To prevent the list from becoming too commercial in nature, we ask that any one person or company only post on-topic advertisements once every 60 days. Advertising any non-EXS related products will be considered spamming and will result in your advertisement being deleted, and your account being banned from the exs-users, logic-users and other related lists. Unfortunately we have no control over YahooGroup's own signature line. We have shortened the list's own signature, and to further reduce clutter we are asking all list members to not use an email signature of more than 5-10 lines. We also ask that you don't include too many links or advertisements, or anything else deemed offensive (such as political quotes). The list moderators will contact you at their discretion if there is a problem with your email signature. - Members who disregard these requests will be moderated and asked to correct offending messages before they can be posted to the list. - Sharing illegal samples on the list, or asking for people to trade with, is not allowed. EXS-related Mac vs PC discussions will be allowed on this list, though any individuals who fail to discuss this subject calmly and become too vicious will be removed from the list. *** All threads in this vein will need to remain on topic (directly relating to EXS). *** - We also manage several other Emagic-related mailing lists, all hosted by YahooGroups: Logic-Users, Logic-TDM, Logic-OT, and SoundDiver-Users. They aren't formatted for Akai, they are Emu format. How are you informed that they are Akai format? If they are Emu format, the Mac should be spitting them out, neither the Mac nor the Emagic convertor recognizes the format. Stupidly precise things these computers are... If they are Emu format, you can convert them into EXS-24 format using a third party convertor - CDxtract www.cdxtract.com or Translator www.chickensys.com/translator Garth Hjelte Sampler User

There are also versions in different formats each containing the same audio files, particularly (for us Logic users) a Soundfont ( 2 mirror sites, for fast and low connections) and a Giga version (containing 2 instruments with different velocity presets), that Logic converts very easily : just put the download files (or folder) in your Instrument folder, and open them with the Exs plug pop up menu ( needs to "refresh menu" first for them to appear there). They will be then converted : a new instrument will be created at the same place ; don't keep the original file : it will stay in the menu (eventually save it elsewhere for backup) and audio files will be put in the "Soundfont samples" or "DLS-Giga Samples" folder (which would be created if none existing), or aliases of these folders if youve done so, which place is depending of Logic version (Logic folder for L6 and User>Library>Application Support>Logic for L7). At the end, there are 4 slightly different instruments (velocity, Env 2 and out volume - didn't notice other ones) all made from the same audio files. -- Gérald RYCKEBOER ryckeboerg@...

Message #14496
Hi All: I just filled an external FW drive with samples, some 25 gigs worth, and am trying to get the EXS24 to see them. I've got all the sampler instruments in the correct folder on my system drive, but the EXS can't seem to find the associated samples. I tried switching the EXS preferences to "search external volumes" (or whatever the exact wording is) and "search all volumes", but that causes Logic to crash. I also tried doing a Project Manager scan of the appropriate folders on all drives, but that didn't help. Oh, and I just installed Tiger a couple of days ago. Any idea what might be going on? Thanks ~ mb

Subject: Folder aliases within instruments folders ?
Message #14497
I try to manage my instrument folders. I've still noticed problems with aliases but had'nt took time enough to deal with, what I've finally done today (tricky job ! ). So if at the end I now understand what happens, I don't find any solution : It's certainly not of the biggest importance but the solution (if any) or correction of that problem could be helpfull, quite more for big collections of instruments : EXS24 don't recognize aliases of instrument files. So for the purpose of organization of the instrument folder (as an example : an african log drum can be considered as - let's say - "percussion" and, at the same time, "african", or "ethnic") I thought to use aliases of folders that EXS seems to recognize but : actually when choosing an instrument in the pop up menu of EXS24 plugin, only the first item (found alphabetically in the list, according to the ASCII code I presume) of the folder (alias or original), can be opened. I made a lot of tests with the same result, so I try to give an easy to reproduce example which would be more understandable (I hope so) : For trial, you can create a (smartly named) folder "Trial" in the Instrument folder (so easy to remove), in which you create 4 different folders : 1-Folder 2-Folder 3-Folder and 4-Aliases In that fourth folder, put aliases of the three other ones in which you would have copy at least one ESX instrument file (not the alias), no matter which, just for the folder to be seen in the menu. In the EXS plug in, refresh the instrument menu first and open each folder within that "Trial" folder : you will see the instrument(s) in each of the first 3 folders, but in the fourth one, aliases will only show the grey name of the 3 other folders instead of open and show the instrument(s) inside. Well then rename "3-Folder" in "4-Folder" what will make it swap with "4-Alias" in the window list (if display is not with icons), and in the pop up Instrument menu of EXS plug in (after refreshing menu). If you try to open an instrument now, the 2 first folders will still show their instrument(s), the 3d one (which is now named "3-Aliases") will still show the same grey name for folders 1 and 2 but will then show instruments inside "3- Folder" alias, but so the "3-Folder" itself (now at 4th place) will no longer show its instruments. If you lift the folder "Alias" up in the list (by renaming it "2-Aliases" and then "1-Aliases"), the changing will continue the same manner, and at the end, when "1-Alias" will be the first of the list, the 3 folder aliases it contains will show their instruments, but the original folders no longer will do so. That's to say that only the first of each folder found alphabetically in the list (no matter alias or original) will open and show its instruments. I hope it had been clear enough, sorry for to be long. I've test in Logic Pro 6.4 and 7.01 with exactly the same result, but perheaps had it been still corrected in L7.1 ?. Or is it another way to do the job ? If no correction done, I think it may be a good idea to send to Emapple, but it's probably better to have other users advice first. -- Gérald RYCKEBOER ryckeboerg@...

Subject: [exs-users] Piano samples for the EXS
Message #14500
Hi Gang, OK, I'm getting repetitive of my tired old piano samples. I've overused the EXS's Yamaha Grand, which is a great patch IMHO. Also Old (and somewhat Tinny) is my Prosonus Steinway Grand (AKAI disk) What other great samples are out there that you guys would recommend for me to look into to spruce up my Piano library? I realize that a piano is a piano, but some different samples help the palate of colours. Thanks y'all Ciao Gio
