I don't think this is about sample naming but about patch naming.
Personally, I don't give a damn about sample names (unless I'd like to reuse
them), but I DO give a damn about patch names - and admittedly, especially
some older AKAI disks are using funny patch names, so you allways need to
have the booklet handy to get a clue about wtf is going on with those
patches.
However, I do it like this: Once I found a patch pleasing me, I simply do a
"save instrument as" action and give it a more meaningful name.

I was referring (as I believe was the original poster) to instrument names,
not sample names. Of course you don't want to change the sample names. That
would be a nasty error from which recovery would be quite tedious. As
someone mentioned today on this forum, who cares what the sample names are.
We rarely come into contact with them on a working day.

Hello All,
I'm considering buying the whole Sam Brass collection(on sale 30% off
at East/West) for use on EXS. Is this a complete and functional set as
is on EXS or must it be converted from Giga? If so, how much
playability is lost in the conversion process. Thanks for the benefit
of your experience.

The SAM Brass Multi versions include native EXS, Kontakt and Halion
versions. No conversions necessary, and to my knowledge no functionality is
lost from the Giga versions.
It seems to take several days to re-link a large amount of EXS instruments
with their
samples. I do this overnight now, but next morning I want to continue using
Logic as
usual so the only option to stop this process seems to force quit Logic.
I am aware that Redmatica's EXS manager would help there but I'm on OS9.
Ideas?

Theoretically, you should be able to interrupt this process with
<Command><.> but it doesn't usually work.
Rather select smaller folders of instruments for Find Unresolved.....
EXS Manager is *HOT* - what takes a whole night in Logic will get
done in a few minutes. (Re-consider OSX?)
Regards - Colin
Thanks Colin. Certainly consider OSX but too risky to upgrade in the middle
of
project... Will deal with small folders only for the moment. regards, Dom

Even though it only runs in OS X, EXS Manager's results work in OS 9 too.

hello I recently got exs with logic pro package and I'm lovin' it.
I am having a problem with loading some akai samples. I can load akai
samples from
akai CD-ROM. I am trying to load AKAI sounds from nero, rfl, bin/cue files.
I am a
mac user, and I do not have PCs. I can run both OS9 and X (G4 dual boot)
Thanx

If you don't have a PC, how did you get those PC-generated Akai Images in
the first place? They aren't copies of copyrighted Akai CD's, are they?

Im new to these virtual instuments for I have used outboard gear for
the last 7 years. Please bear with me.I have recently moved up to osx
panther series and updated to Logic Pro(And recieved the vsti's in
the update) from logic Platinum 6.3.1.
My problem is that I cant find the factory presets for the Vsti plug-
ins for any of the vsti's..They will not show up in the mixer page
when I pull down the down arrow(after I have opened them).Question
is ,Do I have to drag the factory prestes from Os9 folders to the
OsX folder?
Kind Regards,
Mr.G

Oops. You missed a point - No VST in OSX, just Audio Instrument (AU)
type...
(don't beat me)
You might be able to convert many VST's to AU with a software from
FXpansion.
I've heard about something which runs as a VST host. But I don't
understand this kind of stuff.

I'm a little late here (having been on vacation the last two weeks),
but there's a limit to the number of files Logic can have open. The
solution is to use EXSManager's SampleMerge routine to make one file
out of lots of them.

I have EXSP24 and I am getting distortion when I play a note on my keyboard.
I have an old
Casio CZ-1 running into a Digi 001 into my Mac with Logic Express. Audio
works just fine
it is only a problem when I use midi and the EXSP24.
Looking for help,

Try to raise your buffer size (audio hardware and driver dialog).

Hi There!
since the HollowSun-exs.zip is not available anymore at the
Files section, I would like to ask if someone knows where
I can download the last available version, or maybe can someone mail it
to me?
thanx in advance

I just checked, it's still there, downloading fine.

Doesn't work here - "File access is currently unavailable", not a
single file visible...

Andy

I used to have this problem when trying to use a Digidesign Mbox with
Logic and the EXS24. Tried a few things to fix it but ended up ditching
all things Digidesign.
*If* I remember correctly, increasing the buffer size alleviated the
problem, but at the expense of having an unacceptably long latency time.

Just a Yahoo glitch, give it a couple of hours and try again...

I really like Amadeus II, which is a two-track editor with great
sonograms and it also seems to compress to MP3 very nicely as well.
(Especially at very low bitrates for voice.)
It's shareware.

VST to AudioUnit Adapter :

I know it does not work with all plugs but I had no problem with the
few I use (as Steinberg's XPhraze)

Strictly this is a Logic que, but I got no response from the LUG, maybe
someone might be able to help me here - it does involve EXS24.
I have VSL opus 1 but regularly run into problems when opening say seven or
so tracks with different samples when suddenly the sound goes (midi
messages still going through) and when attempting to play back the
"error
trying to synchronise audio and midi" messgae appears. Is there
something
obvious I haven't done - seems like a memory problem maybe?
Logic 6.4.2
G4 dual 1.42 (2mb L3 cahce per processor)
1GB ram
OS 10.3.5
Unitor 8 midi interface and digidesign 001 box
Thank you in advance for your help! (I did do an archive search on ESX UG
and LUG but surprisingly came up with nothing)
