Sorry for the confusion lack of experience with the EXS editor
showing.
Each *note* has four zones assigned to it, and each zone is assigned to one
of four groups.

So you got the ModWheel XFade working, but you
had mentioned earlier that your Zones were
already grouped according to velocity, which you
had 4 velocity splits. Did you notice that you
couldn't combine the two - Vel splits and MW
xfade? Or did you just substitute the Vel for Modwheel xfade?
I'm asking just to be sure there wasn't any other way to do this.

Substituted. Velocity is still controlling volume for all four groups, so
controlling timbre with the mod wheel is an acceptable trade-off.
Thanks, again.

OK, just crossing my fingers in case someone figured out some clever
way of bypassing this.

Nope, so far no one's cleverer than you.

I'm trying to switch EXS in Logic Studio (8.1) from poly to legato
using a pedal switch.
The Logic 8 manual does not even list the controllers for any of these
functions, though Logic 7's manual tells me it's CC 71.
But I can't seem to get CC71 (or any other controller) to talk to EXS
in either version of Logic - is there something I'm forgetting about
here?

Hi John ,
I just checked, by hooking up a monitor to the channel strip, and it
seems like the three modes are controlled by fader message 7. A value
of 0 is poly, 1 is mono, and 2 is legato.
Don't forget that these respond to fader messages; so you'll need to
hook up a transformer in the environment to convert the incoming
pedal messages appropriately.
Also, don't forget that with L8's internal architecture, the
instrument plugins are set to respond on MIDI channel 2.
HTH.

Thanks, Eli, lots of great info - I'm away from Logic right now but
will try this and report back.

You know - that's a really good question! I just quickly scanned the
main L8 manual and couldn't find it anywhere.

I made the jump last year. If I understand correctly, all u have to do
is make a copy of your EXS24 Sampler Instruments contents, and place
them into the same folder in L8.
------------------------------------
Hi, Can someone please tell me if I can load different sample libraries
into the Logic Express sampler? I just bought a sample library from
realsamples (the Dulcitone Celesta) and it comes with EXS24 samples, but I
can not get them to load into the player. I have tried putting them into
the application support folder under Application
Support/logic/samplerinstruments and under Application
Support/Logic/channelstrip settings. Please help, thanks.
Hi Christopher,
It sounds like you put them in the right place.
Put the Sampler Instruments in User - Library - Application Support -
Logic - Sampler Instruments.
Just make sure to hit the refresh menu command inside the EXS 24 pull
down instrument menu from within the plug in. Either that or relaunch
Logic. And of course make sure the samples are on your drives somewhere.

I put them in the right place, but they don't seem to find their way in
there. I did take the .exe files out of the folder at one point just to see
if that would do it, but it said there were duplicates and then went to find
the file and couldn't find it. Well, I have emailed the software designer,
so he might be able to help. Is there any difference between the Express
sampler and the Pro sampler features that night inhibit this from happening?
I assume you can load other sound libraries into the EXS 24 in express
right?
thanks
Chris
So this appears to be a bug then, 'cause it never did work.
Hi Christopher,
Sorry for the delay responding - it should work. The only explanation
I can think of is pilot error somehow. You can absolutely bring in
and use third party EXS formatted libraries with any version of the
EXS 24 in any version of Logic. So, I don't know where the error is,
but just to repeat what needs to be done:
* The sampler instruments (should have a .exs at the end of the names
of the files) need to be in the User Library folder. In Applications
-- Logic -- Sampler Instruments.
* The samples need to be somewhere on one of your drives that your
system can see.
That should be it. Make sure the sampler instruments aren't nested
too deeply inside sub folders. Maybe that could potentially be a
problem. Don't forget to "refersh menu" in the Instrument menu
after
placing them where they need to be. Other than that - it should work!

Oops - that should read "Application Support" instead of
"Applications".
