Since most EXS users use sample cds, companies are more
than welcome to announce new sample CDs they have released.
Companies are also more than welcome to announce special
offers or discounts/sales they are having on sample CDs,
as long as such announcements are not made excessively.
To prevent the list from becoming too commercial in nature,
we ask that any one person or company only post on-topic
advertisements once every 60 days.
Advertising any non-EXS related products will be considered
spamming and will result in your advertisement being deleted,
and your account being banned from the exs-users, logic-users
and other related lists. If you are bundling EXS24 or sample
cds with non-EXS/sample cd products we request that you
first clear your message with the list admins by sending it
to exs-users-owner@yahoogroups.com , before sending it to the
list.
********************************************************
- Please trim your quotes as much as possible - it saves
a consider about of space if you don't quote entire
messages unnecessarily.
- YahooGroups appends several lines of text to each message,
plus the list itself adds a few lines of key information
to the bottom of each email. We've had a few list members
start using extermely long signature lines themselves, so
by the time it all adds up a 1 line email could end up
with a 25+ line signature appended to it.
Unfortunately we have no control over YahooGroup's own
signature line. We have shortened the list's own signature,
and to further reduce clutter we are asking all list members
to not use an email signature of more than 5-10 lines. We
also ask that you don't include too many links or advertisements,
or anything else deemed offensive (such as political quotes).
The list moderators will contact you at their discretion if
there is a problem with your email signature.
- Members who disregard these requests will be moderated
and asked to correct offending messages before they
can be posted to the list.
- Sharing illegal samples on the list, or asking for people
to trade with, is not allowed. Please be aware that we
highly value intellectual property and anyone who breaks
this rule will be banned.
- This is an international list. All messages need to be
written in English so everyone can communicate together.
Please do not send messages written in other languages.
- Please keep all messages sent to the list somewhat
EXS/sampling related. Anything extremely off topic should
be sent to Logic-OT also here on Yahoo Groups, which is
our communal "Emagic off topic" list. This includes
political discussions.
- No Mac/PC or OS flame wars. EXS-related Mac vs PC
discussions will be allowed on this list, though any
individuals who fail to discuss this subject calmly and
become too vicious will be removed from the list.
*** All threads in this vein will need to remain on
topic (directly relating to EXS). ***
- We also manage several other Emagic-related mailing lists,
all hosted by YahooGroups: Logic-Users, Logic-TDM, Logic-OT,

our other lists.

FINAL LOGIC USERS GROUP 2007 GROUP BUY:
REDMATICA/KEYMAP GROUP BUY!
The Administrators of the Logic Users Group, EXS Users Group and
Redmatica (http://www.redmatica.com) are pleased to bring you our
final group buy for 2007! We had many requests for group buys for
Keymap 1.5 and Keymap One 1.5, but Redmatica has been gracious enough
to include ALL products in the group buy! That includes upgrades
from one product to another, such as upgrading Keymap One to Keymap,
or upgrading from one product to a full bundle.
Redmatica has been a long-time supporter and friend to the Logic User
and EXS Groups, having a well-established history of developing
innovating software that integrates seamlessly with Logic Pro and the
Macintosh platform as a whole. Redmatica has taken that integration
to the next level with the Keymap software and Logic Pro 8, which can
be accessed directly from within Logic itself. We really can't say
enough good things about Redmatica; very simply, if you ever use
sampling, you need to have at least some of Redmatica's offerings.
Below is a quick list of the products in this group buy, along with
links for more information.
KEYMAP
http://www.redmatica.com/Redmatica/Keymap_1.5.html
The built-in EXS24 editor is fine as long as you just want to quickly
adjust a parameter or two, but for serious sampler instrument
creation and sample editing, KEYMAP is the most complete and
intuitive sample editor available, bar none. The fact that it
integrates seamlessly with Logic Pro 8 extends the feature set of
both Keymap and Logic Pro 8 itself to make this a nearly mandatory
combination for anyone serious about sample editing and sampler
instrument construction. It's got more extremely powerful unique
features than there is room to mention here: batch instrument
creator, harmonic resynthesis, surround and spacialization features,
advanced tuning/pitch functions, best in class automatic
looping/slicing/transient detection, and more. Keymap not only helps
you put together the best sampler instruments you can, but they will
come together faster, more accurately, and sound better.
As mentioned above, not only does Keymap integrate with Logic Pro 8
and the EXS24, but you can also extremely easily convert your Keymap
instruments to run on your sampler of choice, be it Kontakt,
MachFive, etc. It directly supports audio in WAV, AIFF, mp3, and AAC
format. Keymap offers an amazing plethora of audio and MIDI routing
options to effortlessly integrate into any existing workflow.
Really, you owe it to yourself to check out the website for the full
details of what Keymap can do for you. It's not simply software in
its class, it's the ONLY software in its class.
KEYMAP ONE
http://www.redmatica.com/Redmatica/Keymap_One_1.5.html
Keymap One is the baby brother to Keymap. It's not "crippleware"
in
any sense; its a fully-featured, completely professional version of
Keymap, complete with all of its Logic Pro 8 integration and advanced
editing and looping features. It does lack some of the high end
functionality such as the Surround mixer, batch processor, tuning and
pitch correction, and some others. However, if you own Keymap One
and decide you need those features, there is an upgrade path to
Keymap.
EXS MANAGER
http://www.redmatica.com/Redmatica/ExsManager.html
If you use EXS Sampler Instruments or GarageBand instruments then you
need to own EXS Manager. Really, it's that simple. This program
lets you re-link missing samples to instruments, detect duplicate and
unused samples, consolidate samples for improved performance, manage
and optimize Sampler Instruments on your hard drive, and otherwise
manage all your EXS24 and GarageBand instruments. It offers
comprehensive and clear visualization and reporting of your
instruments and samples, search modes, and so on. See the website
for complete information.
AUTOSAMPLER
http://www.redmatica.com/Redmatica/AutoSampler.html
So you love your hardware synthesizers, but you hardly ever use them
because software instruments are so much more convenient.
Still...you miss those couple of patches you just can't duplicate in
software. Or perhaps you use a metric ton of hardware instruments in
the studio and want to take your show on the road, but you don't want
to bring a truckload of synthesizers with you. Maybe you already do
use software instruments, but some of your favorites have been
discontinued, and as you move to new hardware, operating systems, and
versions of Logic, you hate to loose them. Good news for all of the
above—Autosampler to the rescue!
Simply put, Autosampler automatically samples your hardware or
software instrument and makes an EXS24 instrument from it. You set
up parameters such as how many notes to play and sample, how many
velocity layers, various advanced swiches or fades between various
synth parameters to make, and so on, and then Autosampler does it.
You can even have it automatically switch patches for you if you want
to sample one or more banks. It can import patch names from text
files, process samples, even sample MIDIfied acoustic pianos and
other more complex sampling environments. Check the website for more
information.
COMPENDIUM BUNDLE
http://www.redmatica.com/Redmatica/Compendium.html

The success of the group buy is of course dependent on the number of
subscribers. While it is not possible to guarantee that the 40% price
point can be reached, as many reading this will know, just about all
of our LUG group buys have done very well and most did in fact reach
the maximum discount offered by the developer.
Please also note, the Group Buy will be calculated in US Dollars.
Bearing in mind the current exchange rate, this is excellent news for
EU subscribers. Please note, if you have an EU address, you will be
charged V.A.T. at the rate applicable in your country. If however,
you have a V.A.T. registration number you can use it to avoid paying
V.A.T.
HOW TO SIGN UP:
Please use this link to the main Redmatica Group Buy Website:
http://www.redmatica.com/Redmatica/GroupBuy.html
From here, you can proceed to sign up for any of the products you
wish to buy. When subscribing, you will be sent a confirmation Email.
Each subscriber will then receive a weblink to his own Redmatica
Group Buy web page in the confirmation email. At that webpage, the
subscriber finds a description of what he subscribed for, and when he
signed up. Once the group buy shop opens, a button in those web pages
will become active and allow each subscriber to pay directly for the
preordered software. The main Redmatica Group Buy website also
provides up-to-date information about the progress of the group buy,
and allows you to see which price points have been achieved at any
given time. Please note that you may only sign up once for each
product - after this, your mail address will be registered, and no
longer accepted should you attempt to sign up again. This is to avoid
any possible duplications or multiple sign ups. Should you sign up
and not receive confirmation, please first of all check your Spam
filter, if the response mail is not there, please contact a LUG
moderator or Redmatica at info@redmatica.com .
Once the group buy is over, payment information will be sent on to
each member. All Products will be available as downloads only. Once
payment has been received by Redmatica, you will receive instructions
allowing you to download the products you bought.
Once again, if you have any questions, you are welcome to contact
Redmatica at info@redmatica.com or a LUG/EXS moderator.
Each Redmatica license, while still being a single user license,
allows installation on up to 3 Macs at once. The authorization
process for all Redmatica products consists of two simple steps:
first you will have to run an authorizer tool on the Mac(s) where you
will install the software. The tool will give you a unique Computer
ID string that you will have to mail to Redmatica, and the software
will be sent back ad a download link by email within a few minutes.
This system allows you to change hard disks, install new OS releases,
with no need to reauthorize the software.
DURATION OF THE GROUP BUY:
The group buy will start at 0:01 a.m., Wednesday Dec 5, Central
European time, and run until Midnight, December 19 Pacific Coast
Time.
IMPORTANT!
Only one licence of each product will be allowed per subscriber - in
other words, you are welcome to subscribe for one each EXS Manager,
Keymap, but you may not subscribe for two AutoSampler licences. Also,
the upgrades can be purchased only if you already have the product
you want to upgrade from. When purchasing upgrades, you should
register using the same email address as shown in the about box of
your installed Redmatica product.
While unsubscribing is possible during the course of the group buy,
once it is over, all subscriptions will be considered as binding
commitments to purchase. We have never had to ask for pre-payment for
any LUG group buy, so far the vast majority of subscribers have been
very honest about honoring their commitments. We sincerely hope that
this will remain the case, and would ask everyone considering
subscribing only to do so if they are serious about participating.
Anyone who remains signed up but does not in the end proceed with a
purchase may at the discretion of the LUG Administrators be excluded
from future LUG Group buys. Payments must be received no later than
midnight, Jan 5 2008 Pacific time. Should you experience any
difficulties signing up or, later, proceeding with purchasing, please
contact either Redmatica or a LUG Moderator straight away.

OK, this is VERY nice to see....however I have a few questions to ask.
How do we post this on other forums such as DOA, Gearsluts, TapeOp,
etc??? Do people have to be members of LUG to get this? And I think
EVERYONE who DOES NOT own any of these should go for the BUNDLE so we
can get it down to the 40% discount, tell EVERYONE!!!!!!

Hi Dan
Well, it wouldn't be the first time that discussions about one of our
group buys took place somewhere other than the LUG (or in this case,
EXS list). It is really sensible to be a member of one or both groups.
Questions do arise, not only amongst first time goup buy participants,
and the place to get them answered is either here, or the LUG.
kind regards
Mark

Is any one out there using Logic with Leopard successfully? I
started to upgrade and I've heard all kinds of rumors about loss of
audio interfaces and broken plug ins.... On the other hand.... i've
read that Logic 8 was made to run with Leopard so it's a marriage
made it heaven.... Which is it?
Thanks in advance

I had a problem with old EXS. So you should backup your EXS before you
upgrade from LP7 to

You asked for feedback. Here is my initial experience of Leopard.
I am currently running Logic Pro 8 (upgraded from Pro 7) fine - dongle
no longer required after installation, on Leopard.
I had been having problems getting SoundTrack to work properly on
Tiger, and decided that as I would eventually have to go to Leopard,
I might as well bite the bullet, do a clean install, and upgrade
everything on my MacBook Pro.
Having backed up Tiger and all its luggage onto an outboard hard
drive, I initially found that the Leopard install would freeze after
about an thirty minutes into the game.
I eventually discovered that this was because "someone" had left
sticky finger marks on the install disk, and I had missed it as I had
skipped the verify DVD step.
Cloth wipe solved that one, but much worse was to come;-(
As I reinstalled my numerous plug-ins, third party applications etc.
everything seemed to go fine until I re-installed Melodyne Studio,
which prevented any of the Logic applications from launching.
Celemony are aware of this problem with their bridge and ReWire, and
are working on a fix.
http://www.celemony.com/cms/
Cameleon, Guitar Pro 5, Visual Hub, Audio Hijack Pro, Fission, Peak,
and all Redmatica applications worked perfectly from the re-
downloaded, installed and registered versions.
My problem with the LFE channel 6 of surround seems to have fixed
itself overnight.
Some applications need strange tweaks; e.g. FileMaker 8.5 requires
that the system language be set to US English instead of UK English;
iMovie fails to recognise my video camera,
I have yet to install or test my printers, scanners, Final Cut,
Mathematica, Reason, Absynth, Albino NI misc. etc.
Mail has the strange quirk that it refuses to put my signatures
automatically onto emails.
The Time Machine took many hours to index my six outboard hard drives,
but when completed does seem to work fine.
Disk Warrior requires a costly upgrade to run on Leopard, but Leopard-
used hard drives can be repaired using Tiger DW when connected to a
Tiger Mac.
Latest odd bug-find, is that Logic crashes whilst attempting to save
after "stretching" audio files; but only after the third stretch
has
been made.
The gui's are much better in the new Logic once you get used to the
changed location of the familiar icons and controls.
So go for it, when you have some spare time to work through all the
details, and be sure at least one en-Tigered Mac available to use
until you get it everything up and running
Enjoy!

Hello EXS users,
I've posted a new Bolder FREE Sounds sound set at the Bolder website
in EXS 24 as well as NI Kontakt 2 format. It is entitled "Granular
Kitchen" and is about 20 mb in size.
I took some ordinary kitchen utensils and via granular synthesis
created some sounds with a atmospheric-metallic-wintery flavor.
Have fun .... also have a happy and safe holiday!

I just tested the EXS download and it works fine from here.
Anyone else experiencing a problem downloading the "Granular
Kitchen"
set?

There is a dedicated UI for Vienna, but is there one for JamPack 4. Also the
Akai EWI4000s sound banks? I can hear through Logic all the instruments
except the Akai's by simply clicking on a channel strip-but the breath
control-the reason for getting the Akai-doesn't seem to be anywhere I have
looked so far, except when listening through headphones plugged into the
Akai 's headphone out jack playing an instr. from it's factory preset and
then I have what I had hoped for: a woodwind with no reed or hole to blow
across that has Volume and articulation parameters. I was planning on
recording with the Akai on tracks that could because they are MIDI not audio
then be edited and put at lower pitch ,415 or 392, and a better tuning
system than Equal Temperament-like Werkmeister 3-all available in Logic and
while still un-bounced-MIDI-META DATA that can be tweaked. Any takers? Any
help would be Appreciated, Thanks in advance.
Is there any way to crossfade between sample sets using an LFO? I am
building layered,
electronica-based drum kits, with different treatments, and I want to use an
LFO to switch
between samples sets. I also want to apply this method to do wave mixing. I
know how to do
round robin, and to use the mod wheel to do switching, but I'd like to use
the LFOs. I've also
tried this with Kontakt 2, but to no avail.

There is a difference between "switching" and "fading".
The main
difference is that "switching" means that "this sample(s) are
available when you do something" whereas "fading" means
"this
sample(s) sounds as you do something".
Fading is real time, whereas switching is "setup" time (if you can
call it that).
You'll notice in EXS24 that switching is quite versatile (to the
sample level), whereas fading is global, so it's much more
restrictive. Kontakt lifts those restrictions.
Is this your desire, for example:
You hit a key, and an ambulance siren, a loud buzzer, and a sinewave
are all playing at once, but you only hear the ambulence. As the LFO
plays through, the siren fades out and the buzzer fades in, and then
the buzzer fades out and the sinewave fades in, then the sincewave
fades out and the siren fades in, and on and on. Is that what you are after?

Well theres plenty of people using it just fine.
Broken plugins and audio hardware is not a fault of Logic's if they
all of a sudden dont work in Leopard.
Its the manufacturer's fault for not updating for the new OS.
If your plugins arent updated, dont upgrade, otherwise have at it.

Yeah, this is a good instance where the lack of sample-level LFO and
modulators in the EXS bites you. But you know what you could do:
Make 2 or more EXS instruments. Each instrument would have the same
LFO setup where it would mod volume and perhaps use a sawtooth wave
or similar. One instrument would have it straight, the other would
invert the modulation.
In Kontakt, this would be easy - instead of using LFO's, use Flex
Envelopes, and loop the envelopes, and you can custom-draw you fade
ins and fade outs. And you could do it with one instrument.

Many thanks to Mark and Redmatica for a great discount on their products.
40%, yes! we
made it!! A great xmas present or end of year purchase, whatever the
excuse.
Happy Xmas all! :O)
I'm sure many of us are very pleased to see that the Group buy has
now exceeded 1000 points, and we have therefore reached the best
discount of 40%. Many thanks to all who have subscribed so far. Here
is a table of the Redmatica software on offer, the list prices, and
the prices each product, upgrade or bundle is now available at:
Products List Price Group Buy Final Price
EXS Manager $105.00 $63.00
Auto Sampler $130.00 $78.00
Keymap One 1.5 $130.00 $78.00
Keymap 1.5 $249.00 $149.40
Compendium Bundle 1.5 $379.00 $227.40
Upgrade EM to CB $299.00 $179.40

In Addition, we have some more good news:
First of all, as we have reached the best possible prices, the store
will be opened shortly. That means, everyone who has already
subscribed may use the information they will have received from
Redmatica per Email to proceed with payment and download. Anyone who
is interested considering suibscribing may sign up and purchase
without any delays.
Furthermore, Redmatica have agreed to extend the sign up phase of the
group buy for another week - this means, we can continue to accept
signups until December 26th, midnight Pacific time at which stage the
sign up phase is over. Please remember that all payments must still
be made by Jan 5 2008.
IMPORTANT
Here are some points to be aware of when proceeding with payment:
A very important thing is the choice of currencies that is proposed
when you pay. The shop page lets you make payments in many currencies
and it
initially proposes a currency based on the country you are browsing
from. Basically, you can pay in euro (or any other currency)
but that will add a 3 or 4% conversion fee to the total cost, as the
original price is in USD.
If you want to pay in USD with *exactly* the prices shown in the
group
buy table you have to choose the USD currency
There may be some small delay between the making your order and the
software
delivery. Please do not be worried if it takes between 5 - 30 minutes.
European time, and run until Midnight, December 26 Pacific Coast
Time.
More information has been posted to the LUG list files section, you
can access it here:
