Perhaps people realise when they have reached the limit of >their technical competence. 50 million followers of Manson-like Steve Jobs spread all over the world? Hmm quite a large cult don't you think. Trying to imagine your comments are serious for a moment, I think the situation is like BMW drivers loving their cars - a concept that the KIA, Isuzu, and Daewood drivers think is silly. "Why pay $80,000 for a car? I can buy a new Daewoo for $13,999." Isn't that your thinking Murray? >BTW, the G4 is probably the worst computer built More generally .... Why don't we follow Splattercells (slightly crusty) advice and not engage in these childish discussions. If people are interested in having a genuine discussion with an open mind, then fine, we can all learn. But if are just bitter because of Emagic's new policy, and have plenty of misperceptions about Macs, please don't just insult and attack for sport. I use PCs at work all the time, and still consider them to be 2nd rate in ease of use, or maybe 3rd rate - although I have to admit they seem to work a little snappier. I'm also unhappy about a number of things Apple does. I'm not happy with OS X, and the expense of buying new software for it, and having some of my old stuff not work anymore. If there were a better alternative to Macs, I would consider it. A Billy Box (Windows) is not the answer for me - and falling victim to the worst industrial monopolist of our time is not a welcoming thought either.

>But ... guess what graphics hardware Apple decided to build into the >G4 range? ><grin> >Yep, it's ATI again! Apple uses the ATI card only for the lowest end G4. All the rest use NVIDIA GeForce4 MX (I think for about two years now?). ATI is still making boards for Mac (and PC), and recently introduced the 8500 high end graphics board.I hope that doesn't wipe the >grin< off your face. Now, I'll be the first to be suspicious of company created propoganda, but Apple claims this on their website : Awesome Power We’ve taken the fastest PowerPC G4 processor ever created — and then doubled it — to introduce the phenomenal new dual 1-GHz PowerMac G4. Add Velocity Engine vector processing technology, an ultraefficient system architecture, and it’s no wonder that it outperforms even the fastest Pentium-based systems. If you download thier detailed spec sheet (via PDF file), they claim that the Dual 1 Gig Powermac G4 ("the worst computer ever made" according to some here)... is 72% faster than a Dell Dimension 8200 running a 2 GHz Pentium 4. Even the lowly 800 Mhz G4 Powermac is 26% faster than the 2 Gig Dell. Of course Photoshop is not time sensitive as audio is, but I have had Photoshop load my system much more than audio - its a non-trivial comparison. They further claim that Dual G4 is 300% faster than a Sony VAIO 590G running a 2 GIG Pentium 4 (and the 733MHz G4 is 84% faster) at DVD video encoding. However, I think this is partly a gimmick, since Apple has worked hard to make DVD conversion very efficient. Are they guilty of misleading advertising? There are laws against that. Do you PC-lovers think is total nonsense? If so, inform the Justice department of the United States so they can clamp down on these falsehoods.

>> Apple might still have the option of >>changing their mind about dropping Windows support (although each day >>that passes makes this more difficult). Has somone mentioned the Shake software yet? This is high end video software used in movies - Apple did the same thing - bought the company and killed the windows support. Apple is playing hardball and evidently has a plan to restore the Mac to the professional's choice for music and video. A few bitter Window's users moving to Steinberg is the least of their concerns. I have a feeling that our friends Murray, Eric, and Adam are not inclined toward giving the mac a fair shot anyway, so what does Apple have to lose. Even now, in Sound on Sound or Future Music (which seem to favor PCs), in response to a queestion about which platform to use, they said that in most pro studios, its Mac. So I think Apple is hoping the word gets around and people start buying more macs - just like they buy U87's, Marshalls, etc - they're the standard.

Hi, And I think we should welcome ladies on new "technologies interests" because there aren't that many involved... Well done Sam Greene You're "SUPER GREENE"... He heee... Usually girls just want to sing or play an instrument...and have no further interests in music technologies... So congratulations Natalia... Nice Continuation in the wonderful world of Electronic music and other music technologies... Now I have to ask, are there a lot of girls interested in this kind of subject on this forum? Natalia, I'll send you the one I made last night when i get home-this should be a fun weekend playing with all this stuff. To make it: make a new enviornment layer new mapped instrument new fader->special->switch a couple delays an arppegiator sp? link them together in that order and then cntrl-click on the output of the arp then you can select an output--I used an audio instrument one cable will go into your switch, and then you can have as many as you like going to different delays, so when you click the switch you will get a different delay. In the mapped instrument, you can specify which keys/notes go to which cables, so your snare can go to one delay(or set of delays) and then your hi hat can go to another. To simplify, you can replace the mapped inst. with a regular one.

Hey Super Greene, I had THE SAME PROBLEM with my Ex-Girlfriend. She never was stopping arguing about this... I think it was more Jealousy because we were spending a lot of time together and we were doing really various things together (Sex, outgoings, walks, disco clubs, speaking...) I wasn't even spending much time with my music... only 7-8 hours a week... Is this much... It only a passion that I have... I don't think I had preference for my music instead spending time with her... I really loved her... And I think also there was no problem about how I was showing her my love... Finally I leaved her... it was really kind of possessive thing... Ciao, Moreno > > And I think we should welcome ladies on new "technologies interests" > > because there aren't that many involved... The Turbo button is Mac OS X. It is only with OS X that the full capacity for multithreading and dual processor support is achieved and apparently it is near 100% improved.
