I'm the authors of one of those programs (Translator). Feel free to ask any
specifics to me at my email address.
In short, it's easy to convert a folder tree of EXS files to Reason format.
Just select the folder on the left, right-click on it, and select Convert
As... and select Propellerheads Reason. Then all the .exs files will be
converted into .sxt files (Reason). By default all the samples that are
referenced by the .exs files will be referenced by the .sxt's.
Also, if any of the .exs files include keyswitching or controller
switching, they will be separated out into separate .sxt files, since
Reason doesn't support these. As well, Release triggers aren't supported by
Reason, so they are ignored.
Of course the Free version can't do any of this, but the commercial version
does. And look in the Translator manual - the Help File; it has all this
information in it, under Basic Operation. There's several ways to convert
things in Translator, I just picked one of them.
Also, it should be noted that if these are commercial libraries, it may not
be in their licenses that he can use them. The fact that you are in the
same band may alter the situation somewhat, but please do consult the
licenses and do what they require you. Converting the sounds doesn't change
the license agreements.

hi
please can some one help me out. if i load a piece of drum audio into exs24
(could be a
loop .wav or sample from cd, doesn't matter), is it possible to auto slice
it and map it
across the keyboard. i know the apple loops tool can find the transients,
like recycle
(which don't have), but i want to assign each drum hit to a note on the
keyboard. i'm using
logic pro 7.1. or what's the best way to cut up loops?
thanks

No, don't use the EXS for this. Use Phatmatik Pro, or just convert
the loops to Apple Loops, they work great, but differently from
Recycle Loops. You won't get MIDI files when using Apple Loops.
Really what you wanna get is Phatmatik Pro. It rocks for this kind of
application and it's not too taxing on the CPU.

Help, I've got this great pianist in my and studio there's a slight lag
between when he hits the keys and when the notes are heard. I'm using a midi
keyboard thru mt4 on a G5 1,8 single Mac into Logic 6.4.3 - playing The Old
Lady Post piano in exs24...I thought there was a quick fix in the audio
hardware window in an earlier version of logic platinum. I checked the
manual but sofar to no avail...
Please guys - let me know a fix; this should be easy; am I losing my mind?
what have i overlooked?...my brain is melting...

Hi Micke,
What's not working with going to your audio hardware and drivers prefs
page and lowering the buffer setting to 128 or 64 (if possible)? Cause
that should do it.

Another thing, maybe you can try it also (it worked for me, since I
couldn't get lower with the buffer setting than 128, to avoid pops
and clicks):
Try if you can set the process buffer lower, also in the audio
hardware and drivers prefs,
default is: "middle" i believe, try "small"! It helped
me a lot to
increase the responsiveness of my System! No Problems, clicks or pops!

Sorry if this has already been suggested, but what if you were to assign the
hihats twice
within the same instrument (let's say an octave apart); assign each set of
hats to it's own
group; and each group set to one voice. You can get the polyphonic effect by
alternating
notes (Bb2 / Bb3) and mute notes when desired by triggering within the same
group. You
could also add a zone per group without a sample loaded for use as a silent
mute, instead
of using a closed hihat. If you want to get fancy, you could even alter the
pitch and or/pan
slightly of the second HiHat set to create a more natural feel. Or better
yet, use a 'b'
version (sample) of each HiHat assigned to the second group.

Well, this is just another workaround. It's also just partially polyphonic
as, in case you were alternating between your hats, eacht
third hit would again cut the first one (so on longer ringing samples it'd
again be insufficient).
Also, it's a plague to edit such patterns. I prefer having my individual
drum instruments on one key only.
Btw, the issue has been adressed in Battery 2, which I just got. It has
become a truly great drum sampler now (allways had some
complaints about version 1), I can highly recommend it. Until the appearance
of Drum 9 I will never use anything else for
samplebased drums anymore.

Sascha
I am trying to use the virtual instrument samples in Peter Siedlaczek's
Advanced Orchestra
collection. They have recently been optimized for EXS users and can be used
in Logic. But I
cannot locate most of the intruments.
I am using Logic Express 7.1 and I cannot find the Edit menu within the EXSP
24 window. This
is necessary because the various instruments have files originally based on
hardware
concepts that require you to press a physical key on a controller to choose
certain
instruments.
In order to see these keys, you have to edit the instrument in the EXSP 24
window from the
Edit menu. I can't find such a menu and I can't figure out how to get to an
sampler edit
window anywhere. I'd appreciate any pointers.

YOu can't see what isn't there, I am afraid. The EXSP is a sample
player. In order to be able to edit you need the full EXS24, which is
part of the Logic Pro package. You can upgrade from express to pro.

So that's what the P stands for. Thanks for this info. I kind of suspected
as much. I've been
putting it off, but I guess I'll have to face the inevitable and fork over
another $700 bucks
since the kinds of things I'm doing now obviously require the big daddy
version.
Meanwhile I just learned that the Garritan sample library can now be used in
GarageBand,
which is hardly Logic Pro but a great deal more fun. Wouldn't it be nice if
Apple could just
somehow merge all their music software in to something as easy to use as GB
yet with all
the bells and whistles of Logic Pro with an asking price under $500. Dream
on!
Thanks again,
Bill Boletta
Channelstrip|SP for TDM OS9 licence
I didn't manage to sell the licence with my last studio clearance, so
I'm offering this absolutely free (except postage if you want the CD)
This is the TDM Plugin mixpack v3.0 that came bundled with Protools 5.
I believe this can be upgraded to OS X TDM or OS X native
(You can also have any of the other CDs and manuals that came with this,
including D-Verb and Waves Supertap - will transfer licences if possible)
All I ask is that once the licence transfer is successful you make a
donation of whatever you like to the Red Cross Katrina fund. I have some
musician friends who have lost their house.

Has anyone downloaded the free Koestler Rigoletto samples from
precisionsound.net
It is a great sounding old pump organ, but they only released it
for Halion and Kontact. 99 samples 2 instruments 60 megs
If anyone has mapped it to ESX24 and would be willing to share that
wouldd be great.

Left column, next to the bold, red, italic "Free!"
Or http://www.store.precisionsound.net/survey_2005.php ;)
I downloaded the Kontakt version, but I'm actually more interested in
the free "Red Grand" toy piano nearby. I've needed a good toy
piano
before, and never did find a good one. But it's in SoundFont format,
so here be challenge #2.

Oops, my bad.
Anyways, they're asking you to file some survey to get you to the link (or
to send you a mail with a link, no idea), but when I
press "submit" all coming up would be a warning, telling me:
"Email" must be email.
Stupid. Of course I entered a valid adress...
I think I'd remap things for the EXS, but I haven't got enough time to deal
with stupid website scripts.

Why? The EXS is loading soundfonts.

the redgrand converts (trag the .exe to stuffit expander first) and
sounds nice&cool, but the koestler won't..
it has the .sfz files (2 of them) seperated from the wavs (they are
not included..)
I wrote precisionsound.net a mail and will tell you, if you don't
tell me before, how it will work in logic..
thanks for the tip..

The koestler converter fine for me, I downloaded the PSKR.exe file
and dragged it to Stuffit Expander which created a folder containing
the samples and folders containing Halion and Kontakt instruments.
The redgrand produced a .sf2 file which I wasn't sure what to do with.

put it in your user Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler
Instruments-folder and open it with exs24 - they will be converted by
doing so..

Ehhh the original message was, has anybody converted it to EXS.

I tried, but how does it work, to have release samples ? (in logic
7.1 pro / tiger)
I tried with one or two groops (pressed/released), but release won't
function the way I expect..

What about Rigoletto? Once that is opened, how do you convert either

EXS doesn't convert either of these file types. You need a third party
convertor; you can buy one, which probably is best in the best run, or you
can use a demo to do one conversion, if it allows it.
