just a question - have the rules changed on OT posts? Why should I have to
reply to Roman personally? I thought the point of having lists was that we
had a community that could converse with one another, share thoughts etc.
The reason for the existence of a separate OT list is that people who want
to remain very strictly on topic can filter the slightly more whimsical
stuff out. Even that seemed somewhat unnecessary to me - it used to be the
case that subject headings and using filters was sufficient to manage one's
reception of the list. Isn't this new "rule" going much too far?
I notice too that certain administrators seem slightly more 'enthusiastic'
on points like this than others. It might be good to have them identify
themselves when they intervene. Not that we're always aware of the
interventions it seems. :(
Our shiny new world is a neater but altogether duller place.
