Gary, I run LP7 on a dual 1.25GHz G4 with 1 GB of RAM and have not had
a crash. I can't imagine you'd have any probs.

Hi Anders,
I dug out my old manual and here's the straight dope:
To Recall All presets:
1. Press the Store button
2. Press the Up Page button
This will give you the page to recall a single preset to any location
3. Press the Up Page button again and you will get the
"Recall all 90 Alesis programs" page
4. Hit Store again to execute the command.

Hi,
I´m using Roxio Jam 6.02 and Peak 4 (G4+) version 4.1 on a Powermac G5
2x2Ghz.
In Jams preferences I selected Peak as the external Audio editor. Now
when I want to open a track from Jam with the "Disk - open with
peak"
command there comes a message that the file can not be processed when
peak has the access to the file. I am asked if I want to close Jam
therefor.
I also work on a Studio, where we also have those two programs and also
a Powermac G5 2x2Ghz (the model before mine) The the file opens normaly
in Peak without closing Jam.
Does anyone knows this problem and have a solution for me?

Hi,
first what I have made:
- Recording an audiofile (SDII 44,1 khz) in Logic Pro 7
- making several regions of the file
- renaming the regions (# title)
- going to the Audio Window, selecting the regions and the export SDII
regions
- opening the file in Roxio Jam 6.02
what I was expecting:
- Jam give me a selector box with the numbered and titled regions. I
select them, import them in Jam and burn my CD
what was happening:
- Jam give me a selector box with the numbered and titled regions BUT
the first two regions have the same name. All regions are there but No
2 - for example 16 have the names of 1 - 15
Do I make some mistakes or which program is buggy; Jam or Logic

Windows has 2 types of files systems, FAT32 and NTFS.
I have to create a dual boot to get GigaSampler to
work with Windows Media Center, so my question is….
Does Logic 5x or GigaSampler 3 require a FAT32 or NTFS
file system?
Why would I want one or the other??
Thanks

Logic 5.x works best with NTFS on all volumes (FAT32 on all volumes works
too but don't mix them or you will get annoying delays when switching into
record).
NTFS is a decent journaling file system which is much less prone to
corruption - it places a small overhead on all operations but is vastly
preferable to FAT32 for handling large volumes and data security.
In case this is all greek - as I understand it, a journalling system like
NTFS records what operation it is about to do to the file system and then
reports back when it has performed the operation. Should the system crash
or be shutdown during a disk write, the file system will know what
operation was half complete and be able to recover without corruption of
the FAT etc. No "scandisk" and "searching for crosslinked
files" on reboot
after a crash or power outage.

This is a fairly tricky one, on the cubase group
someone posed a similar question in regards to there
Carillon system. It seems Carillon likes to use both
Fat32 and NTFS when building there DAW's. FAT32 for
there system(OS)partition and second partition for
back up reasons. Then format there Audio(music)Drives
using NTFS for its security and larger file sizes.

Hmm - strange because it is mostly the OS partition that gets scrambled.

to why they use both format's.

Hi,
I have recently updated to OSX and Logic Pro 7...
I still run OS9 on another drive.. today I tried opening Logic 5.5
in OSX under classic but it said Xkey not found?
Anyone know why?
Key is in the usb port and 5.5 opens fine under OS9's Drive.
BTW: I do regular mobile work using a PB G4 1gz 1gigram &
Pro 7 is such an improvement for work flow, specifically offline
bounce & burn. My rig fits nicely into a computer bag... to think I
used to drag a G4 tower and CRT around...

Logic won´t work in Classic.

Hi again,
If anyone can help me with a few Hard Drive Q's....
Current set up:
PB G4 1g mhz/1 g ram
Internal HD 20g
Running OSX & Logic pro7
Older rig- G400 512ram
Internal Drive (measly) 10 gig
Running OS9.2 and Logic 5.5
2nd Internal Drive 80 gigs 4x20g partitions
1st partition has samples
2nd has Logic & Audio files
3rd partition has itunes library
4th has OSX panther with Logic pro 7 (this was an experiment to
see how OSX & Pro 7 stood up on this old mac...well...it works)
Here's what I think I need...
An external Drive for storage of samples (for EXS24)
I can access from the PB & the G4 (I know I'll update it one day)
I want to just use OS9 on the G4 for Internet... and mainly run
OSX on the 80 gig internal hard Drive.
Now i get a bit confused as to how i should reformat or what the
best way is to configure this set up on the 80gig drive
I read about having 1/3 for the system... OSX, say 25 gigs..
leaving 55 gigs for Logic Files & Audio files?
Would it be better to put samples & the logic files on the same
external? so keeping everthing up to date on the one drive...
What do you do with your Logic & Audio files? Keep them on the
internal drive or have 2 external drives? 1 for files , 1 for samples.
I don't think my PB has big enough internal drive for loads of
Logic and Audio files.... I will add... my work flow doesn't require
much streaming of samples as I mix and bounce to audio as I
work by building up tracks gradualy.
A friend mentioned my G400 Tower might make an interesting
anchor for a tinny.... (a joke for the Ozzies in here)

In my experience, from a non-MAC perspective. Partitioning a hard
drive for audio makes zero sense. It makes no sense because you are
using one physical drive and telling it to be 3 or more places across
the spindle at any one time. Why not have 3 seperate drives for each
task?
If you are using a desktop, I would use one seperate (~20GB) drive
for programs like logic, OSX and such. Then use a different drive (
and possibly a seperate ATA/SCSI controller channel) for Samples and
recording. This seperate drive would be your external firewire/usb2
drive on a laptop.
You can also use the external firewire/usb2 drive for audio samples
and recording on a desktop if needed for extra space and mobility.
You can use as many external drives as you need as long as your system
doesn't skip during audio playback and recording. This is based on
system configuration and hardware specs.
Paritioning a hard drive made sense a whlie ago when drives were
expensive, or you need to dual boot too support 2 OSes.

Seagate Barracuda, the new 7200.8 series. Capacities up to 400GB (I'm
about to purchase the 300GB model for myself, tomorrow in fact). Fast,
quiet, large and uber-reliable as per their reputation. 'Nuff said.

Logic Mac, LA-Mac, Logic OS X, Logic Win, now Logic Cafe... whatever
they are, I prefer staying here and checking the Apple forum once a
week or so. Just MHO.
Best,

P.S. Hey Taz, you're gonna like that new one, lots of OT going on there :-)

By now, most of us know how devastating Sunday's Tsunami in the
Indian
Ocean has been to parts of Southern Asia. As the death toll climbs
to
120,000 lives, we cannot forget the millions who have no homes,
farms,
means to support themselves, access to clean drinking water, and so
on.
Anyone who wants more information, please check your local or
online
news sources.
Writing on behalf of the LUG moderators, our thoughts and prayers go
out to the victims and those suffering. But they need more than our
hearts--they need our cash, as well.
Many of us already have given to aid organizations on our own. Some
of
us may want to give, but are not quite sure how, or to whom. We LUG
moderators wanted to not only give ourselves, but provide our entire
LUG community with the opportunity to give a collective donation to
Tsunami Relief. Thankfully, we already have a bit of our own Web and
finance infrastructure thanks to our group buys. Here's what we have
done:
We have set up a Paypal account for the address:
donations@...
We will collect donations starting now, and continuing through
Friday,
January 7th. At that point, we will donate everything we have
collected to CARE:
http://www.care.org/
CARE has been developing works and projects to fight both the causes
and the symptoms of 3rd world poverty for 60 years. They also boast
that some 92% of all funds donated to them goes directly into aid
projects, as opposed to institutional overhead, fundraising
campaigns,
and so on. This is truly a noble organization, and one with people
in
place to use the money wisely.
We have over 15,000 members in the LUG and 1,200 OT list members; if
everyone gave $1 that would
be a very sizable donation of over $15,000 towards Tsunami Relief!
Of
course, we know that many readers are on "no mail" or have already
given all they can. Please remember, NO gift is too small. Even
those
of us who are struggling in our own lives--a common theme among
musicians!--have more than those whose lives are crushed by this
catastrophe.
If there are any LUGers who have any concerns about how we
co-moderators are handling this contribution drive, please let us
know
(offlist) how we can address those concerns. We moderators are not
making any money off this, and have already collectively contributed
$950 to our LUG Tsunami Relief effort. We are not, however, going to
split up the money raised to different organizations, or change
organizations, etc. Our goal is to keep it simple, and to donate to
one organization with a proven track record of doing good for a lot
of
people--many organizations fit this bill, and CARE is one of them.
Anyway, please contribute if you can. In addition to the donation
email address, Jeremy will have additional Web buttons and a Web page
up at http://www.logic-users.org as soon as possible. We will repost
reminders about the LUG Tsunami Relief effort throughout the week.
The
LUG community, at its heart, is based around helping each other; in
times like this, I think we need to expand that definition to help
those who need it most.
Thank you,
LUG Admin Team
