Ilio & Spectrasonics (among others) continue to release their latest stuff in Roland format. There are lots of S760 (etc) out there and it makes sense for us owners to buy CD-ROMS in that format. It would be great to have the added bonus of using these samples within EXS24, without having to go through virtual PC. Failing that, I wish CDXtract or Translator would move their butts and release a Mac version. Regards - Colin

I believe there is an option to view samples that have already been used during import. This may allow you to designate another zone for the same sample. -Jer > From: "yael" <yael@...> > Reply-To: exs-users@yahoogroups.com > Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2001 18:32:12 +0200 > To: <exs-users@yahoogroups.com> > Subject: Re: [exs] Same sample twice > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Tom Hammer > To: exs-users@yahoogroups.com > > Is it possible to have the same sample in two different zones. > If a sample is already used in a zone then it doesn't seem to be available > to use again. > tom > ********** > Hum, that's true ! when u choose a sample , it disappears when the list... > For the moment u can do it if u do a Copy of the sample with and add a > letter ( SnareA--->SnareB) ... > That's the only solution I can see .... someone else on that ?? > Igor > > > > > To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: > exs-users-unsubscribe@egroups.com > > > > Your use of Yahoo! Virtual PC on a G3 sucks. I hear the G4 does a good job with it. HOWEVER, Translator from Rubber Chicken has a light CPU footprint and runs easily even on the G3. The most irritating wait is the Windows bootup in VPC on a G3. Translator runs like a breeze once you're up. I really like the program BECAUSE it it so light a load on either a real or emulated Windows box. -Jer ------------------------- Apple PowerBook G3 400Mhz Mac OS 9.04 Logic Audio Platinum 4.7 384 MB of Ram (50MB dedicated to Logic) Digigram VX Pocket sound card (driver 2.6.0) Opcode MIDIport 32 with OMS 2.3.8 ------------------------- Jer Olsen, President Global Express Media LLC "The Mecca for Musicians" SECRETS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY DOESN'T WANT YOU TO KNOW! http://MusicProTools.com/ > From: Colin Shapiro <musos@...> > Reply-To: exs-users@yahoogroups.com > Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2001 01:05:15 +0200 > To: exs-users@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [exs] Re: Roland-to EXS-24 conversion > >> ....Still a little leery of Windows >> emulation for now.... > > Same here. > I wish Emagic would add native support for the Roland format. Go to Bitheadz and download the free Osmosis (mac) demo! You can convert 20 Roland multisamples (one per session) easily and use them with the EXS-24. Make sure your prefs are set to convert the program format to samplecell and the audio format to Aiff. Then drag the programs (or alias of the folder) to your Sampler Instruments folder. When first opening the sound in EXS-24, they will be automatically converted to EXS format. I'm sure that Emagic will improve the scope of their softsampler to exceed my Kurzweils (including Roland reading , streaming, and matrix modulation capabilities. Just give em a little time... Best wishes, Jeff F.

Converting samples is not a problem - I can import as many as I like with Transferstation (albeit one at a time). Does the Osmosis demo translate complete patches? If you're using Groove Control patches, you'll know there can be HUNDREDS of samples in a patch. Hi Guys, The Mac program by Bitheadz called Osmosis does work for a decent basic level of Roland to SampleCell/EXS conversion (including patches and performances). The only thing with Groove Control library conversion is that S-Cell has a 59 key split limit. This is one of the reasons that we don't support Groove Control products on SampleCell format. So if you convert Roland Groove Control files to SampleCell via Osmosis, and then open it up in the EXS, basically everything works except for loops that are four bars long and have over 59 slices/partials. So for GC it actually works about 85%-90% of the time...not bad really. Definitely a good way to go for the time being. (It is actually much easier in practice than it sounds). BTW, if you really want native Roland support (or any other format), you should tell emagic loudly. I could be wrong, but I don't believe that there are any plans to support native import of any other formats currently. It's probably speak now, or forever hold your peace! Send your requests directly to Germany if this is something that you see as essential, and explain why the other available solutions don't work for you. I recently found that if you (commandC) copy a zone with a sample already in it, and paste it(commandV) you can in fact use the same sample again AND I'm pretty sure you can set different start end points etc. I'm not 100% sure about the start end point thing, as i discovered this Towards the end of a long sampling session... anyhow give it a try and please report back, refresh my memory if it works for ya Kelly

Subject: Setting up EXS24 track definitions
Message #1437
Hey LUG, You guys may know this already.... I like to use features on the track's lower set of parameters, especially the track's delay definition. When you have a patch with a slow attack, like strings, you can set a negative delay there, and when it plays back, that will make it play ahead to make up for the slow attack. You don't have that feature with audio instruments, like the EXS24. Check this out: You can cable a "midi" instrument to that "audio" instrument, and then use the "midi" intrument in the arrange window, then you have all those definition parameters that a regular midi instrument has, including that track delay. You can make those slow attack strings play without having to process the track. I wonder if there's any downside to doing this. Anyone know? this is kewl, df

You don't have that >feature with audio instruments, like the EXS24. The extended parameters -- including Delay -- do apply to audio instruments in 4.7.2 I'm not sure how long this has been so. Delay is the bottom line of the parameters box for Audio Instruments and if you double click on the left hand side of the parameters box you get the extended parameters. What I miss is the range parameters ( eg C-1 -- G8) which I find very useful. Sascha Franck pointed out that to me that you could use the method you described to get them to work with an audio instrument (cabling from a conventional midi track object to the audio instrument object). This is a work around until midi features of AIs are brought up to par with conventional midi instruments. Regards, Murray

Nupe, not the same thing at all. This parameter which would be down with the "show inserts", "show eq", etc for it to work like I'm talking about. The delay is unique to each instrument and stays with it, you don't have to think about it anymore. I think you are talking about the top set of parameters(above the toolbox). I'm talking about below the toolbox, where the midi channel & drivers are. df

A-Playback is a splitter with each channel chained to the appropriate numbered track on the audio environment window. What you must do is set up a splitter for the Audio Instrument, one for the Bus, and one for the Master Outs. Then select the splitter in the arrange window your selected track. Record all automation on this track. Remember which splitters are chained to which channel strips in the environment. The more splitters you used, the more separation of automation data you will have on each splitter track. Good luck. It's actually quite easy. -Jer --------- > "tweakings" both to ES1 and the Autofilter, but obviously I want the > automation data for ES1 on the audio instrument track and the automation > data for Autofilter on a channel splitter/Bus Playback track. It will not be on the same track. It will be on the associated splitter track in the arrange window. Also, when assigning splitters to the Instruments or Buses, run the splitter channel to the corresponding stip channel (to keep things organized and less confusing). Use a separate splitter for each audio section: Audio (already there: A-Playback), Audio Instruments, Busses, Master Outs. All your "tweaks" will be on the splitter tracks in arrange, not on the Instrument or Audio tracks. You can use more than one splitter for each type, or even one for each instrument, just keep your numbers straight and name each splitter, that way all your automation data can be separated by instrument-per-track instead of all instruments or busses on one. > > Logic's default template be able to record separate automation data for all > of the buses? Does it depend on what MIDI channel that MIDI CC data is set This has never worked for me. I've had to set up splitters for the Busses. Only the audio tracks have a default splitter attached. I recommend copying "A-Playback" in the arrange, renaming it and chaining it to the desired strips. > > Ahg, okay, see, now I'm starting to get all confused again. Yes, but I don't know if you could do both at once or not. Remember you've got one splitter for the ES1 and one for the Bus. > > Please help us newbies -- I get the impression that this is a FAQ for many > Logic users, and I will probably write a tutorial on this very subject once > I get it sorted out. And Jer, mucho thanks for your help. Actually, it hasn't really come up, but it's important knowledge of how to use the environment. I never tried this, but try holding the Command Key while changing. You can change the One-Shot setting for all selected zones by holding this key down while unchecking One-Shot--a Godsend, amazing that it isn't documented!!! Message #1445
Hi all! I'm a longtime LUG member, but fairly new to this list. Over a period of time I have registered on this list (and the lug) that quite a few people wishes conversions of more formats e.g Roland. I think this list would be ideal to say to Emagic (politely) that we need some more formats converted please. Shall we set up a poll and maybe ask Joeri if he wants to be the messenger of an united exs-list wish? If we are enough we might get this throug. After the terrific success of the plug-in deal and Joeri's idea of more company people on this list, this could maybe be the way to show we are on topic and can get some wishes fulfilled. As I'm a Norwegian, please bare over with any almost English phrases. The settings in the parameter window below the toolbox are for individual instruments, and those settings are added into the tracks playback "parameters". You can transpose, you can make it non transposable, you can limit it's key range, , and you can specify the tracks delay, and it's now set for that instrument, you can forget about it now. Those settings are not shown in that tracks editors, the settings in the upper parameter window are. I'm sorry I must not be clear enough. I use those playback parameters to make up for instrument's response time, like slow attacked strings, really many things. AND, getting this stuff fined tuned like that, makes a humongous difference in overall sound and feel, I'm sure we all agree. Anyway, all I was saying was, that "playback" parameter feature is not on the audio instruments, like they are on the midi instruments, as a playback only effect on the track. So just cable an empty midi instruments to the audio instrument, don't need a midi driver assign to that midi instrument or anything. Now choose that midi instrument in the arrange window, instead of the audio instrument that you are using. It'll play through the midi instrument that is cabled to it. Including any settings in it's "playback parameter window". I hope that's clear, and was worth all this typing. I'm enjoying this Logic trick for my working style. that's all I got to say about that... df

I've been there before but can't find it. -Jer Yeah, http://www.belway.com/logic/ The problem is: I'm administrator of that site and as you'll see: it hasn't been updated in ages. I'll get back in touch with some folks I was going to work something out with to make things happen automatically. So, as Anders said, if this list can work out a nice list with "priority items" for the EXS and write that in a letter, I'll make sure it is given to the right people and I'll try to get a reply too.
