Not sure about the S5000
but try this
Open an EXS and inside of it you can import AKAI
not in front of my rig but in the editor there is a tab that says
import AKAI samples.
Good Luck

Greetings All,
Any recommendations for realistic sounding/feeling string section
sample sets that won't break the bank (under $300)? Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance! John F.

CDxTract is much more reliable. For MAC, Translator is NO a choice...

That's like asking how to get your VW Beetle to go 100 mph. Answer: get a
faster car.
An older sampler is not going to read a newer samplers disks by itself.
There are conversion softwares that can do that type of thing (such as the
"NO CHOICE" Translator software), but both those are so old that
none of
them support that and it's unlikely that they will.

Well, they can choose it if they want to. =)

I tried Chicken Systems Translator a year ago and it completely
failed on my OS X system. I was translating from Sample Cell, not
from Akai so maybe it would work better for you. In addition to
incorrectly translating the instruments with major errors making the
instruments unusable, it corrupted my original Sample Cell
directories (where the translated programs were also being saved) and
I had to restore them from a backup after using the program.
On the plus side, their tech support was responsive and seemed
motivated. They made a good faith effort to fix the problems and
even sent me several updated versions of the application, but they
were not able to fix it. They told me that the program worked fine on
Windows and that they were having trouble porting it to OS X. I
don't use Windows so did not test that.
Eventually I gave up on the repeated installing of new versions and
sending them reports of the problems so I requested a refund. They
did issue the refund, after multiple reminders by email and phone
over a period of three weeks.
That was a year ago. Maybe by now they have fixed their problems
with OS X. However if you decide to try their OS X version, make
sure to back up all of your sampler source files to a separate drive,
and test the translated files in detail before depending on them.
Good luck!

I have used Chickensys Translator on MAC to convert my Emu EOS samples to
WAVs and it worked beautifully. I assume it will work equally well with
Akai files.
Kind regards,

Hello Gio, that only works with older Akai formats unfortunately.

Garritan Personal Orchestra?
The "Ensemble" function is somehow strange but for small sections
one
can use solo strings too.

Yes, the Akai Import inside EXS worked very well for
me.I had to fix one (1) loop after importing a
complete library from CD Rom.
CDextract worked very well for me . Sometimes you have
to go back an re-import or re-convert a single program
when you do a complete CD in one go.

Logic Pro 7.1.1/OSX.3.8
I have an external firewire drive with a few commercial libraries. The
EXS sees most of them fine but there's one library that's invisible.
The manual says "Instruments must be stored in the Sampler Instruments
sub-folder of the main Logic program folder". I don't have one... On
main drive>Applications I only see the bare app and Waveburner.
What gives?
I tried to put the renegade library alias in to main
drive>Library>Application Support>Logic>Sampler Instruments but
got a
message that the Sampler Instruments folder cannot be modified. I also
tried to put it in to main
drive>users>"me">Library>Application
Support>Logic>Sampler Instruments but the EXS doesn't see it.
Please note that I've been using this library for over a year without a
problem. I was recently forced to wipe the main drive and reinstall the
system and everything else. I've had this problem only since trying to
get things back to running
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You just missed the $200 closeout sale on Garritan
Orchestral Strings. You could contact Gary Garritan
and see if he has any copies left.

Well you put it in the right place. It does belong in
the user ...folder and not the Mac...folder.
Why EXs doesn't see it i don't know. Have you tried
EXS Manager? They offer a trial versioin that will
work for a smaller library. If not, you could purchase
the full version. As an alternative, you could try the
project manager. Most here consider it a joke, but i
have succesfully used it in situations similar to
yours.

Another thought. Last time i had this type of problem
I had to do something strange like put the instruments
folder within a separate folder and then put that in
the "sample instruments folder". I know it doesn't
make sense but if I remember correctly it worked.

Thanks Peter. I was all set to jump on the GPO until I learned that it
requires an XP operating system for PC. I am running Windows 2000 w/SP 4.
Although I have been successful in running other XP-only devices on this
system, I spoke to Gary Garritan directly and had an e-mail exchange with
someone else from the company and they both said that there was no guaranty
that the GPO would work with my system.
If there are any users out there with the identical platform running GPO,
please let me know what your experiences have been.

Thanks James! I am in the process of trying to determine if it will be
possible to use the GPO on my Windows 2000 system.

I have a program from ROLAND on a single floppy disk
which is called "SYS 505 Library Converter"which does
exactly what you are looking for. It converts
S-550/330
Sound Disks into S-50 Disks and allows creating your
own patches too. It's a little tricky but comes very
handy after a while. The manual i have is in german
only but i am shure you can download it from ROLAND's
Archive site.
If you send me a self stamped/self adressed letter I
send you a copy of the disk.
Send it to the following address:

Try opening up the Project Manager, and have it re-scan all the folders that
you have designated for your samples. Sampler Instruments & Actual
sample files.
My set up is not the standard set up. I've also got an external drive for
which I've taken Alias' of the folders there and copied them into the boot
drive's Sampler Instruments folder: "BootDiskLibraryApplication
SupportLogicsampler Instruments".
There's a possiblity that your Project Manager DB file got tweaked, and
needs re-building
Good Luck... Any by the way, if you have a lot of samples, I mean up to and
over 100 Gig worth, the Project Manager scan can take hours.

I was suggesting GOS not GPO. GOS predates XP and I
would be fairly certain it would work fine on Win
2000. The problem is it may no longer be available.

Thanks James. Since it appears that I will not be able to go with the GPO,
I will inquire about the GOS set.

James,
I e-mailed Gary Garritan. The GOS is not available.

Has anyone tried MOTU's Symphonic Instrument? I've not seen a review
yet, so I would be interested in knowing what people think.

This may be more money than you want to spend, but you could try Sonic
Implants Symphonic Strings Lite:
http://tinyurl.com/o3qwf
It comes in Giga 2 format, which you can then convert with the EXS (or
Translator or CDXtract). The only problem is that you have to use a Windows
PC to unpack the compressed files.

For $179 you can still order the GOS lite Akai version, which you can
convert in the EXS:

Still a great value. I used it for a couple of years before upgrading to the
full GOS library.

Sorry to keep adding messages, but I now see that the GOS lite library can
still be ordered in the Giga version as well:
