Hi Paul, I used to be a Samplecell user and loved it! You have to remember, it was a different world back then :-) Samplers were limited in RAM and believe it or not, Samplecell's 32 meg capabilities were quite trend setting! LM refers to "limited". Many samples libraries shipped with LM or limited versions of the their instrument mappings as a memory saving convenience. The LM (lm) versions often didn't have as many multi samples or as many velocity layers - and so took up less ram, allowing you to load more instruments at once. The idea was to use them when you were only using the instruments for limited types of parts where you didn't need the entire sample range represented in full glorious ram hogging detail. Enjoy! Some of those old samplecell sounds killed!! Subject: creating new instruments
Message #16238
Hi Im wanting to create new instruments in exs 24 using existing samples from my hard drive and want to edit the samples without changing the original samples . The new instrument i want to add to my existing exs library without creating endless sampler instrument folders which is what happens in edit>instrument>copy audio files .The other way iVe found is after selecting sample into the eygroup to copy the sample in the audio editor and then you have to reload the sample into the zone/keygroup .Im thinking there must be an easy way to save the new instrument with its related / edited sample data ? thanks

I think the simplest thing to do is take the .exs file and associated sample files, and move them to some type of "master folder" outside the Sampler Instruments folder. Then tweak away and save the .exs Instrument. Next time, do the same thing; kind of like a verison 1, version 2 type thing. Garth Hjelte Sampler User ------------------------------------

hey, I'm a new user. I imported a MIDI file of strings and the exs only plays back a 1 second clip of the strings, not the whole 2 bar pad.... any idea what gives? It could be that the sample(s) the EXS is trying to play back is short and not currently looping to play back any longer than that. You could navigate down into the folders on your Mac and see where the sample(s) are. You could then click on it/them and Get Info (Cmd-I) and play the file(s) that way. Then you'd know for sure. If you're needing to lengthen the playback, Logic's Help files on the screen are pretty helpful in regard to looping sounds to get some more length. You might also consider simply downloading some of the free Soundfont files on the web and trying some of those string sounds. Until you're ready to tackle deeper sampling projects, this is a good option. I have a page for some of this stuff at: http://drtw.net/drtimsaudiotips/ TW ------------------------------------

If I interpret you right, you mean a dramatic "swell". This usually consists of more parameters: Volume, Loudness, higher frequencies, harmonic change, modulation, reverb and so on. All of them or just few or only one, depending on the music. :::::::::: Peter Ostry ------------------------------------

Message #16246
Hi. I have recently purchased Logic 6 from ebay and I am running it on OSX 10.3, it is running fine except that EXS24 sampler will only access the factory sounds. I am not to sure whether I need to place the other samples I have added into a certain folder. It appears that previous versions of the EXSP were demo only so I'm wondering if there is anyway to fix this. I have installed Xtreme Analog sounds for EXS24/EXSP24 and as mentioned before I cannot access these sounds.....?? I know this version runs on OSX and OS9, Xtreme Analog installed onto classic but surely sounds are sounds?? There are other EXS24 samples that I would want to use and purchase but I feel I need to fix whatever the problem is at present before I do that.... Any help from anyone would be such a huge help.. Thank you for everyone for being here and making this forum accessible. Cheers. Pete
