Subject: Editing multiple zones in EXS24 just works with some parameters
Message #15153
Seems to me editing multiple zones in EXS24 just works with checkbox parameters and the "group" parameter. Is this correct or have I just missed how it works? I have tried this: 1. Select multiple zones, using shift+click or command+A. 2. Edit a parameter in one zone holding down alt. In some parameter boxes like "select range" the parameter will indeed change but only for that zone altough I'm holding down alt. In othe parameter boxes like "pan" the parameter won't change at all when holding down alt. Posted this in the wrong forum (Logic users) earlier, sorry.

Subject: [EXS] OT: French petition re Internet and music
Message #15159
To all forum visitors, This is off-topic but a big musical issue which affects us all. I hope Admin will allow this post. SACEM (the French society for Composers & Authors) has launched a petition to protest against a draft law regarding music and the Internet. They write: APPEAL FOR SIGNATURE AGAINST "THE GLOBAL LICENSE" FOR CULTURAL WORKS ON THE INTERNET Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the Parliament, At the time of the study of the draft law " Author's right and neighbouring rights in the information society" some of you have voted on december 21 for an amendment equalling any downloading of cultural works to private copying ; thus opening the way to a lump sum remuneration (called "Global License") for the creators and all those who bring life to creation. Although it seems essential to permit the Internet to offer better access to creation and to respect the freedom of Internet users, we cannot accept this at the expense of authors and artists. Should it be confirmed, this provision would be: * unfair for the creators insofar as their remuneration would virtually disappear, *inequitable in the distribution of the revenue because the plan calls for a distribution based exclusively on "surveys", which would exclude lesser known authors and artists, *disastrous for the financing of creation and new talents' as it would lead to the disappearance of legal sites, * fatal for the diversity and the renewal of the French musical works. France is the country which has invented the author's right, the Parliament cannot assassinate it. Therefore we are solemnly asking you to reverse this amendment. [/quote] Please visit this address and sign the petition: http://www.sacem.fr/petel/fwk/main.jsp The text above is the text of the English translation download on that page. When you have entered your details, click on the Valider button to submit your vote.

Hi, came across some old CM (Computer Music) discs and found in issue 79, Nov '04, there were given away some scaled back samples from the Garritan Personal Orchestra collection. Wondering if anybody ever created some EXS intruments for the samples? I've searched here and the Garritan forum with no luck. Thanks! -Russel-

First my apology for replying dayz later from your inquiry. I find that it's important to keep all your Sample Instruments (.exs files) on the same volume. I had the majority of my purchased and shareware.exs files on one volume, and place an alias of that into my libraryapplication supportlogicsampler instruments path and in there was all the Apple ones (numbered)... Whenever switching from sample instrument to sample instrument I would get messages about missing this .aif file (while they were in a folder and listed as a scan folder in Project Manager).. To remedy this I took all the Apple Sample Instruments (folders 1-41) and copied them to the other volume where all my personal ones were. I created a folder on that volume called "Logic Sample Inst", made an alias of that and copied it back into the libraryapplication supportlogicsampler instruments path. All fixed... Good Luck!

Subject: Sampler Loops that are in time
Message #15165
Hey all - Joe here, got a question. Is there a way to load loops into the EXS24 sampler that can be triggered from the keyboard but they will adjust automatically to a song's tempo? I've converted a lot of loops into Apple Loops format and that's great but I'd like to have a lot of loops under my fingertips so I can check them against an open song, at that tempo. Is this a REX2 issue? Any thoughts greatly appreciated. thanks, joe

VSL, Sonic Implants Symphonic Strings, East West Quantum Leap Symphony Orchestra, and then the smaller libs: Kirk Hunter, E-mu, Dan Dean, Garritan, IK Multimedia's revamped Miroslav Philharmonik, possibly the new Peter Siedlaczek Advanced Orchestra...all those are worth looking at. And none of them only have CB on its own as far as I know. Subject: Slivers of an insturment
Message #15170
I want to create a keyboard sound by chopping the piano's attack/release off (or possibly just the sustain and release), leaving just a sliver--a more percussive affected sound. Any thoughts on quickly and easily creating a sexy slivered instrument--should I just use the amp env? Because so far my results with that have been less than SLIVER-y. What are my alternatives to going in and individually editing each sample then creating a new instument? Ultimately, a technique that would extend to other insturments would be helpful.

In the EXS you can change the sample start and set the attack and release to zereo. I guess you have done that already and it is not enough. There is a plugin called "Enveloper" in Logic. Maybe you can use a chain of envelopers to cut the start and end more or less drastically off? The parameter range isn't very large but maybe you can get what you want after multiple passes. ___ Peter Ostry
