Subject: Replacing Sample Loses Loop Points!? ughhhh...
Message #15527
I will be very grateful if someone could help me solve this. I went through and had to rename a bunch of samples to match the patch name. When loading the patch back up, not only were the samples not found (because they were renamed) but once re-loaded into the EXS editor, all of my loop points were gone! Hours of work, down the drain. Is there a way to replace a sample without losing the loop points?

Subject: [EXS] Sampler instruments Folder
Message #15528
Hi. I've spent the last hour checking for an existing answer to my problem. I found some answers, but when I tried to use them it didn't work. I have a G5 and Logic Pro 6.4.1 On 1st September the computer wouldn't turn on anymore. It seemed to be a problem of the operating system. So I bought an external hard-drive, copied all the datas there, bought Tiger and installed it from scratch. After that I simply moved the Logic application Icon from the external hard drive to the main Mac HD. I had previously backed-up the Logic preferences Folder so now I copied it again in MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences. When I open Logic, and open the EXS24, there are just no instruments to upload! So this morning, after reading many posts, I tried to make an alias of the Sampler Instruments Folder and put it in MacHD/Library/Application Support/Logic But it still doesn't work. I also tried to put it in the MacHD/User (Me)/Library/Application Support/Logic but...nothing. I need to point out that no Logic folder existed in the Application Support Folder, I just created it (maybe this is because I didn't install Logic from scratch on the new Tiger system?). So, thank you for any help, and hope I didn't ask too stupid questions :-) Paolo

Subject: [EXS] An EXS instrument template?
Message #15531
Hi, I'm looking for a very basic .EXS instrument template to use with garageband. Basically, I use garageband mostly just for real instrument samples, rather than software instruments, but I'd like to be able to trigger my sound samples with my keyboard. I can accomplish this to a certain extent by changing the directories for files in existing .exs instruments (just using a text editor), but I haven't been able to find an .exs instrument which has multiple octaves of ordinary, no-frills links to wav files. Can anyone help? Does this request make sense? (It seems like it is not a very complicated thing, since the tricky part about making .exs instruments does not appear to be specifying a range and linking notes to files) Is there a better question I should be asking? Thanks- Raphey

Hi Julie, Other folks have spoken well about the LaCie D2 drives - I have had repeated problems with the D2 250 Gb drives (one just died recently, and one a while back). I have now chosen a completely different route: External SATA drives = Serial ATA, same as your internal drives. I bought a housing from Sonnet which holds 4 drives of your choice. I have 4 x 400 GB in there, more than enough for my samples plus backups of my main drives. The box interfaces with my G5 via a PCI card and 4 cables. The drives are hot-swappable which allows for even more possibilities: I can use some of my old "small" 160GB drives for storing backups, movies, etc. I must say that (so far...) this is working really well, with none of the problems of firewire drives that I had experienced before. The data transfer rate is very high and having the "extra" drives to use for backups is great - 10 times faster than writing to DVD or DVD-RAM. It's another option..... Regards - Colin

Message #15537
I've recently upgraded to a macbook pro running logic pro. I've been having trouble with my AKAI instruments for the ESX. The sampler seems to see the alias for additional sampler instruments, but the AKAI instruments folder is not being recognized. I can't re import the files because the AKAI disks are long gone with the original unit. Any help would be great.

I have set up the alais' as indicated, and still no luck. When logic brought them over previously, did it do a conversion of some sort, or did it just recognize them as Akai samples and allow use? I'm wondering if I need to, somehow, reimport them. I've read a message that says make an image of them and see if they can be mounted that way. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the help.

Message #15542
Hi All, When I save in my current project, all the EXS instruments reload. What is that? Have I inadvertently done something to cause this or is something corrupt. It tends inhibit saving because it takes so much time.... not good. Also....when I open a movie the sound doesn't come with it. I can pull the sound in as an audio file....but that's just an extra step. What's going on? any clues? Thanks julie www.julielarson.net

Subject: [EXS] Using EXS24 to sample VST and Audio Unit Instruments
Message #15544
Us Greetings, Anybody had any success using the EXS24 to record your VST and AU instruments as EXS24 instruments? I've experimented developing templates in the matrix, recording ES2 .wav files. using stripe silence, convert region to audio file. I am recording signals, but have trouble with strip silence creating usable .wav files which have to be renamed with root key info in order to be automapped in a new EXS24 instrument. Anybody doing this successfully. Many problems here with: 1. Getting uniform sample lengths for each note recorded 2. developing the right Strip Silence template to cut the original audio file into accurate regions 3. Automatically cross-fading each region sample. 4 Big problem --the time it takes to rename each regions audio file with root key info. If somebody has s workable method, maybe they would be kind enough to post it here, especially the templates you use. Much appreciated, J Marti

> 1. Getting uniform sample lengths for each note recorded if you sample VIs, you have controll over start+end. maybe you should try (instead of slicing with strip silence) to cut the audio file into equal regions by holding ALT while using the scissor on the first note. just an idea, I hope this will be helpfull. With Compliments, Benjamin Wild wildjamin.de myspace.com/benjaminwild ps. my real tip would be to use the exs as region player. just make a program with different keyzones playing different parts of your orginal recording. if you have continous material (a loop) you can copy the end of one region to the start of the next regions (and save some time and lots of files..) if you have a defined start and end point maybe you could simply calculate the regions.. 0- 9999 10000-19999 19999-29999 29999-39999 just trim a region to your desired length, then adjust the tempo to match it (by selecting the region + setting locators, then use 'adjust tempo to..') 'export (your VI ) as single track' and give me some feedback if this works for you !

Have a look a look at these, they're not free, but they do make the whole process a lot easier! Samplit - www.cdxtract.com/samplit.php Autosampler - www.redmatica.com/Site/Pages/AM.php Autosampler has been around for a while, though is a little confusing to use Samplit is the new kid on the block, easier to use, but still a bit buggy (although still functional) they both have demo's so give them a go!
