Thanks Kerry. :-)
Already got the PMI290, so I didn't want to get the Emperor if it was
virtually the same. $80 is a fantasic price, but it's still $80, ya know?
Hi y'all,
Just upgraded to LP7. Noticed that EXS instruments, other than default ones
are no longer
recognized. I'm talkin' about entire libraries of 3rd party EXS instruments
including the
'Extreme Hip Hop' library. Anyone know a fix for this situation?
Thanx

The folder location is different, they are no longer in the emagic
application folder, they must be in:
Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments. You will find
the one with the default installed instruments ther, just pop your
custom or 3rd party ones in there with them.
Or you can have an alias called Sampler Instruments in the Logic
Folder pointing to a folder anywhere on your drive.

It is an "audio unit" format plugin in OS X. And as such, must be
installed in the "component" sub folder of your plugin folder
found in
either your user or system Library folder. The exact path is:
Library -> audio -> plug-ins -> components.
You have to of course make sure that you have obtained the audio unit
format of the EXSP 24 to do this.

Holy crap!!! I took out the OMS extension and voila, everything's back to
work... Now I
remember it started the day I bought my Logic Control and configured it in
both Logic and
OMS for Pro Tools. What could have happened?!! Now how can I use OMS in
addition to
Logic's own driver to use non-emagic instruments the way I used it before?
Still too many
questions.
Best to all,

Hi and thanks..I see no instance in either of the 2 library pathes you
mentioned and I have no idea about how to go about the last option you
mentioned. How would I get the audio unit item you mentioned? Thanks..TMT
I just upgraded my computer to a to a G4/1ghz machine, 1.3 gb ram. OS X
10.3.x
I currently own Logic Platinum 4.8 and EXS24, but I was thinking about
upgrading to the
current version of Logic 7 now. Logic Express seems to be in my budget but I
notice it
comes with the EXSP24 and not the EXS24....what's the difference between the
2 samplers?
Will I still be able to create my own sample libraries? I checked the apple
site and they
really don't detail the differences between both applications.
Hi Staphanie,
AFAIC the both are - playingwise identical.
allthough - You can't edit in the EXSP24...
that means that You cant change an existing sample program to fit Your
needs.
I'm not sure if You can use the convert function either.
That would mean that You had to use a external convertion program to
fix that. ( more money )
If You really want to build up a big library - then there is no way
around the "hardware-formats" -
( AKAI, EMU, (giga)... etc )
allthough, this group seems to have a certain urge to convert
everything to EXS ( which is nice ),
so maybe that won't be nessecary... ; )

Hello,
I read all the manual but I haven't seen a function importing WAV or AIFF
file in EXS format
so I can see it in the EXS instruments, near my akai and exs samples.
Is there a function or a shareware that permit this operation?
Thanks

Hi Paulista,
You are sort of asking the wrong question. Wav and Aiff are audio file
format. EXS refers to a soft sampler instrument format. The EXS format
_reads_ Aiff and Wav files, it doesn't convert them.
What you need to do is go into the EXS editor window, create a new
instrument, create a new zone, or zones; and then import the Aiff or
Wav files into those zones. Then save it and you'll have an EXS
instrument that triggers those Wav and Aiff files.
Depending on what you want to do, you might find the import multiple
zones command useful. It allows you to bring in a batch of audio files
in one shot with a choice of how you want them mapped.
Hope this helps......

Thanks anserwing my question.
I understand your explanation, but I would to have all my samples (like
Akai, Exs, sf2, aiff,
etc.) in organized directory to recall its in my database order, like akai
end exs samples
permit to do in exs24 instrument window. (Sample Instruments folder)
I know I can organize wave or aiff files assigning in many zones, but I hope
there is
another function to do this operation fastly. (like importing akai cd rom: I
see samples in
exs window (preset in Sample Instruments folder))
Thanks

Not sure if I'm understanding, but you can place your Aiff and Wav
files anywhere you want on your drives in any folder. The EXS will find
them.

No, there's no way to quickly do this like when converting an Akai CD
Rom.

Yes, EXS find aiff files but not properly in the same thing like AKAI. I can
choose Akai
samples pressing mouse on exs interface like a virtual hardware.
Is it correct? So I can select aiff instruments only if I first program them
in Instrument
Editor ... I have to spend too much time!
Thanks
P.S. do you know a software called "exs manager" ?
This software could be solution or not?

I've now got them both, side to side.
The 290 has a more brittle top with less undamped sustain ringing. The
middle is warmer but less focussed.
The low end of the 290 is also warmer, not that the Emperor low end is
brighter overall, the Emperor has more low and more high. It still has
a lovely bass sound but seems to have more brightness in with it at
the same time if I'm making myself clear.

It costs $300 to upgrade from Platinum to Pro, doesn't it? I don't
even think there's an upgrade from Platinum to Express, but if there
were I sure wouldn't bother. Pro has a staggering quantity of
features, including some really interesting synthesizers, the EVP88
electric piano, and lots of really good plug-ins. And I mean really
good plug-ins, like a linear phase eq, a convolution reverb, a pitch
corrector, etc.
EXS24 lets you edit, and there have been conflicting reports over
whether EXSP has disk-streaming.

EXSP24 in LE7 comes with a lot of great sounds/patches. I believe it it
playback only. There's no editor. You probably want to know if you can
port over your
existing EXS24 library. Would there be differences in file structure?
Maybe someone else can answer.
Good luck.

No difference in reading, between EXS24 and EXSP24.
the "P" stands for "player" - it's exactly the same
engine - but no
edit functions implemented.
the EXSP24 reads all the files that the EXS24 reads

I think Logic Plat, even 4.8, to express is probably a downgrade not
an upgrade

Thanks everyone for the tips. Last I checked, versions of Logic 4.x or lower
do not qualify
for the $300 upgrade, so it looks like I'd have to shell out a lot more for
pro, because
editability in the EXS sampler is important for me.
Then who even knows if Logic 7 will be stable on my 1ghz G4. We'll see..

I installed LP7 a few days ago. It's working fine but now I'd like to
relocate the EXS samples to another (non boot) drive. After installing
7 directly over the top of 6.4.1 all I see in the Applications folder
is icons for the LP7 and Waveburner apps themselves and the Logic 6
Series folder that was there before. I presume this means the EXS
samples from LP7 have gone in to the Logic 6 Series folder? How could I
check? Is there a sample that's unique to 7?
I could move them in the obvious way but what do I need to do to ensure
the EXS finds them?
thanks in advance

I run a dual 1.25 GHz G4 quite successfully Stephanie so you shouldn't
have a problem, depending on exactly what you do of course.
Andris
You CAN actually edit EXS patches without having to own the EXS or LogicPro.
The EXS editor is part of Logic and will work without the full version being
present as well. The only problem here is that you WON'T be able to listen
to your edits in realtime. So, you'd have to open the editor, do whatever
you want, save the patch and reload it into the EXSP.
From what it seems, this could become a time consuming process on, say,
chirurgical edits such as finetunings, for setting up rather basic
zone/group mappings it could however work fine.
