I'd love to hear it Sascha - if you do get around to posting it.
Anyone looking for more J Bass samples could do worse than the free NS
J-bass.
It's a ZIP archive which unzips to SF2 format which will import into EXS24.

For all who want to know which samples get actually loaded...
After Michiel Post sent me another Emperor disk I have now 16 and 24
bit samples. Since you cannot tell from the names which instruments
load which versions I set EXS Manager to maintain instrument hierarchy,
opened some samples of each resulting group to see which version they
are and finally renamed the two "main" instruments. Here is the
instrument structure I have now:
PMI Emperor
16 Bit
EMPEROR 12 vel dwn cntrl.exs
EMPEROR 12 vel up rel.exs
EMPEROR 16bit full.exs (original: "full")
EMPEROR no pedal.exs
EMPEROR vel up.exs
24 Bit
EMPEROR 8 layer sust.exs
EMPEROR 12 vel down.exs
EMPEROR 24bit full.exs (original: "V2")
EMPEROR release.exs

Will finish a Kontakt version of it first (so I can include them in the same
zip file). But hey, it's really nothing special,
recording quality is way less than pristine (made it when I was at my
parents place, running the bass straight into the Edirol Hi-Z
input, which is pretty much sub-optimal) and there's no velocity splits or
whatsoever... I somewhat like it though.

Yeah, the NS stuff is nice - their NS_Kit is pretty much worth a shot as
well.
Cheers,

Funny, I've sampled many many basses over the years. This one I keep
coming back too. It's quite a short sample looped and resampled to fit
ina small AKAI S1000 RAM reqirements many years ago but it somehow does
the trick.

Err? It doesn't say anything about EXS instruments at all.

Sorry I forgot to trim the subject line. My ISP uses Spamassassin to screen
all
mails and for some reason it gives a high "spam" rating to mails
with "Re:" in
the subject - it puts ??SPAM?? at the front of the subject so you can filter
the spam out automatically in your mail client. You need to check your spam
folder for the occasional false positive though.

In the subject, eh?
You should have a chat with your provider...

OK, uploaded the Musicman patch:
http://sascha.presetbank.com/
As said, don't expect too much of it...
- Sascha
OK got a chance to try these out - thanks to Sascha and Pete for the bass
samples - I'm sure they'll find a place in a tune or two.
Some nice programming on your exs patches Sascha - the Okt patch
particularly.
I have a rather bulky set of samples of my own Maton fretless with EMGs
recorded DI through a Sansamp Bass Driver. If someone has some webspace and
and FTP site I could upload to I could share those as well.

I can only offer uploading them for you. We'd have to arrange some mailing
for that (not sure how well my mail provider would deal
with larger attachements). In addition I could convert them to Kontakt
format.

Feel free to upload them to ftp.soundcentral.com/incoming - I'll put them
up on www.exs24.org
That goes for anyone wanting to upload sounds; just FTP them up there and
I'll put them on the appropriate area. Soon there will be a uploading page
on those sites.

Excellent, Sascha. Thanks!

Hi friends -- my first post -- I've been lurking and learning from you all
for many, many
moons, and I thank you for that!
I'm running L7, using the Opus 1 Orchestra samples from VSL on the exs24.
I just loaded into the exs24 an instance of one of the VSL viola section
instruments (I tried
several) and received the following window:
"File not found
Result code = -43"
No sound.
I reinstalled the instrument and its appropriate samples from the original
discs, rebooted,
and still have had no luck.
Any thoughts?
With thanks, and greetings from Toronto!

Hi Jim,
Scan your drives with Project manager. Or better yet, buy EXS manager from
www.redmatica.com .
Best,

I ran across something about this in the LUG archive a few weeks ago.
I have had "File not found" messages relating to fade
files...result
code 38. Never found an answer to that one. They wouldn't let me post
it here. It wasn't specifically an EXS issue....so I had to post on
LUG...no luck. You're right....this is a great list. but...I did
find an answer to your problem in the LUG archive....sorry....I can't
remember it....but it's there.

However, I don't think this is the answer to the original poster's problem.
I agree with the Project Manager/Redmatica suggestion as a first stop.
I have also had strange stuff lately with folders on drives other
than my system drive having "wrong" permissions which block access
to
files.
I solve this as follows:
Get info on the drive.
Near the bottom of the info window (above comments), check the box
which says "ignore permissions on this volume".
??? Maybe this will help.
Regards - Colin
I'm not very familiar with EXS nor Logic7 right now,
so I export the track as an .aif, open it in Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
create a fade within a blink of an eye and drag it back...
As for external discs, I had the internal disc replaced with a larger
Appleone, put the old one in a box, both discs are recognized as Apple, got
thepicture?
Anyway, in disc utility, formatting an external disc under OS X extended
(journaled) should solve the problem

I agree, it's a shame, after putting so much money in it, we still have to
waste our precious creative time in thinking about binary code and
compilers, is greed really good?
But don't u worry, in them Sawtoothtiger days there will come a solution,
even for musicians...
In the meantime try tihs:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/termslittlehelpe
r.html
There's even a list of translated error codes on Apple's website, sorry I've
forgotten where...
Thanks to all for your responses to my dilemma re: missing viola samples.
It seems that my viola section had snuck out for a drink at an unknown pub.
ExsManager
found them and escorted them safely back into the Exs24 concert hall.
Gratefully,
Jim

Always good to hear of a happy ending.
(Just keep an eye on those viola players.....)
I've done two new patches (new samples that is) of my Musicman. Seem to be
working better.
Patches and more info at http://sascha.presetbank.com/
