Possibly, this question was made in the past, but I can't find it.
Excuse me if this is the case...
My first question is: What kind of file is a .akp?
My second (and last) is: Can EXS24 read this .akp's?
I just find a possible theremin source, but is in .akp, and I would like to
know if this file is a valid EXS24 file.
If not, know you something about play a theremin with the Logic's sampler?
Thank you in advance,
alexander

I think its an Akai program file (been a few years since i used one!) does
this akp come
with wavs? If so you need a program like CDXtract on Chickensys Translator
to convert it
to exs format. EXS can import akai format cds (allegedly, haven't tried it
for a bit and i
remember some issues that may have been sorted) but not Akai program files
on a normal
CD or HD.
Hope this helps, Mike

1) It's the native format for the S-5000 Akai sampler.
2) No it can't. You need to use a thrid party convertor such as
Translator www.chickensys.com or CDXtract www.cdxtract.com to convert
the .akp into a .exs file. Or you can just rebuild it yourself from
the .wav files (which will accompany the .akp).

Thank you, so much for this valuable information!
Hello,
I've got aproblem because of my old equipment and my search
for suitable sample-libraries.
My computer: i-Mac(Snow) DV-SE 500 MHz G3, 256 MB,
Mac OS 9.0.4 - 9.2.2;
sequencer: Logic Audio Gold 4.6;
sampler: EXS24 1.0.
How is it possible to upgrade to a newer Logic version
like 6?
What are the system-requirements of it?
May I get/buy a key for logic 6?
Another point of thinking:
If I'd buy one of the new available sample-libraries made
for EXS24, for instance "Advanced Orchestra Extended" or
"Ethno World 2", would the old version 1.0 be able to read
them? It wouldn't be necessary to make all new features
working, but could I use the sample-instruments?
Who can help a little?
Yours - Titus

Logic 6 is no longer available, in fact Logic 7 was released over two years
ago. Furthermore, AFAIK, there is no upgrade path offered from versions of
logic older than 5.
> What are the system-requirements of it?
The requirements for Logic 7 are listed here, with a G4 as minimum:
http://www.apple.com/logicpro/specs.html
> May I get/buy a key for logic 6?
Only second hand, but be very careful that any offers you may find are
genuine, and remember that there is no support for versions of Logic older
than 7, nor for XSkeys which haven't a 7 authorisation. If you do happen to
find a second hand logic 5 or 6, you can then upgrade to 7.

Just FWIW, some of the libraries I tried don't sound too good on my
4.8.1 system on a nuBus machine...
Best,

i have some piano sequencers and samples tthat I would like to add to my
EXS24 sampler......I would like to know how i would be able to do this. At
the moment, I have the keyboards and samples saved on a hard drive which is
not my start up drive. Logic is installed on my start up drive.
if anyone knows how this can be done, I would be happy if i can get some
help.
Thank you
godfrey ...........I use a mac G5.........Tiger 10.4,.........80 Gig hard
drive..........3 gig memory
I brought home a new iMac 20" today, and had Logic 7.0 running fine
pretty
quickly. The iMac is of course an Intel based one. The only problem i am
having is that i can no longer make new sampler instruments in teh EXS24
using REX files. In the 'edit' menu, under 'instrument,' the sub menu
'Recycle Convert' is grayed out. Any ideas? Maybe this is some obvious
thing, but I just can't figure it out.
thanks.
Hi,
I'm trying to assign control over the EXS24 ENV2 (Amp) attack to one of the
MIDI faders on my keyboard so I can change it as I play. However I can't
figure out which MIDI number the EXS attack might have been allocated? Can
the EXS24 in fact accept MIDI commands to make parameter changes? Or is this
only do-able through drawing in the automation?
Thanks,
Denis Clohessy
Hi folks,
Anrea Gozzi of Redmatica has released his long-awaited software
Keymap software:
http://www.redmatica.com./Redmatica/Keymap.html
This will be a MUST-HAVE for any serious EXS24 owner.
I just ordered my copy.....

You should check the preferences in Song Settings >MIDI to see that
the 64 high-numbered Controllers are being allowed to access the EXS
or are used as standard MIDI.
WHINING WARNING
This is a real drag - it would be much better for Logic's internal
instruments not to have to rely on standard CC controllers which are
useful for other things.
Why is there not a bank of "Meta-Controllers" for internal
messages?

from what i know "samples" go in APP_LOGIC PRO_EXSamlpes
-------PROGRAM GO in
APP_LOgic PRO_SAMPLER INSTRUMENT. AND I THINK YOU CAN WRITE THE PROGRAM IN
LOGIC LOOK IN YOUR EXS24 BOOKLET

Just downloaded the user's guide out of curiousity...
ugh, 317 pages and no table of contents, and no index??
Keymap seems to have a build-in sample editor, and EXS24's own sample
editor isn't really one of it's strong points. But I still have to
find a detailed description of Keymap's sample editor in the manual...

Ah, thanks! It seems this is exactly what is missing in EXS24 (and
much more).
Here's a suggestion: older samplers (I'm a former Roland sampler
user) had an alternate loop option, i.e. the lopp is played back
forward, then backwards, then forward and so on. AFAIK no software
sampler allows for this, though often a good loop can be achieved
this way when it's difficult to get a good loop with the standard
forward-only method. This could be integrated into Keymap. I know
CDXtract can "unroll" alternate loops in existing samples, but it
cannot create new ones.
Another comment: browsing through the user's guide I found the
following sentence: "Keymap is also not a plugin, and you can’t place
it in a Logic channel strip" (page 5). It's probably not of much
practical use, but this actually might be possible using Jack:
http://www.jackosx.com/
And, in my very humble opinion, the Keymap user's guide *really*
needs a table of contents... ;-)

I totally agree with you.
There's a second manual revision coming very soon.

Has anyone else noticed that the Logic Pro EXS24 Double Bass (Arco) is
playing up by 4 semitones? What's the easiest way to alter this permanently?

In the EXS window change the "Tune" know to read "-4",
then choose
"Save settings to instrument" from the options menu.

Yes. Each sample has a loop toggle on it. I am trying to just touch the
key to trigger a looped sample though. Hit the key once for on, once for
off. By having the loop box checked, it allows you loop, but the key needs
to be held down. This topic has escaped everyone so far. Anyone know?
Can anyone help? I am new on here and to Logic, reading an article in
Compter Music, it is saying to load a sample(s) of drum beats into it then
assign them to midi keys.
Help please!!!

You can assign MIDI control number 64 (sustain) to note on events. I believe
note velocities
from 64-127 will turn sustain on, while velocities from 1-63 will turn
sustain off. You might
also try creating a dummy Zone (with no sample assigned) and assign that,
along w/ your
loop, to a Group that is allocated only one voice. This way you can use the
dummy Zone for
muting the loop.

To all exs users,
Keymap is awesome.....
If you do any sort of tweaking inside exs24 then you need Keymap
Andrea is selling it at a discount for owners of other Redmatica apps

A correction to my previous post: You need to load a sample into the dummy
zone in
order for it to be used as a mute control. Also, velocity doesn't seem to
have an effect on
the sustain (hold) control. It seems that you can only turn sustain on, but
not off using
note values. However, the system I laid out does allow you to toggle a loop.
