How cool
thanks Mark
Considering any halfway actual machine and virtual memory being present, the
ECO versions really aren't worth it anymore (I mean, they were made like 5
years ago).

While I haven't tried this yet, I have to say this is an awesome
feature! Translator just keeps getting better and better.
Oh I have to thank you once again Garth and let other users of
Translator know as well about a feature I requested awhile back for
easier organization of .exs programs when translating. You can add a
prefix or a suffix to your .exs programs automatically when converting.
For example, if you have the Wizoo Platinum 24 drums in Akai format,
you can have all of the .exs programs automatically be preceeded by WIZ
or with WIZ appended to the end of the name. If I recall correctly,
you can have 5 or 6 characters in total for each (prefix and/or
suffix).
Some people may be thinking "big deal". I found out (and I know
some
people have encountered this as well) if you have 2 different exs
programs named exactly the same (ie Rock Kit.exs), when you reload your
Logic song, Logic will load up only the first one it finds which may
not be the same. By adding a prefix or suffix, you can make it unique
and will always work. By using the same prefix/suffix for each of your
libraries, you don't have to go through and rename a bunch of your
programs or look for duplicates. I come up with an abbreviated name
for everything that I can use as a prefix. This way, I can have WIZ
Rock Kit.exs, YT Rock Kit.exs, and DFH Rock Kit.exs and always load up
the correct one.
I have found it useful and thought that it might help other people here
who also use Translator.

Anyone here using Sampletank & EXS24 without problems?
I load ST2 into audio instrument 1 (midi Ch 1) - I load in a piano
from sonuc synth - name it Piano
put an EXS24 sampler on Audio Instrument 2 (midi CH 2) - load in a
drum kit - name it Drums
In the arrange window I select Piano for track 1
i play & record piano onto the track
The recording plays back ok
In the arrange window I select Drums for track 2
I press play
I get ASIO : Overload message
I select Piano in the arrange window again
I press play
The recording plays back ok
The piano track will only play if its track is selected
If the piano track is not selected I get ASIO : Overload message
Result: I cannot play or record any other midi parts with the ST2

Does anyone know of any free belltree samples out there? I need one
for a piece I'm working on. I have one belltree sample from the NN19
in Reason, but it's mono and rather fast. I can use it, but I'm
looking for one in which the chimes are stroked rather slowly across,
and a stereo image would be ideal.
Any links or websites come to mind? I could buy one if it was cheap,
but I don't need a whole percussion collection.
Thanks in advance!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted questions on some troubles I was having
with some Spectrasonics AKAI -> EXS conversions.
Thanks for those that responded; it was helpful & appreciated. In
particular I want to mention Garth's help; for whatever reason, he
thought to check back into his records to see that I was a registered
owner of Translator (I've been in the throws of transferring over to a
new computer, and had forgotten about that), and he mailed me out an
updated OSX version before I even had a chance to respond.... and let
him know of my new address!. Well, long story short... today I received
(I'll assume a second) copy -shipped to my (new) current address!
I don't mean this to sound like too much of a plug, but we are so quick
(at times) to gripe about things today, that I think it's important to
take a moment and recognize when someone gives really good service. So
thanks Garth. Both for your help here on the forum, and from
Chickensys.

Hi all,
Just spotted it on the site. For those who have not made up their minds
yet this is a very interesting read.

Sorry for yet another ad, but IMNSHO it's really a must have, and I
have absolutely no financial interest in this, just LOVE the sounds,
nothing other than that.

Hi all, my first post here.
Does anyone ever have the problem of loading an instrument and receiving the
error
result: FILE NOT FOUND RESULT CODE = -42 even though all the files are
present and
properly mapped in the .exs file? Currently, my only solution is reentering
the path for
every individual sample which is very tedious and time consuming, and really
impractical.
These are somewhat customized instruments (consolidated sample libraries)
that have
been moving from drive to drive (from studio to studio). What is odd is that
mono
versions of the instruments seem to load fine while stereo always gives me
the above
result code.
Is there a way to have an instrument file 'rescan' for all the samples?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks,

Wally,
You can use the Project Manager to rescan your instruments. (Windows >
Project Manager)
In "Browse" mode, locate your instrument(s) and choose 'find used
files
for selected items' or
'find unresolved file references...' under the Functions menu.
If you are moving samples around regularly, you might want to consider
purchasing
Redmatica's EXS Manager, which is very useful and also faster than the
PM.

I don t mind at all that this sounds like a plug: Chickensys and redmatica
got amazing product support. Those people deserve all the publicity they can
get, because as oppose to many other company, they spend their time giving
support, not making publicity ! Get the GREAT job guys.

I think that for basses Spectrasonics' Trilogy should be a very good choice.
For pads there's a lot of choices I think. Again Spectrasonics comes to
mind, Athmosphere is basically designed to suit your pad needs, but IMO the
engine is a bit lame (most likely to be updated some day...).
Personally, I like Absynth a lot and also FM7 is doing a great job - both at
an amazingly low CPU expense.

Hi.
I have enjoyed this group for a while and have a question of a semi
newbie nature. I was wondering if any one has a recommendation for
keeping my exs programs and samples more organized. Sometimes I'll
open an old song in Logic and I get the message- "junglebass1.aif
not found" or something similar. I thought that by having a folder
on my desktop of sampler instruments and by keeping sub folders of
the samples associated with each program in there that I was safe,
but something is still wrong. I thought I had a handle on it. Would
I benefit from getting Translator or Redmatica Manager?
One problem is I've had the same setup for years and don't have any
upgrade plans in my near future. It is outdated, but works for me
just fine:
Mac G4 Dual 500 1 GB Ram OS 9.1(yeah, I know I'm way behind the
times!)
Logic Audio Platinum 4.1 with EXS 24(not MKII), but the original
I recently experienced a problem when I downloaded some cool synth
stuff from the Hollow Sun site(an excellent resource and highly
deserving of everyone's support). I took a cd of the programs and
samples to my studio, put em on my hard drive in the aforementioned
desktop folder and got the previously mentioned error message when
trying to audition the new sounds. I tried looking at the factory
sounds that came with the EXS24, but didn't really find a clue as to
what I'm not getting.
I realize that the answer to my problems may lie somewhere in an FAQ
and I've tried searching to no avail, but I was hoping for a super
clear concise explanation from someone of how to keep my exs
programs and samples organized before the mess gets any worse.
Thanks.
Sascha is right on about Absynth. It not only has great pads, but
lots of highly evocative basses, ethnic sounds, etc. Some are so
complex and evolving, that you wonder how they did them. Kinda of
like the Korg Wavestation or Waldorf Wave, but way beyond and not
dated. The programmability is awesome and you can tweak away for
days to create endless new sounds. The new Absynth II is probably
even better.

Best Bass? Sascha is right, but then again he may not be -- it depends
upon what you want. Yellow Tools has a massive bass guitar sample
library called Majestic. Very very comprehensive and good.

Redmaticas EXSManager is better, if not ideally, suited for this than
Translator, although the Win version of Translator does some of the handy
things EXSmanager does on Mac.

Be advised though that EXS Manager is OS X only. However, I believe you can
run it on OS X and then switch back to OS9 and the instruments still know
where the samples are. (Can someone confirm?)

Thanks for your responses. I am not looking to go with OSX right now
(I guess I'm a bit of a Luddite!), the main reason being I would
lose all my cool and expensive Pro Tools RTAS plug ins and other
older software for OS9 which I need to do my work, so I guess EXS
Manager isn't for me right now. I understand it is a great program
and lots of users like it a lot, but does anyone know a way I can
organize my .exs programs and associated samples "by hand". I'm
afraid it is getting messy and want to straighten everything out
before it gets any worse. Are there any url's anyone can point me
to? I'm willing to do some work and research, I just need a push in
the right direction. Thanks.

Garth,
Does Translator still come in Mac OS9? If so, how would it help me?
I'm interested in purchasing it if I could benefit from it. I do run
into frustrations often with purchasing new software because so few
companies deal with OS9 anymore. So much cool stuff for OSX, but I
wonder if a dual boot OS9/OSX setup would work for me.

It does, but OS9 is really becoming obsolete. OSX has so many advantages
and based on the user interaction I see, only if you are really really
really used to using a program that never made it to OSX, is there any
reason to stay in it. Even so, I'd recommend getting a used G4 1gHz -
really cheap comparatively - and run OSX in there and soon you'll find
yourself using that computer more often than your OS9 one.

I hear you. I know OSX is all that, but I want to at least keep the
G4 dual 500 with OS9 so I can continue to use my Digi 001 setup that
I laid out good money for. As far as Logic and the EXS24 go, I do
want to run those on a spiffier machine with a bright, new shiny OS
and Logic 6 and EXS24 MKII, but we're talkin' more than I want to
shell out right now. I make money with what I have now and want to
continue uninterrupted. When I do upgrade, I'm sure I'll love the
increased music making power. Thanks for the insight.
