i am using logic 5.5 on mac os x, and using it to tranmit midi messages to a
synth i built in max msp, the synth interprets a list of two numbers, pitch,
and
duration, is there a way to make logic transmit the length of the note being
played rather than just signifying the end of the note when the velocity
hits 0?
any suggestions would be much appreciated, my email is
brillo5@...
thank you very much

Your best bet may be be running Soundforge in Virtual PC on the Mac. I got
it working, but have not tested it thoroughly as yet.

Count yourself as one of the lucky ones then...
I've been using a Mac for around 9 years and have experienced many of
those same (albeit somewhat exaggerated) scenarios.

Me too. Of course the funny part is that he acts as if it is somehow
better in the Windows world which I know for a fact it isn't it also
seems to have escaped his attention that you can get any file back on
a Mac too but still I found it pretty amusing.
Hey I'm looking for a plug-in that can simulate Wow and Flutter (not a
delay). Ala. instant Mellotron from any sample. I don't think using
LFO's would be enough for me, unless someone can prove me wrong by
maybe sending an EXS mkII patch example, or explaining how it could be
done. I also have Reaktor, which seems like a way to do it.
AU or VST would be preffered. Willing to looking into other
possibilities. ie. DXI, hardware...
Thanks A Lot,
Erland

Hi Erland.
I think what you need would be a Waves plugin called "Mondomod". I
believe
it cames with the Native Gold Bundle or something like that, as I saw it
only once in a classroom. I remember that among other things, it simulated
that kind of artifacts: offcenter vinyls, etc...
Good Luck

anyone suggest certain hard drive drivers to be used with a TiBook 500MHZ
machine? (for dropping in a new (and faster) hard drive?) any place to find
online where it shows how to swap them out and how to give them the best
situation/operating status to give you the best audio performance?
many thanks,

Hi Santi,
I've had the Gold Bundle since late December. I don't think I've ever
even opened up an instance of Mondomod for some reason. I thought it
was another flanger. I can't believe that! Thanks a lot. I'm looking
forward to using it.

Hello!
I know you're sorted out now with the Waves plug-in, but I've had a
lot of success in the past degrading sounds by using the Logic Tape
Delay plug in. In the extended menu there are sliders to control
amount of flutter and speed thereof, and you could set the delay to
one beat, 100% wet and no feedback, add in the required flutter
(designed to simulate Copicat type tape echo machines) and voila! Of
course the downside would be that everything would be one beat late,
but it wouldn't be much work to advance the track by one beat to
compensate.
Or have I got completely the wrong end of the stick?
Best wishes
Ron

Is anyone using PT6.0/le? I am wondering if its worth the $75 upgrade. I
used
to use it more, but I find I am doing most things in logic now.
I hope you find the solution with that mondomod. Anyway, I'd like to know
truly if it does what you said, just curious.

Hi there,
I just went through this two days ago.
First off, the best way to make this transfer is to take your old drive
out and put the new drive in. Then format the new drive on the
computer booting from the first of the two OS X install CD's. When it
comes up with the installer dialog, choose "Drive Setup"?? from
the
install menu. Actually I can't remember if it is "Setup" but you
can't
miss it. It's the only option that says "Drive". Use the format
feature to reformat the new drive.
Now, put your old drive in an external case (you can get a firewire
case from OWC or DevDepot for about $50). Shut down and re-boot the
computer holding down the option key. Choose the old OS X on the
external drive as the boot system and continue the boot process. When
you are up and running transfer all the old drive files to the new one.
You should be able to just drag and drop, although I seem to have
better success using Retrospect and the Duplicate drive feature.
Anyhow, shut down, and reboot normally with the external drive
disconnected and you should boot up on your new drive.
The external case seems like a real pain in the butt but it is the best
way to go, and the only way I could get it all to work, and you end up
with your old drive in an external case as a spare firewire drive
instead of just throwing it away.
Below is a link to a PDF on the Apple site explaining how to do the
physical change.
http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/index.html
Just choose your machine, and then choose hard drive replacement in the
language of your choice and off you go.
Good luck,
GH

If you are going to spend $50 for the external case for a 27G drive, why not
spend a little more and just get an external Firewire drive? That is what BT
was saying he does ... I think he has one FW drive for each song as a
backup.
I meant ... back up your old drive to the external, swap the internals and
format as suggested, then restore from the external to the new internal
Hey,
I was a little disappointed with the Mondomod. It sounds too clean to
simulate tape. I tried adding distortions/overdrives after it,
Logic's Overdrive plug-in and PSP Vintage Warmer. It still sounded too
digital and sterile. I'm still gonna check out the tape delay. I've
used the flutter parameter only with feedback.

Is there a plug that does a granular synthesis? The only one i have is built
into Metasynth (which is not VST).
there's one that comes with pluggo, check out cycling74.com

Hello to all LUG members!!!
Just wonder, can anybody tell me about ART DPS mic preamp? I gonna buy it
in a nearest future and I wanna know some more about this device.
Cheers.... Alexander

Ah, see I thought so too, but that didn't work. I'm not sure exactly
why, but until I did the swap the way I described, I couldn't get a
good restore. I'm no newbie to dealing with mac's either. It had
something to do with transferring the OS X system, but i have also
heard from many others that had the same trouble.
Good luck,
GH

Well I did precisely that when upgrading my "bronze key" 333
powerbooks'
drive. However, did you try that backup utility by intego I suggested
before?
I don't know becuase I haven't used it, but I read in a magazine that it
will
make bootable disks... evidently there is a shit load of helper files,
possiblely invisible - for OSX.
Hey,
I was wondering if you someone could tell me what a "cost-deal"
is. A
music instrument company approached me and offered me a cost-deal and
endorsement possibility.
Pardon me if it's something really obvious like a rebate. English
isn't my first language.
Thanks,
Erland

Not 100% sure but maybe they mean they will sell you their product
for "cost" in other words the same price their distributor pays
them
for the product. You could just ask them what they mean though. It
is a reasonable question. Just say what you said here.
They must think you are hot stuff Erland . If you are buying from them they
will sell you their gear at Cost price [price to the shops] as opposed to
retail price [price to the shops customers otherwise known as punters] .
Endorsment usually means that you will allow your image to be associated
with their product in return for giving you whatever instruments they may
produce .
Good Luck.
