Sorry champ I mean 'exec' files....

Pardon, I still don't understand what these files are supposed to do.
In case we're talking about whatever patches that are supposed to be
loadable by the EXS, these have the suffix "exs", as in
"PhattBass.exs".
They are small files containing mapping information and sample location
references.
And if we're talking about them, I still don't understand your problem.

I think you are referring to libraries that come with an installer
that is supposed to install your EXS and sample files. (Actually,
more likely they install Giga files.) What library are you referring to?
If that's the case, the .EXE file is a Windows installer. Many Giga
libraries came this way; the .exe file is actually a RAR installer.
If so, the trick is to open the .exe with StuffIt Expander.
Doesn't the library you have come with instructions?

yeah nah they are just the exec files that come with magazine DVD
librarys....
I just thought there might be an easier way to load the bloody sampler...
I'll just second the redmatica software on this... this will sound
like a product endorsement, take that how you like, but what a huge
timesaver that was. I figure even at minimum wage the software paid
for itself in one shot of library cleanup.
It took about an hour to buy, install, and run it. then I left the
room. I was looking at at least a hundred hours of sampler work that
had gotten moved and disconnected from the exs.
plus I haven't had a sample not found message since I started using
it. not one.

Agreed. EXSManager is essential if you have even a fairly large
sample collection.
Redmatica now has an AMAZING new app called KeyMap - I'd advise any
serious EXS-samplist to look at it.
You can drag whole folders of sample into KeyMap and it will map all
of them according to the original pitch, or sample names etc. Even
this is a huge time-saver but it does a whole lot more. I'm still
working through the KeyMap manual and I'm very impressed....

Im trying to load wav (roland phantom x sounds) files into exsp24.
I've read a post that suggests using instrument editer, however im using
logic express that doesnt seem to have an edit function
any help would be good
i have a scary mystery probem with my exs library...
My VSL library, which makes up most of my samples, have stopped working -
they won't load at all.
The rest of the library (ie the emagic ones and others etc) load fine.
i've run exs manager (but not the latest) to re link - no joy.
Since I suddenly find myself unable to load songs (which include VSL stuff)
I'm currently working on, I thought I would try to open the songs without
them automatically loading the samples - i seem to remember there is a pref
button for this somewhere - but I can't find it!!!
i'm on 10.4.8/twin 2GIG G5/4GB ram btw running version 7.2
any thoughts very much appreciated here...

Where can I get a sample of the Hiroshima Peace Bell?
Anyone??

You must have done *something* to make this happen - perhaps a system
update or maybe even your directory is corrupt. Do you have
DiskWarrior or any drive repair app?
EXSManager should work - when you say "no joy" - what exactly
happens?
Have you tried posting at the VSL forums?

That is correct, Express includes the 'player' only version of the
EXS, hence
the 'P' in EXSP24. So, unfortunately this can only be done with the
'full' version,
found in Pro.

when my disk was about to die I could only copy VERY quickly the files to
another drive
without time to worry about trees and file linking. If you know where your
individual
samples are and you know where your exs instument files are you should be
able to relink
things by hand without too much trouble.
Use the <f> find function of the OS to locate individual samples. Or
do you have problems
with the instrument files? You need to locate them in the same fashion. Then
you can
create aliases <l> and drag the aliases into the instrument folder,
which is inside library/
application support/logic. thie library folder can be both in the users
files or the main
library folder.
disk repair doesn't help you unless your disk is damaged. the disk utility
does a good job
at repairing trees etc. otherwise you may look into "drive
genius".
I read a lot here about exs manager but I don't understand the use of it. I
think it is more
important to know exactly where your stuff is.
all the best

But you have been in advanced mode, yes? Then it should be enough to
know the disk where your stuff is. ESX manager finds all your
instruments and samples on a whole disk in minutes.

Thanks Jurgen, but that recording is very weak.
I was there in Hiroshima and the sound is deep and heavy.
Unfortunately I didn't have sound equipment at the time.
I'm hoping to find one that sounds like the bell up close.

Peter,
Thanks to your informative and encouraging remarks, I have tackled the
program in
earnest and verified all that you said in the process. I processed my Emu
library
surprisingly quickly to seek out "clones" (even checking the
entire sample file, BTW rather
than just the first 60,000 samples) and had the culprits (for me) moved to
the trash. I
have the "primaries" so there is probably no harm in deleting the
clones. This has put an
end to the annoying messages I was getting constantly (when I would load an
instrument
from this collection) to the effect that there were identical samples
lurking, etc. Now,
loading is practically instantaneous.
One thing that troubles me a little is the many megabytes of
"unused" samples which exist
despite the fact that all 20,000 plus instuments are now
"complete," despite a significant
incidence of "weak references." I had EXS mgr. move these orphan
samples to an "aux"
file. I spot checked here and there and was unable to find an instrument
which was
noticably suffering missing samples.
I attribute the detachment of these samples not to EXS manager, which has
merely
reported them, but perhaps to CDXract or even the original Emu CD's. I'm
grateful for its
existence, however CDxtract seems to have "demapped" my Emu
drumkits and just broke
the individual samples out as it they were separate instruments, so maybe
I'll get "Keymap"
to expedite reassembling them. Something has been lost in translation here
and there, I
guess, but at this point, I'm moving on from that project. I have a much
more accessible
collection now, in any event. I can always resort to using the hardware if
things seem
amiss.
Also, thanks to Andrea at Redmatica for the invitation to query Redmatica
support.

That at least proves that I don't tell nonsense the whole day. Half
of the day, perhaps.

Moving them to a separate place was a good idea. I know of four
reasons for orphaned samples.
1 - There is (or was) an instrument somewhere, which EXS manager
doesn't see and the samples belong to that instrument.
2 - The samples originally belonged to one of your used instrument
but are actually not used and not linked in the original instrument
file. Some developers don't delete individual samples after they
decided not to use them.
3 - The samples belong to a library you have but do not belong to an
instrument because they are for special usage.
4 - The samples are from somewhere else (CD, etc) and don't belong to
an instrument. They are probably not even that type of samples but
other audio files.
20,000 instruments? Wow. Didn't kow that the EXS can handle that
many. Must take days to find a sound.

Yeah, something like that. If the names can't, the sounds of the
samples might give you a clue about their origin.

Whoa! What a huge sample collection this is!
Here's the link:

Great collection, but the bell sound is very weak.
The sound up close is truly amazing.
Of course I tried the Goolge search before coming to EXS.
Your sarcasm is not appreciated Jurgen.
If anyone can recommend a site, I'd much appreciate.

I've recorded some conga samples at my friends house and I want to load them
onto the EXS sampler. I loaded up the EXS sampler, clicked on edit went to
new instrument and created my instrument and then went to new zone. I kept
repeating this and I then loaded up my conga samples. Unfortunately they
are not playing back. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?

You need to save the EXS instrument you created, and load it into the EXS,
via the drop-down
menu. You also want to make sure the conga samples loaded into each zone are
set to
oneshot, so that they play through when they are triggered.

That method seemed to work. I have a new problem. When I finish loading up
my samples I saved the instrument. I then saved the whole file as a Logic
song file and quit. When I reopen the file and go into edit function and
open my conga samples they don't trigger the conga samples but this horrible
noise. Any ideas why this might be the case?

Are you getting a sine wave type of 'noise' or is it a nasty digital
distortion? If it's the sine
wave thing, that means the samples did not load.
Hi Everyboby,
I´m looking for a usable Mandolin- Sample.
It seems to be very hard to get one.
Can anybody help me.
Thanks a lot, Klaus
