Dear Logic Pro 7 Users,
Please forgive me if this topic has been covered many times before but if
anyone can help you learned folk can.
I recently upgraded to Logic Pro 7 from 6.34.
I have some Halion 2 programs and I just wandered if they can be converted
to be used in the EXS24.
I've searched the net for answers but have so far far come up with nothing.
Any words of wisdom gratefully received.
best wishes,
Damon

I have a large Halion library but have now dumped Cubase and moved to Logic
Pro and EXS.
I can convert from my original Akai discs except my orginal sample sets and
Halion Strings.
Is it possible to convert from Halion to EXS?

Damon and Colin:
It's possible, but not on the EXS itself. You can convert from HALion
for to EXS on the PC version of Translator (www.chickensys.com)
currently; a Mac implementation is due out shortly.

I see the program change actually appear in the Transport, so I know they
are hitting logic. I checked to make sure they aren't being blocked by the
filter preference, but there's no result. The program doesn't change like it
once did (like in V-Station for example). There's got to be something
somewhere in Logic that is screwing this up now. Any suggestions?
Update: I've spent the last couple hours driving myself nuts about this, but
I've learned a few things. It's not the USB driver of the controlling
keyboard; it's not my Autoload file; and it is not my preference files. I'm
reduced to thinking either Apple screwed up Logic in regards to external
program changes in the last couple versions, the program changes really
aren't getting through, or they are getting through and they aren't allowed
to control changes in Logic by default (and I just can't find the switch).
I swear on whatever is important to you that this was working around version
7.1. I'm stumped. I've looked at every preference option as far as I can
think of. My only final thought is there's some switch in the arrange window
or environment that I've overlooked. I'm going mad, I tell you, mad!
One more think that I've noticed. Program changes do not affect external
midi hardware either. Also, when I play a note, it appears on both the input
and output of the tranport midi readout. But when I send a program change,
it only appears on the input readout and not on the output. So, it seems
clear to me that Logic is receiving the program change but doesn't want to
send it to the active track, whether it be a software instrument or my
external hardware Supernova. So, Logic, what are you doing with my poor
program change commands? Anyone have any idea?

there is a filter for midi to allow sys ex pg change etc. Not in front of it
now.

Sorry folks, the solution is here (I am kulturshok there):
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=615284&tstart=0
I have some great beats & breaks that are in Reason Refils that I want
to
use in Logic via the EXS. I have done this with other Rex Files that were
not packaged in Refills, but is there anyway to do it with Rex Files that
are in Refills without using Rewire.
i have a mac, so refill extract (which is apparently only for PC) won't do
me any good. Unless i went through the hassle of extracting the files on a
PC then burning to CD then importing to my computer. But even if I do this
will I run into any PC-MAC compatibility issues?
Whenever I use the mod wheel to access volume or crossfade layers, I get
that "zipper" sound...very unstable and not smooth. Is there any
way of
getting rid of this? I suspect that it's because the midi date needs to be
thinned out. But I don't know where to do that. And if there is some way
of doing this, can it be saved to the instrument itself, or is it a Logic
preference?
Thanks,
Kirk

Hi,
I downloaded the Rex converter from the Propellerhead library but have
no idea how to use it?
Anyone?
Thanks!

I saw your post and have myself 3 Reason Refill CD's I'd like to be
able to convert to use with EXS24 as well, in a G4 PowerMac systemd.
Would you tell me the exact name of the app on Propellerheads site? I
did a search there for "REX converter" and found nothing.
Thank you,
Ernest

Refills are Refills and are for Reason only, at least the last time I
checked.. Dont think there is any easy way to grab them and use them as
REX files in another sequencer unless you could load the Refill into Dr
Rex and maybe export each individual REX file..
The REX Converter mentioned I believe is to rectify a problem dropping
old REX files into a particular version of Logic Pro..

You can't use the Refills with EXS, they (meaning the samples) can't
be extracted out nor referenced using EXS. There is a rumor of a
Refill extractor and I've seen it, but it's PC only and it doesn't
work too well anyway. I've never seen it nor experienced it to work
at all. I won't give out the link since it is not PHead's intention
that Refills be extractable, plus it would screw up certain people's
copy protection scheme.

The only way I was ever able to get REX files out of Refills was by loading
them into
Reason, slowing the tempo way down (to make big gaps between the hits),
exporting the
loop as an aiff, importing that into Recycle, and creating a new REX file.
It only takes about
as long to do as it does to type this, though it sounds really complicated.
I had a (cracked)
version of Reason I used only for that purpose. Then I felt guilty about
having a cracked
version of anything and deleted the program.

I bought the EXS24 version of Clean Guitars yesterday and I am very pleased
with them.
I was at Kirk's studio yesterday pklaying this and all I can say is
"Wow!".
It sounds great in the cpu efficent EXS24 and Kirk has added a lot from his
upcoiming Ruby library. At these prices any EXS24 user should have this
library.

Jay,
How wet/dry is this product? Some of the demos I've heard are so over
processed that it's hard to tell. With regard to ambience, would you say
that this KH product is dry like VSL? As wet as EWQLSO Gold? I realize that
this is hard to describe, but please try. I'm definitely interested.
Thanks,
-Mark

Hi Mark.
maybe I can help. I did one of the demos on Kirk's site. It is
neither wet or dry but somewhere in
between. The samples were recorded in a "FAR" position but have
to
trailing reverb apart from a little
on pizz and staccato sounds. Otherwise you can safely put your own
reverb on it.
The demo I did had some tweaking done by Kirk. I would have done it
differently however so I can see where
it might be hard to tell.
Thanks,

Chris beat me to it! (Nice demo, btw, Chris.)
Yes, wetter than VSL, dryer than EWQL which IMHO makes it a great library
either by itself or to blend with others.

I couldnt agree more. I really realy wanted to be impressed by
the sound but wassnt. Although I own EWQLSO and VSL I'm always
looking for something else to add to the mix but it just didnt grab
me. The IDEA is totally awesome though, a light processor weight
orchestral library for the EXs24 that is cost effective and (more
or less) complete.

Hi Terry
How do you like EWQLSO and VSL? Do you prefer one or the other?
How are they on the processor load, do you use multiple computers or
run all in one box?
Thanks!
