Fair enough, my bad - the tar and feathers smell was my imagination.
I happen to know that he's been out of town, though, so there's a
reason he hasn't been answering tech support emails.

Hi, all,
I come to you guys with this question (as you've always been so
helpful in the past). I've got an upcoming project which needs to
feature folk/bluegrass music: acoustic bass, guitar, banjo,
violin/fiddle, washboard, etc. Any suggestions for some EXS compatible
sounds? Thanks so much!

Hello, all
I just heard about the new release from Natural Studios
http://www.naturalstudio.co.uk/
The drumkit, way cheaper than drumkit from hell, has 18GB of samples.
I'veenjoyed the
use of its freebie predecessor (thanks, Doug!) and would certainly be
interested in
supporting Doug Whates after all the effort he's put into this kit. If I
understand correctly
(and I may not), it will initally work with Halion. Does anyone in this
group know anything
about getting this kit to work in EXS?
Nick, you're the virtual instruments guru :). Any knowledge here?
Cheers,
Larry

This library is going to be released in Halion 3.1 format and it has 20,000
samples. I think you will find that EXS24 which does not allow more than 32
layers will be inadequate for some parts on this library.
Programs like Translator and CDXtract may go some of the way toward
converting
kits or perhaps kit elements but if you have to program from scratch the
hours
of work required to work with such a large set of samples is going to make
conversion to EXS24 fromat a real headache.

Hello Folks,
I need to generate the sound of a water droplet and, as usual, real life has
failed to make the
grade.
Until now I've used my ESXP as a sample player and nothing more, can anyone
help me get to
grips with generating a 'plop' that rises in pitch (particularly if it means
using the EXSP as a
synth, with no sample loaded)? I can only do it using the LFO, but it's pot
luck as to whether
the pitch is high or low at the time I hit the key.
I know this makes me sound like a bit of a dunce, but that's not too far off
the mark, so i can
live with that.
Any and all help v. much appreciated.

Try assigning the pitch to aftertouch and control the amount live; the
beauty of it: never the same thing twice, like a droplet should be.

due to excessive number of unused instruments in my Sampler
Instruments directory, i decided to remove quite a substantial amount
of instruments from EXS' option menu, however, i don't know if that
also removed the actual samples associating with the instruments. i
have used EXS Manager (for PC) to remove unused samples, but i doubt
it is capable of doing that.
can i please get some feedbakc on this and as to how i can free up
drive space by removing unused samples.

I actually think that EXS manager (the PC version) is pretty much capable of
doing so, but anyhow...

In your keycommands, in the EXS section you'll find something like
"backup all instruments". This will produce copies of all the
samples required for all your existing instruments.
Perform that operation, then delete the original folder and you should be up
and running with just the required samples.
You may need to reassign sample locations to the .exs files, but EXS manager
should do that perfectly. In case you prefer the manual
method, load an EXS, set up a MIDI command to switch to the "next"
patch (done in the EXS editor), insert that command into a
sequence and have it cycling for a while. Make sure not to move away too far
from your machine as the EXS might detect double
samples (you'll have to confirm which ones you'd like to use).

Hi Michiel. Good to hear from you.
Great news. Lot of us were waiting for this.
Didn't try it out yet, but I'm sure it will work.
Thanks.

Hi Michiel,
Thanks for getting back to us. I think there's quite a few here using
the Old Lady.

Do you mean command-A? option-A brings up Logic preferences.
Also, a couple of weeks ago you posted info about Old Lady updates on
your website.
Any chance of a link to the relevant page?
Thanks a lot

You can use the zone-menu function "select all" or the keyboard
command-
A.

We have a automated update website section here:
http://www.postpiano.com/support/listUpdates.php
Select the library you have (and the format like EXS) and you get a
page with all relevant updates and notes:
http://www.postpiano.com/support/allUpdates.php?id4
is the direct link for OLD LADY EXS
and
http://www.postpiano.com/support/allUpdates.php?id6
the direct link for EMPEROR EXS

Thanks for the info, Michiel.
Just so you know, the excellent SAM Brass collection had the exact same
problem (and solution) with their EXS instruments.

Greetings,
What's the status of the issues with the "Old Lady" piano samples?
Is this a
problem that everyone has, or did it turn out to be something platform or
sampler specific? Please keep us updated.
Thanks,

So you did mean command-A? Also there's no "Select All" in the
Zone
menu, it's in the Edit menu, sorry to nitpick but you have to with
computers.
I love the Old Lady and want to get it right.

EXS format consisits of instruments and samples
The instruments generally have the extension .exs, they go in your
sampler Instruments folder in the Logic app folder (earlier version) or
in the User>Library>Application Support>Logic folder on Logic 7.
There will also be some .wav (or maybe .aif) files, that go anywhere on
your drive.

May I just raise my voice to tell how incredibly stupid this new sort of
organisation is?
Seems as if nobody at Emapple ever heard about "never change a winning
team". The previous organisation of EXS patches in either
Logic or song subfolders was clear (well, as much as the EXS is clear at
all... which it certainly isn't) and understandable.
But I've seen countless questions about the instruments folders since L7 hit
the streets.
Fortunately I still don't have to face such nonsense every day, it'd drive
me mad.

People keep asking about this issue because they fail to understand
the logic behind OS X. I like it myself. Now whenever Logic is updated
we no longer have to drag our old EXS folders, Autoloads, Preference
files and so forth to the new Logic folder. Each recent version of
Logic knows where these things are found.

Hi all,
I'm getting ready to buy a new Dual G5 to run VSL on the EXS24. How
much of the 8GB that the box can hold can Logic access for the EXS.
I've heard that it can only use 4 gig and there's no point in having 8.
Is this right?
Thanks a bunch

I have to agree that now that I understand it better, I also like the
new organization. It allows for room to grow and to better manage and
accommodate larger libraries, multiple autoloads, templates, channel
strip setting libraries, etc. It can seem like a bit of unnecessary
complexity at present, but I have a feeling it will be invaluable in a
generation or two from now once we have all "grown into" all the
new
features and functionality.

Apple's site says this about Tiger:
Tiger also provides access to as much physical memory as you can
install in your PowerMac G5. Even 32-bit applications benefit from
the system's ability to access large amounts of RAM: The system can
manipulate data in multiple applications entirely in RAM for maximum
performance.
Perhaps someone can confirm if Logic/EXS24 takes full advantage or not....
