Subject: Multi Channel Outputs with EXS
Message #16151
I'm new to Logic but am loving the heck out of it!!! Can someone assist me if you load a mapped drum sample into the EXS and you want to have multi outputs. For Example, Kicks can be assigned to an output of channel 1 Snare to channel 2 and so forth. Was a little confused with the zones, groups etc. Maybe someone can dumb it down for me. Love this user group board by the way. Keep it up!!!!!! Toshi

You may have to go to the groups menu and tell it to show you the group outputs (or is it the view menu, don't have it in front of me at the mo!) other than that it should be very similar. You'll need to create the aux output object manually and assign them to the exs24s outputs (ie new audio object in the environment, change the Channel setting to the next free aux, and assign the in (in the i/o box) to the right instrument no. and output) but its all definitely doable in 7.x (and all previous vrs. that allowed multi outs.) Subject: [EXS] Tibetan Singing Bowls & free demo bank from Bolder
Message #16159
Hello All, At the Bolder Sounds website we are offering a free EXS 24 demo version of a new release - Tibetan Singing Bowls. The full version is 760 mb of 24 bit samples, while the demo is 20 mb of 16 bit samples. Bowl articulations offered are: hits (with various objects) sustained (puja stick on the rim of the bowl to make it "sing") and sustain release samples. The six bowls sampled range from 5.75 to 9.5 inches in diameter. There are also 2 audio demos of the Tibetan Bowls, one being voice narrated explaining the various mapping and programming techniques used in this sound set. Thanks for your time! --------------------------------------- Dennis Burns Bolder Sounds Boulder Colorado http://www.boldersounds.com ----------------------------------------

Subject: [EXS] Soundfonts conversions etc.
Message #16161
Hello all, I'm really interested in trying some Soundfonts in the Exs sampler. However, most sites I go to have "windows only" versions of them. Still others require a "conversion" program to unpack them or whatever. Sorry for my ignorance on the subject - what's the best way to find good soundfonts for the Mac and unpack/unzip/convert them etc. for use in the EXS sampler? I'm suing Logic 8. Thanks in advance! Apple is on very tedious financial ground - one lawsuit could break them. =) (ok, ha ha, I type "suing" for "using" all the time too) Yeah, that sfark thing is a proprietary compression thing for SF's. I actually have clients often send me the files and I unpack them for them and send them back, I'll do the same for you if you'd like. If you don't have a PC or a friend near you that could save you some money. (2) Bismark free soundfont player also opens any soundfont on the Mac: http://homepage.mac.com/bismark/downloads.html But it just plays them. Logic has been a Mac-only product since 7/1/02. Not sure if someone would be willing to sell you an XSKey with 5.5.1 authorization and even if this would be at all legal, but this is your only option AFAICT. Best, Andy

Subject: Separating Octaves
Message #16173
I have started to use the EXS 24 edit function more recently. Its great for separating drum kits into aux channels so you can apply different FX / levels to different parts of the drum kit, especially key bits like kick / snare. So the other day, I decided to see what would happen if i Changed the octaves outputs of a Piano sample. I used a multi-channel plugin, set the key range of the first zone from C1-B1, second zone to C2-B2, and so on. I then set their respective outputs to Aux1, Aux2 and so on. I was expecting no change except which aux the sound came out of. However, it made all the octaves on the piano identical, so there was only 1 pitch of each note wherever on the keyboard you played it. Can anybody explain this?

Yes- you need to make sure the "pitch" parameter is enabled. You can select all zones and once and click it on - no need to use a modifier. With this parameter off, every note sounds at the pitch of the root note of the sample being triggered.
