Well, there always just moving it, then letting EXS find the samples as you
load them in. make sure EXS is set in Options to look in all volumes.

I too am having a problem with this library but it is
for different reasons. I have Sean McCoy's converted
EXS instrument files in my lib/app
support/logic/sample instruments folder. The .gig
files are on my sample drive but they are not
converting from there. Do i have to move them into the
sampler instrument folder for conversion? It seems
like I should be able to have them with my other
libraries on my separate sample drive.
What am I missing here?
Thanks, JP

Hi James,
The .gig files are like archives. The samples cannot be read directly
from them. Yes, you first have to put them into your sampler
instruments folder and then call them up. The act of calling them up
from within the exs will convert them to a native recognizable format.
Once they are all converted you can trash the .gig files. You won't
need them on your HD any more. And if you like, you can trash the newly
created Garritan sampler instruments and just use Sean's.

Thanks Eli! So if I understand you I need to put the
.gig files directly in my sampler instrument folder.
Then I have to load every single instrument
individually into EXS and then I can transfer the
newly converted files to my sample drive. I better
make a pot of tea.
Thanks, JP

Using Sean's EXS instruments, should the "giga convert
includes release trigger" be checked or unchecked in
the EXS preferences?
Thanks, JP

Yup, unfortunately. Some of the better put together libraries entomb
several instruments into each .gig file. So there are fewer but larger
files to convert. I'm not sure how the GOS library is done.

Exactly.

That's a really good question. Unfortunately I don't know.

It's been awhile now, but if I remember correctly, I did use the
"include release trigger" option when converting the .gig files,
but
none of the release instruments ever worked properly so I dropped
them from the EXS versions. Take a quick look through the EXS
instruments and see if any of them include "rel" in their
filenames.
That would be the clue---I could be wrong about this.
EXS expands .gig files into a default directory in the Logic
Application Support folder called "DLS-Giga Samples," but you can
create an alias of this folder to have the expansion directed
automatically to the drive and folder of your choice. This will save
you the hassle of having to move all the data after expanding. Also,
it would be most efficient to expand all the gig files first, then
trash all the automatically converted instruments and replace them
with the ones we did. If you already have our files in your Sampler
Instruments folder some may get overwritten or other confusion may ensue.

The best way to change lots of permissions at once (as with a folder
full of instruments imported from a CDROM or DVD) do this is to use a
free program called BatChMod.
You can download it here: http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
It's an easy to use frag and drop interface for a Unix script that
works more reliably than the Finder checkbox. For some reason when
you do it with the Finder, the permissions change back sometimes.
With BatChMod, they stay put.
This little program has solved sticky situations for me many times.

Hi Corinne
Just move the entire library to whichever drive you want
Just don't move the instrument files! You know just the audio wav files
As long as your instrument files stay in their normal place in the library
then logic will look for the corresponding audio files and link up
There was something ages ago that said make an alias of yopur libraries new
location and put it in the original libraries¹ folder
Personally I never have had to do this
I have all my Apple loops /BFD modern drummer etc wav files all together and
I have called this main folder sample library..Works very well
Now if I could only play more accurately!!!
I hope this helps

Sean McCoy converted and programmed the entire GOS for
EXS users. The files are available here:
http://www.garritan.com/GPO-LogicPage.html.
Good luck,

Just to clarify: I converted the great majority of the programs, with
special attention to the EXP instruments, whose 4-layer crossfades
didn't work at all in the automatic conversion. Instruments that
didn't translate well (such as Giga filtered and release programs and
those that required both modwheel and key switching) were ignored
altogether. Kevin Rix tweaked many of my programs and added several I
hadn't gotten to, so the set is pretty complete.
Did anyone ever locate the Maestro Tools Environment? Was it on the
DVD's? It's required for legato playing, and though I have it, I have
no idea where I got it!

Hello, I cannot use some old Wizoo samples that worked fine on Logic
Platinum v. 4.7.3 , now
I have Logic Pro 7 and I place the samples in the corresponding folder but
they canot be
used, any idea how to make the work?
Thanks
I'm looking for a acoustic guitar multisample that sounds realistic?
Is there any out there in exs or soundfont format I can buy? I'm
looking at plugsounds vol.2 I believe and soundscan vol. 50. Is there
any others out there I should look at? I really want a martin d28 in
the future, but that's gonna take ahwile. I'm tired of my presets in
my triton right now.
Also, tell me if there's any good realistic flute and violin
multisamples I can buy?
I wish I had the money to get the things I want right now, just gotta
do them with samples right now. Can't afford session players, motif,
and instruments.

The samples (wav or aiff files) can be anywhere. If the exs instrument
can't find them do a scan in project manager or get Redmatica EXS Manager.
The exs instruments must be in the right folder. This explains Logic Pro
7 folders on OS X:

You seem to play keyboard and guitar. Have you considered a special
plugin? You might have a look at RealGuitar:
http://www.musiclab.com
It sounds amazing natural and is built to be controlled by a
keyboard. RealGuitar 2.0 comes soon and will add some features but
the 1.5 version is great too.

A lot, in all price categories. Maybe you are happy with Garritan
Personal Orchestra, then you don't have to spend too much money:
http://www.garritan.com
Dry and wet samples, expression control, individual parameters like
panning, variation etc.
> I wish I had the money to get the things I want right now...
A printing press helps :-)

Check out the Hans Zimmer Guitar vol1:
http://www.ilio.com/spectrasonics/hanszimmerguitarsvol1/index.html
Unfortunately this disk is in the old Roland or Akai format, but you
can easily convert with CDXtract to softsampler formats.
Flute and violin: Vienna Symphonic is the top end.....

If you want a nylon string then I have a multisampled 24bit (every
semitone) instrument. Played with finger vibrato and velocity layered
slap so it has a bit more like than most. There is also an Elfolk
acoustic with built in amplifier and speaker (really) plus tremelo.
Also some flutes which are theoretically quite low fi (downsampled and
looped) but actually extremely useable, with and without vibrato.
Modwheel crossfades also.

I am sorry if you were cheated and got sold a cracked version with no XS
key - I hope not. If it is a cracked version you may find that after a
while the tuning goes weird in EXS so if this is the case it's not just
an illegal copy, but also a useless piece of software.

Hi,
By going Library/Application Support/Logic there is the Sampler
Instruments folder.
In the Sampler Instruments folder are the sampler instrument library
files in exs format.
I have no problem loading these into the EXS.
Also if going Library/Application Support/Logic there is the EXS
Factory Samples folder.
And in this folder are different instruments in aiff format than in the
Sampler Instruments folder.
I cannot load these aiff files into the EXS24 even if I put them into
the Sampler Instruments folder.
I haven't found any mention of this in the EXS24 mkII chapter of the
Pro 7 Plug-in Reference manual although it says that the EXS24 is
compatible with AIFF files.
Is this possible and if so, how is it accomplished?
Thanks for any enlightenment,
Jim

Those aiff files are the files that the sampler instruments are reading
when you load them in. You don't load aiff files directly into the EXS
24. They are referenced, or "read", by the sampler instruments.
That's
the way this whole architecture works.
