Does anybody know of a CD cover creator program where you can use
documentsmade in "Word" instead of using their own, more or less,
tedious interface. I know there´s a template in Publisher but
that´s only the front cover, I need the back as well.
I had very bad experiences with Cover creator, (the one from Ilford),
the best resukts you will have is to make your own templates in software
like Freehand

I have done this on a number of occasions. I copied from a harddrive
however, but you could do that as well. Just copy your S 5000 cd to a folder
on your HD and that should be it. S 5000 files are windows compatible so you
should have no problem with the computer recognizing it and so. I
don´t
understand why it doesn´t work through you cd drive though, it should
just
like Emu, S 3000 and everything else. I don´t have any
S5000 CDroms so I can´t try it out, sorry but good luck.

What in the world is OT about this?
just a question - have the rules changed on OT posts? Why should I have to
reply to Roman personally? I thought the point of having lists was that we
had a community that could converse with one another, share thoughts etc.
The reason for the existence of a separate OT list is that people who want
to remain very strictly on topic can filter the slightly more whimsical
stuff out. Even that seemed somewhat unnecessary to me - it used to be the
case that subject headings and using filters was sufficient to manage one's
reception of the list. Isn't this new "rule" going much too far?
I notice too that certain administrators seem slightly more 'enthusiastic'
on points like this than others. It might be good to have them identify
themselves when they intervene. Not that we're always aware of the
interventions it seems. :(
Our shiny new world is a neater but altogether duller place.
thanks,
pk

I want a cheapish, decent sounding little box for my mic booth. I saw a
furman box that looked perfect. It was described as passive so I assume that
means no additional power amplification. What would I send from on my mackie
1604vlz to this. An aux out maybe.
I also need to set up a talkback mic on this little mixer to speak to the
mic booth.
Hi Roman,
Try the Behringer Powerplay. I hate Behringer gear, but this little box
is pretty good. It does more than you need, but it's cheap, loud and it
sounds good. Should be about 220 dollars NZ.
Cheers,
Recky

I'm after something small that can clamp onto the mic stand. The powerplay
is 1 IU I think.

If I remember correctly Rolls makes a really small headphone amp that
should do as you ask. Check them out. I have a Fostex phone amp that works
fine. It's a half rack though. The rolls looks like it will fit in your
hand. http://www.rolls.com/new/frame2.html
Hope this helps!!

I gather Maurice Gibb had more than a little to do with the musical
arrangements. I think their 70's tunes had good arrangements. The horn
parts etc stand up pretty well still twenty five years later. That could
have been more to do with the producers I guess.

I use VXA drives and tapes too. Exabyte bought the original maker, Ecrix. I
think this is a good option as far as storage capacity per tape (33 gig/66
gig compressed) and cost.
Good choice.

hello!
could You recommend me an audio interface or audio card for working with
Logic Audio? now i've got PC, but i'm going to buy Mac this year - so it
should work with both of them. it should have balanced inputs (4 or more)
and balanced outputs (4 or more, too), 24 bit/ 96 kHz (or more), and it
would benice to have MIDI and ADAT. now i've got Wave Center PCI (and Yamaha
03D,which i'd like to sell), and when i configure Logic for more outputs
than 2 (stereo), computer shows me the window: "ASIO: System Overload.
The audioengine was not able to process all required date in
time./-10011/" after every operation. i have acual drivers (for XP, but
i have had the same problems in Win Me and 98), and all buffers (latency
too) configured for "maximum". i have had the same problem with
Wave Center in other computers with different versions of Logic, and i have
heard the same story about Terratec.
i'm going to buy new hardware and work with Logic Audio (it's the best!), so
i ask you, what i have to buy.
thanks.
maybe emagic is going to make something like this?

RME Hammerfall DSP series is excellent. The PCI card version and the
Cardbus version both work with Multiface which has:
8 in/8 out Analog
Midi in /out
Adat in/out
Spdif in/out
Wordclock
etc
There are other versions (Digiface, new HDSP model) if you want more analog
via ADAT.
This setup runs at low latency with VSTi's and Logic's audioinstruments and
is absolutely rocksolid on PC. Reports for the Mac are generally very good
from what I read but I have yet to use mine with a Mac. The company has an
excellent forum for info on hardware issues etc and the chief developer
answers questions there promptly. This is what I would buy again if I lost
mine.

Delta 1010 is cheaper and is also good but not as efficient with CPU.
It has:
8 in/8 out Analog
Midi in /out
Spdif in/out
Wordclock
Does not have ADAT I/O but you can get an extra box from M-Audio which
allows ADAT connection to the Delta1010.

Others report good results with MOTU products on the Mac but no so great
with PC.
Hope that gets you started,

Can I put in a word here for one of the most useful, if humble shareware
apps for MacOS on the planet - DiskTracker. I burn CD-ROM backups regularly
and always have DiskTracker open too. As soon as the volume is finished, it
goes into the CD-ROM drive for scanning and is immediately added to a
searchable database. It will scan any form of mounted drive. Really useful
if a client comes back wanting more work on something from 6 months ago, or
if I decide to revive some older material.
i back the database up to a separate drive regularly, along with my Logic,
SD and Peak preferences.
http://www.disktracker.com
BTW, I've just had someone round today with some files for a remix for a
forthcoming album. 2 CDRs worth - took up 850 mb of my audio drive. I've
just had a wee session with Peak, doing stereo-to-mono conversions and
cutting out dead space by saving separate files for verse and chorus vocals,
ditto various guitar tracks. Discarded the drums and bassline - now down to
67 mb!

thanks a lot. i have heard some good opinions about rme, but i didnt know,
how it works with logic audio (i have heard it's optimized for cubase). i
think i'll buy this one, but... have you ever heard about Lynx Two? i've
just read a comparison of rme and lynx: rme's dynamic range is 108, and
lynx' dynamic range is 116 dB. The prices are similar, and lynx two can work
(A/D/A) with 24 bit/192 KHz!!! it's unbeliveable, because it's A/D/A
coverters are inside of the the computer, on PCI card, not in external audio
interface! it looks non-professional, but it works!!! but i dont know, how
it works with logic (i dont know lynx' ASIO drivers...)...
does anybody know?
thanks once again.

Some people who know what they are talking about say that RME Hammerfall
series works even better in Cubase.
I have read about the Lynx stuff before (on their site) and the audio
specs look very impressive. There are higher end RME audio interfaces (ADI
series all the way up to DS) which match the S/N of the Lynx. I have not
seen any reports of how they work with the ASIO driver in Logic/Cubase and
with standalone Virtual instruments many of which use ASIO.
Lots of companies make audio hardware but only some companies make stuff
that works without clicks and pops in systems with heavily laden CPU and
lots of PCI bus traffic. The other thing to bear in mind is that you want
your company to still be there writing solid drivers for future OS updates
some years down the track.
As a consumer it can be hard to judge -- look at Korg's Oasys card - a big
company, lots of users love the Oasys but there are no Win2000 or XP
drivers -- nor will there be. Several audio interface building companies
went belly up over the last few years leaving the ones that worked properly
still standing.

M

I produce dance music and have a pair of BM15's powered by a Quad 405MkII
amp. I think they are awesome for the job and have the most accurate, hard
hitting sound. Bass extension is important and these have got it. The BM15
A's I am sure will sound even better as their amps are matched. The
Genelec's are great monitors, but may not be up to dance music requirements
if they are considerably smaller than the BM15's. I think I have heard a
pair at a friends project studio in Brazil. They were quite small, appearing
to have a flat responce but not enough bass extension, for my needs at
least. Maybe that helps?
Hector.
I contacted adaptec but I am not eligible for complimentary support. I think
it will be on their site but I couldn't find it.

Strange that they wouldn't even tell you where to get drivers.
Well this URL *should* take you to the driver page: (note that
many Adaptec MAC SCSI cards have the 'PowerDomain' prefix)

hi mike,
on the waves installer CD you have the installation for PC AND Mac.
You will only need a new Challange from waves but
with the help of your dealer this should be no problem.
