It's great. I use it with ADAT I/O option connected to an ADAT-bridge.
Very happy with this setup instead of plugins.
Great reverbs and lots of other FX.

How much does the extra ramslots cost on a G5, 1024 ramblocks are very
expensive so I want to use 512 instead. Obviously the price of these slots
are important, I gather from the ad that only 2 are included but
there´s roomfor 8.

YES!!! I don't miss WinXP for a second after this great tip! Now I only have
to get the OSX Mac to see the Windows LAN to be a Happy Switcher ;-) I
really thought OSX should be easy to hook up but it isn't. It's a drag
having to run with burned DVD's and CD's between the machines.

Per - here is a thought.
For very little money, I installed a Firewire card on my PC.
Hook up your spare firewire drive to the PC and format ISO as usual
with Fdisk or whatever XP uses..
voila - PC sees the drive and so does your Mac. Since I did this no
more burning no more waiting for the LAN to copy things over no more
logging in or troubleshooting. Its very fast and convenient. I never
thought "sneaker net" would make a comeback - but it is getting
good
use in my studio.

I can HIGHLY recommend Drag Thing. It lets you set up tabbed palettes
that contain your favorite applications/folders/files organized as you
want. I have three such bars at the bottom of my screen which show only
their tabs and slide up when the cursor is over them. One is for apps,
broken down into Video, Graphics, 3D, Audio, Internet, Text, etc. One
is for dynamically-mounted disks (CDs, network), and one is for my
usual partitions.
The Dock is reserved for running applications and a couple of key
program icons (such as Drag Thing). It makes life much simpler.
Although I'm increasingly doing mixing inside of Logic, I still use an old
Mackie 1604 quite heavily.
I frequently get crackles and dropouts when using the Bus Inserts (which
are basically, stereo jacks).
I'm guessing that the contacts need a good clean - the cables have been
replaced several times, they're never moved about, yet the problem always
returns. Another giveaway - turning up the gain tends to stop the dropouts
(which would suggest to me poor conduction).
So - can anybody suggest a good way of cleaning these contacts, or do I
need to get the unit serviced?
A friend once told me of a jack shaped object (mildly abrasive) that you
inserted into the socket to clean the contacts. I've not been able to find
such a thing, but would apprecioate any input from soemone who can
recommend a way of improving/cleaning the contacts in my setup in any way.
Any advice much appreciated

It is very easy to get things networked between these OS's. It was more
difficult with OS9 but OSX and giganet is the go!!

Okay, a few weeks have passed, did anyone get something they like or don't
like? I think I'm gonna go for the new Edirol PCR-30, which seems more
easily adaptable for Logic and Roland sound modules with the overlay
templates they supply and you can download. I got a great price online of
$152 + shipping, so it seems like a much better value than the Oxygen 8 and
I don't need the audio i/o, or I'd go for the PCR-30A... Anyone have any
more/new experience or thoughts on these devices? :)

It is indeed very easy to get osx networked to a pc (i'm running
win2k but xp is no different in this regard). You just need to make
sure that it (OSX) is running TCP/IP (from the networking doodad) and
Bobs your near relative (i presume peer to peer is what you use, if
you need help with client-server just ask). Click on 'home' in an osx
window and you will see a network icon dble click and it should show
you all computers within your workgroup (and give you an option for
those not). It is advisable to create a seperate user for network
access of your Mac, but, even if you don't you can create mapped
drives on your PC to any point on your mac! (I tend to use the public
folder as it is available whoever is logged on. Any difficulties just
give me a mail and I'll step you through it!

Ooops sorry a few errors (at my PC not my mac!) firstly you need to
turn on Windows file sharing (systempreferences file sharing doodad
icon) and secondly to get to the network click on 'computer' in a
window..
mike
AND (sorry about this) make sure that the user account you want to
log on using has the 'allow windows logon, checkbox checked (maybe
this isn't so easy after all...well its a hell of a lot easier than
using appletalk...)
Hi all, been in the "scoring to picture" game for around 8 years

I wondered if those of you who also fall into this category would be

Please e-mail me directly: clive@...

Hi, I'm thinking about putting my G4 MP 800-Machine in another room than my
studio, to quieten it (!!!). I got a little storage room next to my
studio-room in my appartement, and was wondering whether it would work or
not: it is directly under the roof and not strongly isolated, (cooler than
average room temperature, in autumn and winter at least).
Cooler seems to be ok for a Machine that needs cooling, but I was wondering
if the seemingly dry but cold environment could damage the Computer in any
way, condensing warm air out of the Computers cooling system etc....
I would only have to get two holes in the wall, and slightly lengthen some
cables...
Any ideas/tips etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Condensation happens when warm damp air hits a cold thing. Since you
are talking about the opposite situation I don't think there should
be a problem. In fact I bet as you said your computer will be ultra
stable because the running temp should go down making it happy perky.

I would think that it would be easier to build a foam-covered box around it.
There are also some web pages I've seen for making your PCs quieter (you
have to do a search for them, as this was awhile ago).
Then you don't have to worry about hacking up the structure or worry about
condensation, etc.

That is not easy and it does not work very good. I have build
isolation boxes and I have drilled holes in walls, the hole in walls
work better and are easier.

How about using CD drive ? External ? or always working to another room ?

Firewire CD writer. I also use a cinema display so I have a power
switch within reach.
Is it right that the G4 mirror drive doors do not have a reset button
and that in case of freezes the only thing to do is pull the plug???
Thanks for any info.

I don't know, but if there is no reset button, I imagine the 'old'
hold the power button down for > 5 seconds shutdown should still
work. AFAIK no Mac ever required pulling the plug unless:
a. The user didn't know of this 'feature' or
b. This 'feature' no longer works or is not supported on some models, or
c. It didn't have a power button. (And I think they *all* do).

Hi guys,
Today I tried to get a M-audio Audiophile USB to work with my 2x2 G5 in OS
10.2.8 but none of the three drivers provided by M-audio did work. I guess
this
is a "G5 issue". Any comments?
(I've ordered Panther but am still waiting)
The worst thing though is that Safari got got hurt by the bad drivers, so
now
when I open Safari it closes down with an error message informing me that it
has closed down (how intelligent!) I can still use MS Explorer to surf the
web
but I liked Safari and want to get it into shape again. How?
On my old Mac (OS 7.6.1) I simply trashed the preferances in the system
folder to fix an issue like this, but what can I do in Jaguar?
All the best

Thanks Spectro, I new that, but it just shuts down the computer and
then you have to restart, it is not a reset as in "the good old
days". But you are right of course, it beats "literally pulling
the
plug". I actually meant this in a general
"complete-shut-down-and-start-up" sense. By the way, sometimes you
really have to pull the plug because even the shutdown procedure does
not work, but I am sure you knew that.

Hi all,
Does anyone have such a computer with 1 internal harddisk, with only
OS9.2.2 installed on it, and which works normally. In particular, I
am unable with this setup to startup the computer from a CD or from
an external disk and see the internal harddisk on the desktop. It
just never shows. So I am unable to do things to the internal
harddisk which require it not being the startup disk because it will
only show on the desktop if it is the startup disk. Weird.
Cheers, Bob.

I would like to use some other MIDI Instruments besides the ones that came
with
Logic Platinum. I was wondering if there are websites where you can download
free
midi instruments? What are the best quality MIDI instruments to use and
where can
the be found or bought? I'm a little confused on this subject, so any
clarification
would be great.
