Thanks Colin,
that is very interesting. The apple guru's at my local Apple Store
seem to think that, even with Tiger, Logic can only access 2GB of
ram....the maximum that 32 bit applications can access. hmmm.

I can test this when I get home later this week on my 4GB system (I'm
about to upgrade it to Tiger and Logic 7.1.)
Even if the app only uses 2 GB, it would still be useful to have 4
which could be used for the OS, and other apps. If that is a
limitation, we could expect it would be a likely one to address in an
upgrade.
If I were buying a system today, I'd get 2 x 256 SIMMS that come with
it, and after a burn-in period, remove that memory and install 8 x
1GB chips from crucial.com.

Multiple applications is the key.

It's also a fantasy. :)

No, and Andrea from Redmatica explained this to me definitively,
including links to the Apple site.
Each program in Panther and tiger can access 4GB of RAM. If you look
at Activity Monitor with Logic (including EXS) loaded up to its
breaking point, you'll find it gets up to 3.17GB or so (that's the
max on my machine); the remainder of the 4GB is "overhead" and
doesn't show up in that figure, but it's being used.
You can't work at that point - about 2.5GB is a practical maximum.
That's still pretty good, because it's two Giga or Kontakt machines
plus Logic, and you can run other programs in the rest of the RAM. I
was able to run a Kontakt 2 outside Logic, but unfortunately the
processor load was too high at that point (since I had two Space
Designers open); I'm going to do some more fooling around to see
whether that can be made to work. Whether installing more RAM would
solve that (I have 5GB) is another question.
In any case, this is not 64-bit memory access. That's only for
command-line programs at this point; the GUI hasn't been adapted for
64-bit access yet.

Hi.
I'm happy to present:
SampleTekks Vertikal - The Piano Alternative
There are so many sampled pianos on the market today and you as a
musician have the benefit to be able to choose from the multitude of
different brands and sounds. Most, or nearly all, of the sampled pianos
are great, wonderful grand pianos like Steinway's, Bosendorfer and other
truly amazing instruments. But, sometimes you need something different.
Let's face it, you wouldn't choose Pavarotti to sing rock and roll,
would you? Also, you probably wouldn't let Robert Plant sing "La
Boheme"... Mind you, it probably would sound great in a way, but it's
probably not what you're after! Most of the sampled pianos on the market
today are "Pavarotti's", but if you want a "Plant"-piano
you don't have
that many chooses, until now!
The Vertikal is a upright piano recorded and designed to do the job when
you need that little extra "umpf" in your songs. It can be rock,
blues,
jazz, gospel or anything that needs the extra attitude. Shortly, when
you need something not that "grand".
The Vertikal has the normal SampleTekk standard, that means 16 recorded
velocity samples pedal up, 16 pedal down and 16 releasesamples. Also
included are inpulses of pedal down and instrument resonance to use with
convoluting reverb as Gigapulse or Kontakt 2
Vertikal will ship June the 15:th and wioll be priced $150.
VERTIKAL PREORDER OFFER!!!
If you preorder your Vertikal before June 15:th, you will pay only $99,
BUT if you are among the first 100 customers, you pay only $50!!!!! If
you are among customers 101-200, you pay only $75!!!! Check the current
pricelevel at our online store!!!
To buy or for more info, go to www.sampletekk.com

Again: the practical limit for working is about 2.5GB, including
Logic, as shown in Activity Monitor. Each program can access 4GB, but
you won't get readings of 4GB in A.M.; the max reading before
crashing was 3.17GB for me.

are there any good rompler libraries for the EXS24, something that kind of
mimics a hardware rompler, like a JV2080.

EXS limits the visible samles to 30,000 instruments. Really annoying. I
have a massive library and always end up shuttling sounds around as I need
them.

Thanks for replying. I don't seem to have nearly that many.
I think my problem is that I am new to EXS and I don't have the correct
hierarchy of folders
and audio files that correspond to the.exs instruments in the proper places.
I am trying to get it all figured out. Thanks for your suggestion.

You could try running the free EXS Manager demo downloadable from:
http://www.redmatica.com/Site/Pages/Download.php
It's got me out of trouble a few times.

Yes I guess I do. It's like waking up in the morning and having several
cars to choose from to get into. If its a warm summer day with a cool breeze
I
choose the convertible. It's just the better choice for the day at hand. I
write music professionally and I never know what a client will throw at me
today. So if I have several oboes to choose from I think they are getting a
better deal. That, and I have to admit I am a bit of a 'sound' junkie. :)

The best one right now is probably Quantum Leap Colossus. It has its
own NI player - not EXS.

but how will you remember that oboe # 18256 sounds a twink softer than oboe
#18257?

Hi all
Is there any way to convert some of my exs library to soundfonts
for use with dsl music device in Sibelius in OS 10.4? I have

What is the problem; meaning why doesn't it convert? On at least
Translator's part, feel free (that is, feeling free, rather than being
free, which is two totally different things - never mind, my mind is
spinning from seeing Star Wars)... feel free to send in the program plus
samples to Translator's Bug Report site (and no, that isn't the most
popular site on the web... =))

Following a musical idea that wants to arise, I don't see the purpose
of limitations built into an already paid application besides disc
space, just to sell an upgrade

Let's stop and think about this for a minute.
Now, why would Markus be annoyed? Does he get a kick out of posting
silly things?
Or could it be that he runs into this limitation, and maybe there's
something you don't know?
is it possible that this is a very real issue for everyone who has
the Vienna Symphonic Library (the full version)?

Following situation:
Let's say You create a simple song like this in Logic (my current version is
6.4) :
1st Track: EXS Instrument :Guitar - 4 bars
2nd Track: EXS Instrument: Piano - 4 bars
Iet's say you really like this and decide to copy it into a different song.
Of course you
want to keep the particular instruments.
I select those tracks and copy them into the clipboard. I load the
"different " song and
paste those tracks to a certain position.
Everything is fine with one exception: the EXS instruments are EMPTY. Guitar
and Piano
are gone .
Of course i tried to select those tracks ,created a folder and copied and
pasted it :
Same Results.
May be somebody has an idea how to fix this.
Thanks so much to all of you
Best
Markus
