Seriously, when it comes to drums, I highly recommend getting something in
addition to the EXS. Battery 2 right now might be your
best bet.
I find drum mapping (especially velocity mapping) to be a way too laborious
experience in the EXS, and as the import function is
only covering a few, rather old-ish formats (which more than often enough
aren't imported properly, too), you won't have much luck
with existing libraries either.
So, to make use of the latter, you've got three choices:
- Go through the remapping nightmares.
- Buy a translator tool, such as CDxtract or Translator (having one of them
might be a more or less something like a must one
day...).
- Buy a dedicated drum sampler.
If programming drums is one of the main things you're concerned about (it
certainly is for me), I'd go for the last option. I simply
couldn't live without a dedicated drum sampler anymore.

Does anyone know of accurate sounding Wurlitzer electric piano
samples? (As opposed to the EVP88 "Wurlitzer" patch or the like).

Hi Sasha
I do a lot of beats and have been interested in Battery for a while but
I¹ve
heard that NI plugins have some compatibility issues with Logic/TDM.
Is it stable? What¹s your system setup?
Thanks

To be honest, I never used any TDM system, so I can't tell you anything
about that.
They're running fairly stable as AUs on the university's G5s (which I am
sort of maintaining) though.
> What¹s your system setup?
My private setup is still based on a Windows machine, mainly running Logic
5.5.1 (and I'm happy with it, too).

That might be true for HTDM/RTAS versions (I'm native now), but in
Logic wouldn't you be using them routed into ESB-TDM? If so, they
will be running native just like any other AU, no?
Btw, I'd also recommend Battery 2 for drums and single-hit samples
with individual settings.

Thanks for the detail Sasha. I don¹t know where I¹ve heard about
NI- Logic
conflicts with TDM. I¹m interested in Battery though so I think
I¹ll ask on
the Logic-TDM list.

The Scarbee W.E.P. is great. He sampled a Wurli 200A. You can find it
a Sonic Implants' website (http://www.sonicimplants.com). HTH,

Scarbee Vintage Keys. Amazing Rhodes, Wurli, and Clav. As I wrote in
my review in our current issue, it makes your keyboard feel like the
real thing. And for $100 more you can get a great keyboard effects
bundle that I wouldn't even think of not getting.

Hi, yes I agree that this is a great wurli but with one problem
unless I'm missing something this will not work on a Mac.
Please tell me I'm wrong. Thanks Wayne

Yeah well, unfortunately Donnie Chrsitians track count is as bad as it could
get. Great intention, exceptionally bad realisation.

Thanks Ned and all of you guys for the valuable input! I´ll be looking

input as well.

I'm wrong, that's great news however I looked around on the
sonicimplants site and there's only 3 files for the exs24 and in the
soundfont category there are a couple of files I'm interested in but
they have the .exe extension. Sorry for the confusion here because
this thread started out about the wurli and I'm confused about this
because a while back I found this site with the wurli and rhodes in
soundfonts and have now lost that link but was sure it was the same
product. It also was in soundfont format and would not work for Mac.
I know how confused this sounds but that's because I'm confused. I
also think the wurli was a free download or at least not too
expensive. Maybe it is the same guy and his product is now commercial.
The whole subject of soundfonts drives me crazy as I have some that
work perfectly and others that won't even open with sfArkXT for Mac.
Thanks Wayne
Hi folks,
As of lately there's been quite some discussion about drums, so I thought
I'd post this here. Some very kind soul named Salvador
Pelaez has made two drumkits available for free.
They're in HALion format but I'm almost done mapping the first kit for the
EXS (manually, *sigh*...), will post it in a bit.
But, as you need the original samples anyways, I recommend getting them
allready. Here's the link:

You will most likely have to register, but Spe3d/Peter (the dude running the
site) is a top bloke and you will never be harassed
with spam or whatever. Registering is as painless as it gets, too. Plus, you
may find some other gems up there as well. And you can
even share your music there, if that's what you're into.
As said, I'm gonna post the first EXS version later on.
Regards,
Sascha
I used Kontact a bit ago under TDM and while it worked on paper and I met my
deadline, at the end of the day I didn't find it to be very stable at all
and probably would be hard pressed to install it again. Your mileage may
vary.

Hi chaps,
There appears to be an issue with the amount/Max no' of EXS instruments
allowed in your EXS instruments folder. I am still on Logic 6 but could
anyone shed any light on this: Strangely enough they appear in the EXS
drop-down menu list within Logic but do not allow selection from this list.
My Sampler instrument collection appears to be too much for Logic..???
Thanks in advance for any light shed..

I have a light shed in the back of my house. It's a little house built for
putting in riding lawn mowers and such, I put a bunch of lights in there
for storage and now I call it my light shed.
j/k
Yeah, it's around 32,767 items that can be put in there. I'm not sure if
that includes .exs files and folder or just .exs files. I know people that
hit this limit and they've set up a shuttling system where they have 6-8
"sets" that they pull in and out via aliases.

Sascha, you are also a very kind soul for doing the mapping for the
exs24 this is a lot of work. Thanks so much, Wayne

Hi Sascha, I'm on a Mac with Logic Pro 6.4.3 and I downloaded the
drums and your maps and edited the names as you suggested. I also had
to change the outputs back to "Main" because I only have two outs
in
my MBox. Question? Do the names also have to be edited in the .exs file?
Also, should the sample folders be placed in a certain way? I got
cymbals only for a while but then placed the "Drum kit 1" folder
on
the main directory but now I get nothing. Sorry to be a pain after all
your efforts. Thanks Wayne

Nonono!
No need to do that. A) the patch will still load fine when using a plain
stereo EXS. B) You can use the imdividual outs inside
Logic, routing them into Aux objects (for the outs to appear in the Aux
objects input selector you simply have to load the EXS as a
multiout insttrument). That way you got individual (internal) audio
channels/faders for each of the individual instruments!

No.

It *should* work like this: Place the samples *anywhere* (beside your other
EXS samples or whatever), rename the ones with more than
31 characters accorinf to my descriptions, now load the patch into the EXS.
It should find them automatically after a while.
I'm sorry, can't recreate any Mac related here as I'm using 5.5.1/PC.
Will try things out on the conservatory's Macs one day, but right now
they're both used.

Sascha
