Hi
I've programed a drum part with the EXS using multiple outputs. To control
and treat the kik (reverb dry), hihat (dry-ish) and snare (wetter)
separately, I've routed the kik and snare to separate aux channels.
How do I control the volume of this drum kit as a whole using hyper draw? ie
I want to control all three elements (kik, hi hat & snare) using one
hyper
draw volume curve.
I tried to create a hyper draw curve for the channel that has the EXS
inserted in it, but this only changes the volume of the hi hat, not the
volume of the kik and snare (which are on the aux channels).
Then, in the environment, I tried to link the channel (with the hyper link
on it) to the aux channels, hoping they would change in tandem, but they
don't...
I'd appreciate your help

You can route all your drum-objects (the exs-instrument and the aux
channels to another aux channel. Then you can hyperdraw this. I
normaly route BD, Snare to an aux called BD/SN, the HH and Cymbal
Stuff to another aux called cymbals. Now I route this two aux channels
and the Toms Aux to my DrumsOut Aux. Now you have the possibility to
change the whole Drumset with DrumsOut.

Hi All,
I want to be able to trigger drum hits (wav files) via my midi keyboard but
I do not know how to get them loaded or recognised within the EXS sampler? I
don't want to have to physically drag/drop them onto the track, I want to be
able to 'play' them. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks :)

In short: Forget about it.
Somewhat longer answer: The EXS in Logic Express 7 is just the EXSP version,
P standing for "Player". So it won't allow you to create your own
patches.
Possible solutions:
1) Update to Logic Express 8. That will give you access to the full EXS
version.
2) Update to Logic Studio 8. That will also give you access to Ultrabeat,
which probably is more easy to deal with than the EXS for such tasks.
3) Get a third party drum sampler such as NI's Battery.
Personally, even if I think both the updates to Logic Express or Studio 8
are worth the money, I'd go for option 3) anyways, especially if you plan to
do such things more often. The plugins in Logic aren't exactly tailored for
such things.

You can also use Translator www.chickensys.com or some other programs
to create .exs files from scratch (.wav fiels) or from other formats
such as Kontakt or similar.

Hello All,
At the Bolder Sounds website I've posted a new FREE sound set for the
EXS24 entitled Tibetan Granular Textures. I used a few samples from
the Tibetan Bowls collection as source files for the resultant
granular ones.
The B.O.B. American Folk Music Instruments volume is now in EXS24
format as well. This set includes American instruments from the
plucked family, also featuring the entire mandolin family. The set is
146 mb and sells for $19.95 ($14.96 with our current sale this
month). Audio demos of this collection are available at the Bolder site.
Here is a instrument list of this set - Autoharp - 30 mb ,Banjo - 13
mb, Hammered Dulcimer - 11 mb, Fretless Gut-Strung Banjo - 5 mb,
Louden Steel String Guitar - 15 mb, Mandolin, Mandola and Mandocello
- 19 mb and Marxophone - 53 mb.
The Granular Conch Shell pad set is now available in EXS24 native
format too.
And last - we are having a 25% off summer sale on all products until
August 1st.
Thanks for your time!

Hello All,
I'm working with some South American Flute samples. I've set them up
in the EXS and they sound good (these are using POLY mode).
But I also wanted to create an additional folder of the same
instruments with the MONO button engaged on the front panel of the
EXS 24. So that a user may get a more realistic playing response
being as you can really only play one note at a time on a wind
instrument.
The problem when in MONO mode, there is a unsettling bump or slight
low end click in the sample upon changing notes on the attack. Even
slowing down the VCA envelope attack does not really help much.
Engaging LEGATO mode does not help. Setting up a short glide time
does not sound good either (it sounds too much like a synth) I've
done this kind thing in Kontakt 2 without any glitch at the onset of
the new note occurring at all.
Any suggestions as to how to remedy this in the EXS settings?
Thanks!

Hello,
i am trying to use the Hollowsun_synth, however when i try to load it into
Logic 8. It states
Exs24 instrument "Arp odsy bass2exs":

Maybe Sample Start needs to be adjusted, also you might try the
"legato" setting instead of the "mono" - I've found some
EXS
instruments sound good with one but not the other.

What is "the Hollowsun_synth"?

The easy answer is: EXS24 can't find the file. (In other words, it's
telling the truth.) Find the file yourself.
Normally, when EXS24 can't find a file (that is, it's not where the
.exs says it is), it starts looking for the file name somewhere on
your system. This is determined by the Preferences option "Search for
samples on". You can look on Local Volumes or External Volumes, or both
types.
If the file "Arp Odsy Bass2.wav" exists on yours system, it would
have to be on one of the volume types you didn't select, otherwise
EXS24 would have found it. Or it doesn't.

thanks for replying,
Hollowsun_synth was just a zip file i downloaded, that contained a bunch of
vintage synths instruments.
so can i say that since the wav file was NOT included in the download, that
i am out of luck

Right. Those Hollow Sun instruments used to be offered from Steve for
free, but then he eventually had to make money and pulled the
instruments off because they wound up in the Nostalgia virtual instrument.
The EXS versions are still out there but since the S-5000 originals
were pulled a long time ago, there's no .wav files to accompany them
thus they are dead.

While having to make money might've been one (very valid) point, perhaps
even the main point, it wasn't the only one, though. Another point has been
the fact that very rarely folks even came up with a "thank you,
Steve". They
were just loading the sounds and that was about it. And IMO there's been
some really excellent patches which defenitely deserved more than simply
running away with them. I still use quite some of those patches on a
regularly base.

I seem to recall that many people thanked him on this list and other
lists during that time.
Plus I never saw a response form on the site. If you offer free
sounds, should it not be with strings attached (like a "thank you
card")? Donation-ware is a valid system, but I never saw any requests
for donations.

I am looking to set up the EXS24 in Logic 8 to trigger samples via an
external MIDI drum pad controller. i.e a drummer hitting a drum pad live.
I want the looped drum sample to start when triggered via MIDI drum
pad 1. But also to stop when triggered via a different pad, say pad2.
I would also like to have it set up so the loop restarts itself when
the drummer hits pad 1 if the loop is playing i.e the band is going
out of time with the loop so the drummer hits pad 1 again and this
restarts the loop from the beginning.
Any help is appreciated?
Thx in advance

Hmmm...
I was thinking of doing a Radiohead style pay what you want thing for a 50's
- 60's vintage BBC sound effects library after I put it into EXS instrument
format from vinyl, presuming that licensing and copyright issues can be
dealt with. It's a ton of work but it'd be fun.
Am I crazy or is it a good idea? I'm doing it more out of a sense of
altruism and preservation of the content than anything else but if any one
wanted to give me a few bucks I'd take it.
Any advice would be well appreciated.

Andy, these samples seem to sound pretty good. I'm considering to buy them
when I'm back from holidays.

Well, if they're not your samples you probably won't get the license
to give them away, but that's just a hunch...
Better do do your own work and try the pay-what-you-wish approach
with that.

Is there anyone out there who has a version of the EXS for Logic Platinum
4.8 they'd be interested in selling, or maybe Logic 5 complete with the EXS?
I need a soft synth for a project right now, but can't afford to upgrade my
system (as sweet as that might be..)I'm running Logic on a dual 568 G4 under
OS9. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
