Subject: EXS24 samples searching in an external drive
Message #15551
Hi.I have a problem with the storage of EXS24 and GarageBand audio files within my external hard drive. I moved EXS audiofiles and I created alias into the folder of Instruments of GarageBand moving then all the files in the external drive. Now EXS24 sees all the files in the flip menu but for searching the EXS24 or GarageBand audio files takes a life of time. What do I do? Thanks. Excuse me for my english...

I'm working on your suggestions today. Can you post a template here? The idea of using the EXS24 as a region player is brilliant. Any more thoughts. I'll get back to you with my results. Subject: Is EXSManager for me? (I Have about 1.5 terabytes)
Message #15553
Okay. My boss and I have an EXTENSIVE collection of exs samples and custom instruments. We have over 1.5 TB of samples, that are somewhere in the neighborhood of over 3 million samples. I was looking at the redmatic samplemanager. Is this something that will work for us (we add about 500 samples a week to our library). I read somewhere that it only works with up to 4 million samples? Or is there another program/manager that might be better for us? Right now we sit for about 3 minutes while our 200+ track template opens with our various EXS libraries sit and load. It's a pain when we are switching between cues, and bouncing out for orchestration. Any sugestions (other than not being sample hogs) are greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Themystro1

You can tell it exactly what to do. You set a source and a destination folder and select the kind of organization you want from several options which you ought to understand before you go for the big stuff. You don't have to mess up your instruments while you are learning. Just copy a handful and try in a safe place. ExsManager has a lot of security built in but as with all tools you can do something good and something bad. I suggest to learn the program slowly, test with duplicated instruments in separate folders and observe what it does. If you are sure go for a group of real stuff and if you are satisfied increase the number you process at once. You don't even have to process. Just let it scan and analyze your source folders that will tell you about the performance and the condition of your samples. Hey, I feel like a sales agent! Andrea, where are you? I am not supposed to put everything right. Subject: [EXS] EXS to *.fxp format?
Message #15555
Hi, I'll switching from Logic to Cubase. In Logic I have thousands of EXS files, which I would like to use in Cubase with the EXSP24 sample player. In EXSP24 I can save patches only into fxp format. My question: Is it possible somewhat to convert all my EXS files into simple fxp format? I could do manual conversion patch-by-patch, but it would take weeks...

EXS24P can load all the .exs files you currently have. There's no need to deal with .fxp stuff. You are understanding this backwards. Past that, I don't think the .fxp's that Cubase saves really are the equivalent of an .exs file. The P in EXS24P means "player", it isn't supposed to save anything. That's the point of EXS-24 "Pro". Is this something that will work for us (we add > > about 500 > > samples a week to our library). Hello Sam, we designed ExsManager from scratch in order to handle very large libraries, and it's as optimized as you can get, and as fast as your hardware (read: your disks) will allow. To give you a rough idea, analyzing and optimizing the VSL Pro library (>0.4 million files) will take about 5 minutes with a dual G5x2 and a simple firewire400 external drive. The real problem in managing those many samples might be that that currently ExsManager is, exactly as all other OSX apps, a 32 bit application that can only address 4GB of Ram. Ram is used for storing data used for analysis, and you might hit the 4GB limit in ExsManager with your large number of files. The suggestion here is simply to "divide and conquer": split your library in 3 or 4 sublibraries (read: subfolders) and you'll be fine. Btw, OSX 10.5 "Leopard" is 64 bit so I expect this 32 bit limitation to go away in the future. > I would not tell it to take the whole 1.5 TB just to see what > happens ... > > You can tell it exactly what to do. What I can say is that samplemerging your library will greatly improve loading time at the cost of more disk space used. As many VSL users here will be able to tell you, on the most complex Exs VSL instruments the load time ( with streaming enabled) went down to one third of the previous time (i.e. if it was originally taking 10 seconds, after samplemerge it becomes 3 seconds and something). > Hey, I feel like a sales agent! > Andrea, where are you? I am not supposed to put everything right. > Come and talk to your customers ;-) I'd invite Sam to contact us directly for any additional info or question, exactly because we do not want anyone in this list to feel like a sales agent, and this applies to me too :-) Best Regards Andrea at Redmatica

Hi All, Every time I save, Logic reloads all audio instruments. As you know with large libraries and symphonic music this can take a Loooong time not to mention the "that's not the way it's supposed to work" factor. Does anyone know the answer to this. Hi JP Well....it is a project. But every time I save I don't "save as a project" I just save. When I do this Logic re-loads all the audio instruments.... every time. This can take several minutes per save in a project with fat orchestration. It definitely inhibits saving www.julielarson.net

Funny - I find v 7.2.1 to be the most stable problem-free version so far, but that's on my system. I think it's wrong for any one person to condemn one or other version of Logic as everyone's setup is different and unique. Julie, regarding your original problem: I find that if I have 2 songs open and swap songs, all the audio instruments reload, but this never happens when I save a song. Have you selected the option where EXS24 keeps common samples in memory? Maybe this will help, though I suspect the song is corrupt somehow. Do you have the same problem with a brand new song? Check your project settings. If you untick "Save instruments with project" or something like that (don't remember the right name properly) it should work without reloading. At least it works here...
