Hi Per,
uninstall ALL the M-Audio software and drivers...then wait until M-Audio
gets current
drivers up on their website.
On the new Mac OS it is better to get rid of ALL the items from an
installation,to be
sure it won't harm your OS,and then reboot.Kind of like Unix,or
Winblows.(Remember
the new Mac os x and later is really a UNIX based software,NOT at all like
the old 9.2.2
or older Mac OSs.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Nick. I actually fixed the Safari hang-up with the Apple Support on
the phone line (90 days free support). But Apple Support could not tell me
how to get rid of all M-Audio driver items from the installation. Although I
was amazed about that, my system is now working fine again.

Hi group,
tried to install my PCI cards on my new G5 2x2Ghz. No luck. None of the
card is recognised (UAD-1, Powercore Firewirde, RME HDSP PCI). I tried
different slots and different combination of card (only one, in different
slots). Any ideas :-(
Finally an entertaining 'bug'
Please save first!
Do the following:
Open the EVP88
click on the close thingy that animates the piano closing and
immediately after click the close button of the plug-in window.
hihi.
Cheers

Yes ! you are in a deep s...
There was a lot of threads concerning this problem !
We even send petition to Motu !
If a PCI card does not work in a G5 that means it is using 5 Volts
signalling !
PCI X 1.0 supports only 3.3 Volt signalling ! (Actual G5)
PCI X 2.0 will supports only 1.5 Volt signalling ! ( G6 ?)
Thanks in advance.

Yes I know. The problems is, my cards should work as far as I know (at
least the manufactures say so) they are 3.3 V (Powercore PCI, RME
Hammerfall HDSP PCI Interface ).

Hi Paul,
My new dual G5 is very quiet. Much quieter than my recent studio machine, a
2 GHz Pentium 4, but not as quiet as my friends 17" Powerbook. I've
been
finishing five projects on the G5 so far and was never disturbed by the fan
noise. Vocals are recorded here in the same room, although I'm compressing
and using an expander, before AD converting, to carefully fade out
background noise between the notes.

Woh... that's quite the question... I honestly wouldn't know where
to start -- it's been so long since I first started programming, that
the resources I used then would be totally useless nowadays.
One things to be aware of is that no matter which environment you
pick, be it hardcore assembler or some cute & friendly drag & drop
&
add-code environment, learning to write a proper non-trivial program
is going to take *very much time*. Not something you do on a late
Sunday evening. Please do not underestimate the effort involved in
coming to grips with basic concepts such as event-flow,
control-loops, input/output handling, etcetera.
That being said, I think that nowadays I would recommend a
programming environment such as RealBasic. I honestly think it
doesn't get any easier than this. You create a new window, and drag
& drop a button and a textfield into it. Double-click the button,
and a window opens in which you can enter code for the event
"button_clicked". So you can start typing something like
MainWindow.close
MsgBox MyTextField.text
I.e. when the button is clicked, the window called MainWindow will be
closed. Next a message-box will be shown displaying the text that
was entered in the text-field which you'd called MyTextField.
Compile the program, and you have your first mac-programm running --
including an automatic menu with Quit option (always handy :), and an
Edit menu with functioning cut/copy/paste commands, so that you can
paste text from the clipboard into the text field for example.
This is of course an example whose simplicity doesn't do justice to
the complexity of programming in general, but at least you'll get an
idea of the methodology of writing a program in RealBasic. No
worries about linking files and libraries and including headers and
stuff (all of which you'll run into when programming in C/C++).
RealBasic gives lots of functionality "for free".
The drawback is that since it's a relatively "high level"
environment, you're screwed if the environment hasn't implemented
something you want to do. Example: RealBasic for OSX has no means of
using the CoreMIDI routines, which simply means you can't do any
midi-stuff at all (which sucks indeed). It is possible to extend
RealBasic's functionality with 3rd party plug-ins (written in C/C++),
but no CoreMIDI plug-in has been written yet... (the same lack of
midi-support holds for OS9, but at least there's a 3rd party OS9
plug-in that lets you use OMS).
I know this doesn't answer your literal question, but... well, at
least it might give you some ideas about which directions you might
want to explore further. BTW, the RealBasic website is at
http://www.realsoftware.com/.

I'm thinking of buying a Lexicon MPX1. I want a quality reverb and a delay
which definately has a low and highs eq on the feedback loop so I can get
those echoes that have less highs and less bass on every repeat. This is a
classic effect used alot in reggae. My first question is:
I've checked the MPX500 details on the net and it seems that the delay only
has a low pass filter on the feedback loop. So from the limited info I found
it seems that the MPX500 may not be able to achieve this effect.
Can the MPX1 do this effect? I read something about being able to insert
effect blocks in the feedback loop. What different effects are available for
inserting in the feedback loop?
Also which has the better reverb quality the MPX500 or the MPX1? Ok I'm
pretty sure it's the more expensive MPX1.
How do the reverbs compare to the higher priced Lexicon reverb units.
Thanks for any help.
PS, I own a UAD-1 card which has is my only quality reverb 'realverb' plug
in. If you have compared the UAD-1s reverb to the MPX1 I'd be keen to hear
your comments.
There have been a few questions from LUG members today as to what has
happened to the www.osxaudio.com website. There is a mail from Urs
Heckmann on the www.logicusers.de website saying that "the site owner
has a problem with his provider, but the site should be up and
running tomorrow, after which he needs to switch providers".
FWIW, this is a rough translation from German. Lets see if it is true
tomorrow .....

I want to get some clean samples of this machine or the oberheim dmx as
well. I actually already have some samples of these machines from a cdrom
full of drum machines samples 'dance mega drums 01' or '116 electric drum
machines'.
But to get a similar sound on the hihats as what I frequently hear on record
requires a ridiculous amount of eqing.
My bet is that the samples I have are very poor in the high frequency area
IOW very dull sounding. Hopefully someone can help. I would post this on the
higher populated Logic list but it is definately OT.
Peace.
Thanks.
56/28 = 2, so a factor of 2. If at all possible you should try to
get a broadband connection. I just switched from 56k modem to cable.
I pay 30 euro per month for unlimited high-speed access (8-10 times
the speed of the 56k modem), and my phone-bill is 50 euro per month
lower, so I actually save 20 euro per month. Now, if that isn't "the
best of both worlds", I don't know what is :-D.

I already realise the math. I was hoping for a reply in the tone of real
world experience as it is sometimes different to the math. Is this right.
Cheers.
roman pirie wrote:

Yup, I have one of these fine ol' beasties - allegedly used by
George Clinton & Prince. Years ago, it cost me £400 via mail order
when my local shop was offering end of line 303 and 808 bundles for
about £90. Muggins here thought it more clever to go digital. Life's
been like that.
A few of the same EPROMS were also in the Linn drum, I believe.
The bd's and snares are plenty flubby and the grungy 8 bit sizzle on
the cymbals do have some charm (though I came to loathe them with a
vengeance) and the clap is infamous - spookily, just as I got your
mail, the bastard thing came plopping out of this 'ere
Sasha/Airdrawndagger CD.
If you give me a bit of time, I'll dig it out from the six-months old
undone laundry it's festering under and, if it still works, I'll shove
it into SoundForge and try and get a full EXS24 soundset of it for you.
I'm sure, however, I've seen it on one of the freebie EXS download sites.
Whether those samples will be any cleaner than what I'll be able
to muster with my rusty old AW2, is debatable though...
Did I tell you about the time I blew £250 on the next big thing for
budget mastering? - a DCC recorder [you don't want to know].

Hi Joe,
Your voice will probably sound like "your voice pitch corrected by
autotune"
;-) Might be "better" or not - hard to tell...
But you know you can adjust pitch directly in Logic too. Open up the sound
file by double clicking the region in the arrange window. Select the part of
the sound file where you want to change the pitch and write in the new
value. Can be trick though if your voice pitch is wailing up and down all
the time.

With modems and broadband the math pretty much works as you'd expect.
Twice the speed is twice the speed. So it's not the same as with
computers, where a double clock speed doesn't necessarily mean double
perceived speed.

Hi Roman - in Auckland you'll be struggling to connect at 56k reliably
and hold the connection. Most of the time you'll find that about 44k
is the reliable limit, with occasional faster connects. Real-world?
Expect it to be maybe 50-70% faster on average. You won't notice a
huge difference.
If you're looking at a hardware purchase anyway, and if your budget
can stretch a little, I _really_ advise looking into the Jetstream
ADSL home option. From that, you can expect maybe 5x the download
speed of a 56k modem. It's always connected (no dialling), and you
don't tie up the phone line.
Alternately, the Woosh! wireless service is an interesting recent
arrival on the scene, at similar cost and speed to the Jetstream home
service.
