Haven't heard much chatter lately about the current state of pop &
jazz brass libraries. With Garritan, First Call, Arturia etc., it
seems there has recently been an attempt to fill what has long been a
gaping void. Any opinions on the new options? Is anybody using the
Kick A$$ Brass virtual instrument as an AU?
ahh i get it, thanks!

Thanks for the answer!
Yes, you are right, EXSP can not save back to EXS format, however it
can save a VST standard fxp file (which includes all parameter
settings) which would be more than enough for me, as I do not want
change zones, etc.
The reason I asked this because I used the "load next/previous
instrument" a lot on EXS24 MKII, however the EXSP does not support
this.
However, if I would have all the exs files converted to this
"linkfile" (fxp) then I could use the new browser system (Mediabay
and
Soundframe) incorporated into Cubase 4, where I could again use this
"load next/previous instrument" just by pressing the keyboard
buttons,
which automatically loads instrments - the associated fxp references
to exs files.
This is the reason I would like to convert, or more precisely: to add
also an *.fxp file besides all my *.exs files.
So is this possible to create *.fxp files from my *.exs files in huge
volumes?
Thanks!

Send me one of these .fxp files and I'll check for you.

Hi all,
has anyone used Logic's Tempo Interpreter with the EXS24?
I just tried it, assigned a MIDI note to tap tempo, laid down a
simple one-bar pattern (looped) on EXS24's instrument track and
started tapping that key. I get "Sync error between MIDI and
audio"
messages all the time. I tried various settings in the tempo
interpreter window. Am I doing something wrong or does that thing
plainly not work at all?
And what the heck were the developers thinking coming up with a
dialog box (that has to be prompted by clicking ok or pressing enter)
in such a situation in a software that is intended for live use??

Hi Ingo,
I sometimes use the Tempo plug to quickly find the tempo of a piece
of music for reference. I play an audio file through an audio
channel, with the plug in slot 1 - after a while it flashes when it
finds the tempo.
It works best with tracks that have a strong repetitive drum beat.
I have never tried it with tapping as you mention above....

There is a misunderstanding. Colin means the plugin "BPM Counter"
but
Ingo asked about Options>>Tempo>>Tempo Interpreter. That tiny
window
where you can tap on somehing to generate MIDI sync errors.
Ingo, if you want to tap you may want to try MidiClock which is
freeware:
http://www.grantedsw.com
It builds a kind of buffer beteen you and Logic because it measures
your taps and sends a MIDI clock out which you can use to synchronize
Logic. Logic does not react as direcly as the manual claims for the
Tempo Interpreter :-> but it follows the tempo reasonable good. Of
course it goes much faster up than down but that is common for such
stuff. And it is a bit of a mess to have another application to watch...

You're right....I must need either more sleep or more coffee :-(

The ES1 -- as its name implies -- is a synthesizer, and doesn't use
samples... But you can easily synthesize a Theremin sound yourself!
be it electronic or real kits-- does anyone have any recommendations
for killer "groove" cds at mid tempos? either apple loops or exs
files? (think cocteau twins, depeche mode, massive attack, verve,
doves, elbow, etc...)
thanks for the responses!

Hi,
When I press play or record in logic, my MPC 4000+ sarts playing its beat,
BUT logic doesn't
move (the "tape" doesn't roll/play bar doesnt scroll - like it
normally would when you press
record/play) so I cant record it.
What little box do I need to check so that logic can record while its
sending MMC? (The
transmit MMC box is checked)
Thanks!!!

Hi, I was wondering two things.
I am on a new intel mac so none of my native instrument stuff works, I
mainly need to access my garritan library.
Does anyobdy know of any way that i can convert nki files into exs24 files
so i can use the library in logic.
thank you

Which Garritan library? If you have GPO, I believe the samples are in
a proprietary format and can't be accessed except by the player. If
you have GOS that was originally converted from Giga, there is a
complete set of EXS instruments for that.

Still a useful advice. I wasn't aware of the BPM counter.

Thanks for the pointer, I just tried MidiClock. No more sync errors
in Logic, but unfortunately it doesn't do what I need: I want to tap,
say, four times and have the sequencer start with the fifth tap. Thus
the sequencer and my tapping are immediately in sync. Logic's tempo
interpreter does this (if it would work properly).
This is probably what MidiClock's "count in" is supposed to do,
but I
can't get it to work. The internal metronome of MidiClock starts
clicking with the first tap and continues clicking after the fourth,
and also changes tempo when I change the rate of my tapping. But
that's all, Logic doesn't start and no MIDI clock messages appear at
the MIDI output (it does both when Midi Clock's "count in" is
off).
Also MidiClock cannot be stopped anymore, I have to quit it.
Seems like a bug to me. I'll contact the makers of MidiClock.

MidiClock is somehow tricky to configure and there is unfortunately
no manual (at least I didn't find one). I always click on buttons
more or less randomly until it does someting I can work with. I do
not remember exactly how the count in works but I remember that I
couldn't use it how I wanted. But if you can count in and start later
to play it works. Just exactly at a certain bar is difficult if not
impossible.
> I'll contact the makers of MidiClock.
Please ask them to write a short description about the functions.
Even for freeware it is annoying to see a thing the first time and
start to mess around for an hour to find out basic functions. And if
it works it must not be freeware at all ...

Hi,
I'm wondering that how to use the Modulation Matrix of EXS24 to produce the
Strings Vibrato and Crescendo??
Someone talk about the CC...erm..may i know what's CC??
I am trying to load a wack of samples into my EXS, but I have so many I need
to create sub-menus for them all...How do I do this?

Make your own folders in the Sampler Instruments folder. I have one
"Logic" folder and others for other stuff.
Keep a backup of your folder. I've seen the Logic installer writing
its own folder, fortunately to system level and mine was on user
level. Don't know if it would overwrite a custom folder.

There are many ways to create vibrato and crescendo, and which is
best depends on the situation. You can use the LFO for vibrato but
this will probably sound not very realistic with string section
samples. You can try one of Logic's many modulation FX plug-ins.
Most realistic vibrato/crescendo is achieved when it's already in the
sample, but that is sometimes not desirable.
> Someone talk about the CC...erm..may i know what's CC??
CC stands for Controller Change and is a MIDI message. You can use a
CC message either to modulate an EXS parameter (pitch for instance)
directly, or to control the amount of modulation of another
modulation source (a LFO for instance).

A small readme.rtf file is included, that's all. At least it has a
chapter "Using MidiClock", but it's hardly a real user's manual.

Yep, that's exactly my problem.

Yup,did someone told me bout this LFO configuration to do the Vibrato and
Crescendo so..but i just wondering how to do the setting??Could you please
show me a sample ( which can be a Jpeg attachment or write down the setting
in a text) ,so that i can base on the sample and learn from there?

Oh..i see.now i'm truely understand!!haa..
erm..but,eventhough i'm understand the term-Controller Change..i still don't
have the idea to do the setting of the control so..because i'm not a
keyboardist..so,really not even understand the function of it!Would you mind
to give me some idea on it?or give me a step to fulfill it??
Thanks and appreciate!!
