How do I go about about doing it? I am currently running Logic Express
7. Can you really only do it on Pro? I plan on getting Logic Express 8
soon, can you do it on that?
Thanks
------------------------------------
Hello to All,
I'm trying to map my pitchbend wheel to filter cutoff in a simple EXS patch
I created, and in reading the manual I must be missing a step.
I've got filter cutoff as my destination, and using Pitchbend as my source
but I don't see the filter cutoff moving when I move my pitchbend wheel.
Any clues?
Thanks,
Josh

With logic express (at least 7, don't know about 8), you can't create exs24
sample sets. 7 or 8
pro allow you to do this (in fact any version of pro/plat/gold that has
exs24.) LP 8 has quite a
few improvements to the exs24 editor, making it a lot more user friendly. If
all you want pro
for is creating/editing exs24 instruments then it may be worth looking at
'keymap'
(www.redmatica.com) which is a stand alone exs24 editor (and more) it really
kicks the ass of
the built in editor.

Is the filter turned on? And have you set the slider value in the modulation
matrix routing? It has to be in a position other than centered.

I have used Logic Express 8 to create samples and it works great! I
record tracks into LE8, and then import the created WAV or AIF files
into Audacity (free on web) for editing.
I cut them up and then save separate sounds into a folder, then pull
that folder into LE8's hierarchy of folders. Then you simply open
EXS24 and start mapping things out.
Let me know if you need more info. There are some good tutorials on
the web for free.

I agree, these samples are nice. I have had them for years. The guy who made
them used to be active on this list, Michael Post. Seems like he has let
SampleTekk take over, he used to sell them from his own website.

Thanks Sean.

Hi there,
this is not a question concerning the EXS or creating sample
instruments for the EXS!
I know this is a sort of stupid question, but apparently Wavelab can
write the crossfade needed for a smooth loop directly into an
audiofile. Is there a software for the Mac that can do the same?
I am _not_ producing samples for the EXS and I know that the EXS can
crossfade, this is definitely _not_ the question here!!! But since
there are a couple of very knowledgeable sample producers on this
list maybe someone knows of a solution for the Mac.
Thanks and best
Hans

Hans, you may want to check out Loop Editor:
http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/loopeditorplus/index.php
The download is working unlicensed as well (I'm almost sure at least,
haven't tried the new "Plus" version yet), licensing it allows for
further
features to be used.
In case one needs more sophisticated features, Redmaticas "Keymap"
is
defenitely where it's at.

I have Keymap, but I'm not creating samples nor instruments for the
EXS but for another instrument that isn't exactly a sampler, more
like a rompler, that's why I need the loop information written into
the file.

... and Keymap will do that too, i.e. it can:
- render crossfades
- add loop data to sample files
- add mapping data to sample files
- ...

I'm pretty sure keymap can do this, and you already have it! Its almost a
shame keymap is
sold so heavily as an exs editor, as it works really well as an audio file
'fixer'

How are people getting on with the Redmatica Keymap learning curve? They are
doing seminars in New York this next week, I'll be there and look forward to
seeing it demonstrated. I've had the Compendium bundle for almost a month
now and will reserve my comments until after the seminar next week.

I'm trying to do something with an existing patch, and I'm not finding it in
the manual anywhere -
I have a patch with 4 groups for each note, with dynamics that go from mp to
f to ff to fff.
I'd like to be able to crossfade between the groups *during* a single note,
using the mod wheel, to simulate a swell. Is this possible?
TIA for any pointers.

Nope. =(
There is only one "Select Range" destination available, so only
one
source can take it. You have Velocity taking it. (See the modulation
matrix, Vel->Sample Select. "Sample Select" refers to Select
Range"
in the Groups or Zones.)
To have a MW XFade, you'd have to have the MW address the "Select
Range" parameter.
Now, IF you had just one velocity, then here's how you would do it.
Take 4 Groups that set Select Range as follows:
0-0, 42-42, 84-84, 127-127
Then set XFade in the front panel (it's a global parameter) to
"+-42", and set a Modulation to Ctl 1, Dest as Sample Select, and
amount to 100%. There's you XFade.
Looking backwards, you can see that there's no room for velocity
splits now, since the MW took that over.
That's probably my #1 or #2 shortcoming, and the most silly
limitation, of the EXS24.

Garth -
This actually works exactly the way I want it to. The way the patch worked
originally was that every zone had all four groups assigned, and every note
event regardless of velocity triggered all four groups for every
zone
(the ³Select Range² box is unchecked in every zone). Setting it up
the way
you described now allows me to affect precisely the crossfade I was going
for.
THANK YOU ! !

Just out of interest, how did you make one Zone be part of 4
different Groups? A Zone just has one Group Assignment parameter.
