Subject: Loaded Drum Kits - Samples Don't Sound Like They Should Sound -Help!!
Message #12877
Geniuses, I call upon you all again. I have some small drum kits from my SoundFont Samples Folder, used for specific types of sound. Problem is when I open them 'Load multi-samples' in EXS24 mkII instruments, none of them sound as they should. (i.e. a click sounds like a kick drum). In the DRUMS mode, they align in a verticle format in EXS Editor. Useless. In AUTOMAP, each sample loads with a corresponding Group, and begin as Key C3 (60), with a range of -C2 to C8. Replication problem here. In CHROMATIC Mode, the first sample automatically becomes C1 (36), but again, none of the samples sound like they should. Are there any geniuses out there who have figured out the remedy to this problem? Please find this message!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Mitchell

Subject: How can I get my EXS24 activated on a PC ????
Message #12879
I have Logic 5.5.1 and I have not used samplers much in the past. I now want to get my EXS24 activated so I called a UK Emagic distributor for a code. He told me they stopped selling them for PCs 6 months ago and the only way I could get one now would be to buy Logic 7 !! Is he having a laugh ?!!!!!! So I have to buy an Apple computer and Logic 7 just to get the EXS24 !!! Does anyone know a way I can get this thing working on my PC ???? Its a diabolical liberty, I understand that Emagic no longer deal with PCs but I spent over £500 quid for a legitimate setup and know I am getting no help at all on my fully legal system, just because I did not activate all of the software available at that time, these plugins cost money though !!!!! Thanks for any help in advance.

mrvenjer [mailto:mrvenjer@...] >Does anyone know a way I can get this thing working on my PC ???? I dropped the Dutch distributor a line. They still have the service to buy an upgrade to Logic 6.4 (Mac) which included all the activations of plugins for Logic Windows, including EXS. But you need to be very fast, because they are clearing stock next week! Maybe they sell to the UK, dunno. I will send you their e-mail off-list. Good luck! If at first you don't succeed. . . Try getting in touch with the Apple/Emagic sales and tech folks here in the U.S. You may in fact be too late, butit's worth a try. I'm a PC user as well and have been extremely lucky to have gotten authorization codes for the EXS24 and other virtual instrumentsfor the version of Logic 5 Platinum I purchased a few months ago. You should note that if you call Apple/Emagic you will almost certainly have a much easier time of getting through to the sales division than if you were to try to call the tech support side. I have never placed a call to tech support which didn't involve being put on hold for at least a half hour (and usually more!) before getting to talk to a tech rep. If you like, I can give you more specific info. Feel free to e-mail me directly. John F.

Has anyone successfully bought a Roland format sample CD and converted to EXS24? I was reading on the Chicken Systems site some things that made me think something might get lost in the translation. I am also wondering about how time consuming that would be! thanks Greg

I've done a few of these, using both Translator and CDXtract, and they generally work well. Most older sample libraries didn't incorporate much cross switching or cross fading due to memory limitations, so the translations are pretty straight forward.

I found those samples to be of excellent quality and have already put many of them to good use. I have not tried any from this latest group, but will make a point to let you know what I think once I do. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share these! John F.

Subject: Audio Instruments from L6 to Pro Tools
Message #12897
Dear All Have searched LUG help/FAQs and past posts as well as manuals and digidesign but can't seem to work out how to do the following: Take a song (without vocals) - all instruments are EXS24 audio instruments and Virtual Guitar - and put it into a Pro Tools (LE) session. The tracks I have recorded are just the data and not audio, but I don't want to bounce the stereo file as I want to be able to have each track indiciually in Pro Tools. I'm sure this is obvious, yet I can't tell for looking! Thanks Gareth Hemmings

Gareth, You need to bounce each track individually. Since you're in 6, there are two ways of doing this. The long way: Solo and bounce each track. (change the output to mono for mono files) The quick way: Set your freeze file format to 24bit. (preferences > audio) and freeze all your tracks in one pass. Then simply bring these files into your ProTools session. .Chris

As Chris Hellstrom says, the easiest way is to Freeze the tracks. While L7 has a 1-button bounce (I don't have it yet so I don't know how it works), you need to know how bouncing works in L6. It's actually very easy: you just assign everything you want to bounce to a stereo pair to the same Output object, where you'll see the Bounce button. If you're bouncing external instruments along with the audio that comes from inside Logic, you have to use the real-time bounce, otherwise you can use the quick one. (Use Input objects to monitor external instruments.) But you can only bounce one stereo pair at a time. -- Nick Batzdorf 818/905-9101, cell 590-9101, fax 905-5434

Hello guys, Logic 7 so far has no option to change the freeze file bit depth. It only freezes at 32 bit depth. The bounce feature seems to be the only way to go at this present time. Good luck!
