Subject: Setting up Velocity crossfading via Mod wheel
Message #16326
Sure this has been covered before, anyone care to chime in? I have just translated some Vienna instruments patches to ESX from Giga format. The mod wheel velocity crossfading didn't make it through translation. I can't really see how to get it up and running, any help? Thanks!!

(This is one advantage Translator www.chickensys.com may bring to the included conversions) -Set up a modulator CC1 as the source, and Sample Select as the destination. Set amount of 100%. -For example a 3 way xfade, set the XFade value to anywheres from 25 to 40. -Set the Sample Select fields in the Groups (you can do this in the Zones too, but there's a lot more to do) to the ranges you desire, in our example you'd set them to 0-42, 43-85, 86-127. The XFade value puts a fade in and fade out IN ADDITION to the Select values. So a XFade value of 40 will fade in/out each intersecting travel the full amount, whereas 20 just smooths it out. IMPORTANT: There are two limitations that EXS24 has regarding doing what Giga does. You can't have a MW Xfade on a velocity switched instrument on the EXS24. This is because the Sample Selects are not available to use for MWXfade because they are being used for the Velocity switching. A Giga instrument can have custom XFade settings per Zone. The EXS has just one XFade offset value for the instrument, but if the Giga values are consistent (which they often are), the EXS24 can do it. Subject: EXSP24 on Logic Express 7-Cannot import my own samples-Please help
Message #16328
I run Logic Express 7 on Mac OSX, I tried to import the Drumz From Hell samples onto the ESXP24 and although it sees the samples on the player's menu I get no sounds out of it. I got no problem when I use Express' own samples with the EXSP. IS this normal which means I have to upgrade my Logic to get the full version of EXS24 mkII if I want to import my own samples and play them through the player? Many thanks in advance!

You didn't say if they're EXS formatted or not, but if they are then you have to see if they are in the app support in the Macintosh HD drive or in the app support in the user folder. If it's in the user one where it should be, then the only suggestions I have is to upgrade to Pro or if you have a ppc mac, get logic express 6.4 from ebay and use the exs instrument editor, as it has the exsp24 sampler, but for some reason it still allows you to create your own instruments from audio file like WAV, AIFF, & REX. I hope this helps

Message #16330
Hello All, I've recently posted a new Bolder FREE Sounds offering - a Medieval Psaltery for the EXS24. This is in conjunction with the release of the Best Of Bolder Early Music Library for the EXS. The Early Music collection features a number of lutes, a renaissance guitar, a fortepiano, a harpsichord and a medieval hurdy gurdy. The Fortepiano comes in Limited and Full Edition versions. One of the plucked instruments is a Theorbo (bass lute), which I am not aware of having been sampled before. "It would be nice (forgive my naivete here) if there was a feature where there was a mapping thing, where you could have a list of 128 .exs files that would respond to Program Changes, according to number. Stored in a Logic Song, where each song would have a different map. " This would be a feature I would definitely use. Especially in a live situation. I usually work solo or in a duo so I need backing vox but have to do with a harmoniser which isn't ideal, they sound so electronic. I use a Fantom X8 and use the song list function to switch between songs on the fly. You never know what song will be needed next, I never use set lists. I would like to use main stage and set up a ESX instrument with the recorded backing vocal tracks assigned to a different ESX Program and the X8 would tell the ESX which patch to load. Currently all the program change does to the ESX is step incrementally up or down, no good to me if the song I need is 30 higher than the one just played. Alternatively It would be nice if logic had a play list function where I could lay down the audio tracks along with the midi sequence and use logic instead of the X8's sequencer. You're probably wondering why I don't just use backing tracks, I can't becuase most the songs change sounds on the keyboards I'm playing on the fly. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can achieve this?

Subject: [EXS] How To Import Instrument With Settings Intact
Message #16334
Hi Fellow EXS Users, I have lots of songs that were created in earlier versions of Logic where I sequenced tracks on external midi instruments which I no longer have. I now use EXS instruments for drums, bass, piano, and strings to start with. They're all set up that way in my Autoload template. When I open an older song in LP8, I import my settings and environment from my autoload song, but none of my EXS instruments remember their settings from the autoload song. I have to reset all my instruments the way I want them. This is especially a headache with the multi output instrument I use for drums. When I start a new song with a new Autoload template, all the instruments are set up the way they were when I last saved the song. But if I open an older song and import settings and environment, none of those instrument settings are recalled. Is there a way to make each of the instruments I've set up in my autoload song recall their settings when they're imported? Thanks in advance, -Mark Bradford http://mark-bradford.com/ ------------------------------------

An EXS24 instrument is made up of two components, the sampler instrument and the associated samples. Without the samples, the instruments will not work. You'll need to copy the samples from your old pc to the new one. -droo ------------------------------------

Hi Phil, There's good news and bad news. The good news is that the Recycle file problem is easily solvable. You need to download the REX library installer from online. I think the newest version is 1.6 - at least that is what is working on my Intel Mac. The bad news is that Logic 7 isn't Intel compatible. The first release that was Intel compatible was 7.2. So, you need at least that version to run properly on a new Macbook. If you don't already have it (it was a paid "crossgrade"), your only choice will be to upgrade to Logic 8. -------- Eli Krantzberg http://www.elikrantzberg.com http://www.nightshiftorchestra.com ------------------------------------

Message #16349
hey there, i've got a particularly cranky project in logic 7 which is running so many sampler instruments and vst programs that it's draining all my cpu and often quitting unexpectedly. I would like to transfer certain regions and channel strip settings from this project to a new project. What's the best way to do this? I've tried opening the old project, then creating a new one, then saving all the things i want to transfer from the old project as channel strip settings, and then dragging the selected regions from the old project to the new one. But this is exceedingly slow, and the computer often takes minutes going from the first project to the second. Again, sometimes when i do this the program will quit unexpectedly and then i lose everything. I'm running logic 7--still kinda scared of the upgrade. Anybody got any ideas? --nick

This will probably be faster than dragging stuff between two open songs. -jason ------------------------------------
