For a studio to survive, it has to have low overhead, extremely skilled staff, and things that home/project studios don't; namely, quiet space, multiple recording rooms, a well-tuned control room, and a wide mic and preamp selection. I rarely work outside of my own space, and if I do it's for one or more of these things.
