Actually, while it's hard for me to speak of the LUG of 3 years ago and perhaps that's all Phil is referring to (I've been on about a year), there are lists/newgroups with more maturity and a better standard of discussion. Not jerk-less or without problems, but nonetheless other forums of size that engage in more healthy communication. I do think a lot of it is the large size of this group but I also think there are other, subcultural (LUG-subculture, not national/ethnic/whatever), reasons that this list has a lot of rancor and rudeness.
