I've tried it on the "OLD LADY Fixed 2755" without success - the programme complains that "Differences were detected for 668 zones". If I fix them all these samples (most of which are below C3) no longer play at all. I'd love to hear from others how they fixed this problem... -- with best wishes, John http;//abram.ca

thank you, I am on the right track. I have like thousands of individual sounds. Like for instance, I have many folders, like a "piano' folder with all piano sounds. I don't really need to stack the sounds. I want each sound to come up in a list, and be able to choose the sound. does anyone understand what I'm saying? Is it possible to load folders of sounds? I hope I'm explaining it right. thanks. sorry if my questions seem dumb.

I got the same results as you and thought it stuffed it right up, but then I thought about the alchemy that working with software can be sometimes and I decided to save that (668 zone fixed) version of the Old Lady. Then I selected a different patch and proceeded to load this new Old Lady, and voila, it worked perfectly. So, to answer your question: Do what you did, save, reload new Old Lady. Tom

I've suggested the same thing twice already to you. BTW, you are posting to the wrong list - this is being forwarded over to the exs-users@yahoogroups.com list where i am answering it. Use the "Load Multiple Samples" option under the Zones menu in the EXS-24 Instrument Editor. This will take whatever samples you choose and map them like you want, or at least close to them.

Subject: System Overload - Core Audio problem?
Message #15232
MAC G5 Dual 2.5 Ghz 2.5GB RAM one internal 250GB hard drive dedicated to sample playback OS X 10.4.5 RME DIGI 9652 Audio Card - Buffer 512 (also tried 1024 no big difference) LOGIC 7.1 EXS Prefs: Sample Storage: 32bit float, everything else set to normal/medium Hello, I'm experiencing problems with the playback of more complex samples in the EXS 24. I loaded in about 30 complex samples (sustained strings (Sonic Implanst etc.) but used only let's say 10 of them. When playing back I always get the 'System Overload' message - sometimes to an extend that it stops playing right after you hit the space bar. I think it has to do with the fact that those samples are to complex for the EXS to handle. Could that be true? I'm also loading (but PLAYING BACK) three Culture (Yellow Tools) instances and some other 3rd party plug-ins. Freezing of course helps, but why? It's a quite fast machine and I'm playing back just 15 tracks MAX. When looking at the voices used in the EXS it never reaches the maximum voices assigned. The audio performance is normal - the disk i/o is less than moderate. Also, what happens frequently with bigger samples is that even though the # of voices used is way less than the #assignes sustained chords would stop abruptly when other instruments kick in... Could it be that LOGIC doesn't like it when you load in 40 memory intense samples (even id you don't use them)? I know that LOGIC can only handle 2.7GB of RAM so upgrading the RAM wouldn't help either... Thanks for all your suggestions Best Patrick

It can handle 2.7 - 3GB of RAM if you have at least 4.5GB installed, probably 5. So it would probably help quite a bit, in fact I suspect that's your problem: you have so many samples loaded into RAM that your system is using virtual memory (meaning the hard disk). That assumes you have the EXS' virtual memory turned on, which means disk- streaming. If that's not it, I think you have to watch Activity Monitor while you're adding these instruments one at a time to see what's breaking the camel's back. I'd also try using the built-in audio so you can rule out it being an RME issue. I bought the Vintaudio group buy package and can't get some of the disks to copy. They get to a certain point and stop. I exchanged emails with Franky from Vintaudio who suggested I try another machine. I did so and got the same results. He was very responsive till I told him I had tried it on a second machine with the same results and now I haven't been able to get a response from Vintaudio in several subsequent emails. Anyone know how to reach them directly? Thanks for your help Shawn

Yes. ExsManager. 80 Euro for the pro edition and worth every cent. http://www.redmatica.com/ Basically you put your instruments and samples somewhere and tell ExsManager where they are and where you want them to go. Take the time to learn about the options and do a couple of runs to see how it behaves. Many people use it. ___ Peter Ostry

Subject: Bug with instruments from Realsamples.de ??
Message #15247
Hi, a Strange thing happens when I try to use a preset (paid-for) instrument: certain velocities don't play. This is an instrument that was created to work with samples that arrive with it on a sample cd, from www.realsamples.de (the "real drumes collection"). It was designed to play different samples for different velocities on a single note: for example: the note C2 contains 127 samples (zones)- each has a unique velocity assigned to it, from 1 to 127. in theory - it should play but in reality my EXS24 MKII plays only some values (49, 98, 116 and other random shit) while others don't!! (53-97 range etc.) Can someone help me? what's going on with my exs?? thanks, Yaron. Setup: 2.66 GHz PC, XP Pro, 512 RAM, Logic Audio Platinum 5.5.0, M-Audio Delta44 sound card, HP printer, Canon Scanner.

I am not really Windows user (Logic 7.1 on Mac OSX), but I've recently installed a 5.5 Logic audio on my wife's PC, for her to start on the wonderful world of virtual music :-D I noticed a huge latency when playing on an USB keyboard with the PC internal sound card GM set. I did'nt success to correct (but I don't know all the mysteries of Windows) and could passed by the problem by using an external sound device (a Korg 05R/W) connected with a MT4 - did'nt tried the joystick connection), so it is now playable. I can eventually have some other tests ? -- Gérald
