You don't have to move anything: the EXS samplers you'll build will directly
reference the samples wherever they sit.

Yes, but when I open a new ESX sampler on a track & open the pop-down
menu to select a
sample, I do not find the folder mentioned???

That's where you find the .exs instruments, not the samples. You have
to build and instrument first.
Click EDIT, and the editor will open. Create a new Instrument, then
and new Zone. In the blank box, click it and a Open dialog will
appear. Choose your sample on that, then save the instrument.
One thing though - AIFF files may be compressed or non-compressed.
Many iTunes AIFF files, if ACC, are compressed and I'm not sure EXS
will like those.

Thank you Garth,
I'll give this a go and get back to you, if that's ok?
Thanks again.

Hi there, I have tried to consolidte sample libraries etc and in doing so I
am unable to load any sounds into my EXSP24.
Can anyone tell me where the instrument files should reside as well as the
sample library?
Im running logic 6.
Thank you
John
Hi folks!
Could any one help me find a good kalimba sample-set?
Or any similar instrument [kalimba being the Kenyan name] also known as
agidigbo, malimba, sanza, mbira, karimba, ikembe, likembe, or finger harp
and thumb-piano in Western countries...
I'd also be interested by a balafon sample-set (the balafon is an African
xylophone).
I already use some commercial products, like the world jam pack from Apple,
but I'm looking for more genuine (meaning, not westernized) instruments.
I guess packages like MOTU Ethno must have kalimbas and balafons available,
but I'm not ready to fork out the big bucks without even knowing how they
sound!
Note: of course, I tried a few soundfonts and was disappointed by the lack
of velocities available: a good kalimba should have at least 3 velocity
layers to render the different plucking strengths or technics, and provide a
specific layer for the characteristic buzzing effects produced by wrapped
tongues.
If you got any good sample-sets of these instruments, please let me know,
even if it's a commercial package!

The old Heart Of Africa and Heart Of Asia discs have some very useable
sounds. They are from the 32 meg sampler generation, so there isn't an
abundance of multi velocity layers. But they do have the buzzing and
other articulations mapped out in sample sets. I think it's Heart Of
Africa vol. 1 that has what you are looking for.

Thanks: I knew about it already... Unfortunately, at $299, this single Akai
volume isn't cheaper than the Ethno package... and still no way to find out
wether the instruments are playable! That's a lot of money for a handful of
kalimbas!

Moreover, I've read somewhere that Apple had borrowed a lot of this material
for their own world jam pack.
But thanks for that suggestion, anyway.
Hi
We're using Logic/Macbook Pro. We have a loop cut from a tune and the
same loop backwards. We want to apply different filters to each of the
2 loops, using just one instance of the EXS 24.
How do we do that?
Thanks So Much!!!!!
Bradley Fish
www.bradleyfish.com
That's not possible with the EXS. There's only one multi-mode filter
per EXS instrument. You'll have to either make one EXS instrument per
loop, or use the same EXS instrument on two different tracks, each
track having a different Logic filter effect called up.

If different filter TYPES, no. Only one Filter per Instrument (that
is, instance).
But you can alter the cutoff and rez (and filter envelope parameters,
on 7.2) on a per Group basis, so if it's just different settings you
want, then yes, it's doable.

I don't think I am understanding the "save setting as..." menu on
the exs
GUI. Here is what I am trying to do:
After creating a viable instrument, let's say violas with a mod wheel swell,
I then save the setting as "modSwell". Then I load up some
cellos, and want
to apply the "modSwell" setting to the cellos. When I load the
"modSwell"
setting, the whole viola instrument, along with the samples and everything
gets loaded, which dumps the cellos I had up, as if instead of simply having
saved the setting before, the whole instrument got saved attached to the
"modSwell" setting.
So how can I save a setting, and then later apply it to other instruments?

Yup - that's the way it works. The save settings as command functions
with both the front panel settings and the samples in tandem.

I think the only way would be to make a template with no samples
loaded. Ten when you call up the "settings" preset - load the
samples
in after. It's not really very practical for complex sample mappings,
but it's the only way I can think of.

Hi Kirk -
Yes, you're correct, when you save an EXS "Setting" it's attached
to
the Instrument (complete with samples) that it references, so when
you load the Setting the Instrument/Samples are also automatically
loaded. To apply a Setting to a *different* Instrument, you have to
do the following..
- Save a Setting you want to re-use (Let's call it Setting A)
- Load up a different Instrument you want to apply that Setting to
- In the Options submenu (right side EXS GUI) choose the menu option
"Delete settings from instrument"
- Choose "Save instrument as" from the same submenu and give it a
new
name (let's call it Instrument A)
- Load Setting A - this will blow out the Instrument you just saved
(Instrument A), but that's ok
- Now load Instrument A. Normally this would blow out the Setting
and Instrument currently loaded, but since you just saved Instrument A
with no settings, only the Instrument will be blown out, and the new
Setting (Setting A) will remain loaded along with Instrument A
- Now you can save the settings from Setting A to Instrument A
via the EXS GUI Options submenu with "Save settings to
instrument"
- You can also save this new Instrument A with Setting A as a new Setting,
with "Save Setting as" from the Settings submenu (left side EXS
GUI) -
this will create a Setting which references/loads Instrument A
Yes, it's a bit of a kludge, but it's easier to do than to describe -
once you get the routine down it's pretty quick.. Perhaps someday
Apple will implement the ability to load *just* a Setting without its
associated Instrument, which would make this process less
ass-backward.. ;-)

This does not work. I tried it over and over again, but it simply does not
work. Honestly, just writing my setting down on a good old fashioned piece
of paper and entering in the values is WAY faster than the lame system
employed here.
However, I did notice that the PREVIOS instrument saved does seem to be able
to be loaded and then have the settings apply to it. Truthfully, the whole
system is too buggy to be reliable, so the best thing to do until someone
intelligent fixes this, is to simply create worksheets. Very painful!

Kirk, in Translator, there is a "Apply Settings to EXS
Instruments"
under EXS Utilities. This will take a Settings chunk in a EXS file
(the modulators, filters - everything that comes up under the space
editor, not the EXS-24 Editor), and you can apply it to another
EXS-24 instrument or a folder of Instruments. So every .exs file will
have the same modulators, filter settings, etc.
It's not in the current build, but it's ion a private one that I can
steer you to. Email I'll let you know.

We are having the same problem! Its a mystery to us why some sapmles in
reverse loop smoothly and some cut out.
Thanks to all who responded on our last post - anyone know about this
one?

Get Khso Emerald for EXS24 at the pre-release price now ($275.00) and save
$50.00.
I am very excited with developing the EXS version of Khso Emerald! All you
Logic users can now get an affordable big orchestra without having to buy a
sampler! (Thanks for pushing me, Jay Asher!)
At the time of posting here, Khso Ruby is still in development. While Khso
Ruby will most likely be available only for Kontakt 2, I wanted to make
portions of it available in Khso Emerald for EXS24. Part of what is making
Ruby sound so good is the inclusion of complete and flexible release trigger
samples for everything. Therefore, these release samples will be included in
Khso Emerald for EXS24. This means that the EXS24 version will actually be
bigger in size than the Kontakt 2 or Giga versions of Khso Emerald currently
shipping. I'm projecting a first release date of approx. Sept. 15. There
will be a lot of instruments in the package, and more to come. I will always
provide FREE downloadable .exs files at www.kirkhunterstudios.com as well.
