Are you using EXS 24 or EXS24 II? Wich logic version are you using?
Elith
I just got a new G5 and installed Logic, downloaded the new 6.2.1 version
for it and
everything is great but I can not get EXS24mkII to recognize or connect to
the factory
samples that I have loaded into the Sampler Instuments folder. I remember
going
through this when I updated the last time and it had something to do with
the way
the folder or the application was named. Nothing I have tried so far has
worked.
Can somebody offer some advice on what needs done to fix this. Unfortunately
the
manual which came with the original EXS24 does not offer any suggestions and
neither could I find anything on Emagic's site.

Correction: the EXS version is 16 bits as well. I just looked at a
file in SpectraFoo's bit scope. My apologies.
But between you and me and four walls, I really couldn't care less.
Being able to load more of it into each computer is much more
valuable to me than a microscopic difference in audio quality.

Maybe a 6.2 bug. I`m using EXS24 with logic 5.5. OSX with no problems....
Have you tried with OSX ?

AFAIK, 6.1.1 is the latest version of Logic able to run on OS 9.2.2.
v. 6.2 and up has been OS X only so far.

Mats Helgesson -- a rather generous swedish guy has recorded and packaged
some quite impressive samples which are available for free on his site.
http://exce.ath.cx/~route909/download.html
Most are available for download in the sf2 format -- these are in SFPack
archives which means Mac users will need to find an SFPack decompression
tool if they don't have access to a PC. There are some quite decent drum
kits -- close mic and room mic kits and a clarinet with various
articulations.
The piano is in gig format and has five velocity levels. To quote the
readme is a"sampled reproduction of a Yamaha CF-3 grand piano from the
early 90s. It was chromatically sampled, to maintain the tempered
tuning."
It is a very pleasing instrument and well worth downloading IMHO -- I
prefer it to some of my other commercially released piano sample sets. It
is now uploaded as a 337 rar archive and also as a 616 MB zip archive.

What PC do you use for Giga ? If you have a diagram of your installation, I
would love it, because I cannot yet figure out how is your setup.
How reliable is Giga on PC ? How many crashes a day or a week ?
Thanks in advance.

May be you have a leading space in the names !
When you install Logic from scratch it will create the folders, just replace
them with an Alias of your actual folders ! do not forget to remove the
"alias" word from the name of the alias.

No crashes since Win XP... IU use it every day without problems.
I've got a copy of the EXS already but I want to run a copy on my powerbook
as well,
is there anyway of doing this without having to buy another copy exclusively
for the PBook?
also I'm not interested in using a crack to get round this.

The simple way is to take your dongle (assuming you use Logic 6.x)
and swap it between the 2 computers. The dongle is really what
carries the licence.
Apart from that, maybe you could ask your local Emagic agent if there
is a special licence that allows you to do this.

If you want to work with two computers at same time. you'll need another
dongle, even if you buy a 2nd EXS 24 . If you need to work in different
places ,
you can use your dongle and put in any computer. Xs key carries the licences
of emagic programs..

I have no problems with Logic 5.5 and OSX ( I have no problems too with
logic 6 OSX but my demo expired ). Have you tried OSX?

You probably need to open the Project Manager window and get it to
Find All Unresolved File References. Warning: that can take 12 hours
if you have a lot of samples, but after that it works great.

As mainstream a machine as possible: P4 2.4 GHz, 2GB RAM, Windows XP,
motherboard with Intel chipset. I bought it only for this purpose -
my first Windows machine - and I plan on adding another one in the
near future, depending on how things shake out with the G5s (which
can access 8GB of memory, making the prospect of having it all on a
single machine theoretically possible).
I'd be happy to give you more details off the list if you're really
serious about taking the leap of faith.
> If you have a diagram of your installation, I

I have a somewhat roundabout system, but this part of it is very
simple. The Giga machine is simply an external sound module, with the
eight TDIFs on its soundcard (a Tascam-branded PCI-822) going into
the same digital mixer my Pro Tools audio interface is in. So I
monitor the Giga outputs through the mixer, and then bus them into
Pro Tools when I'm ready to mix. I also have the VSL Orchestral Cube
in EXS format (on my main Mac), so the library is running on both
machines.
Oh, and for clocking, I have a MOTU Digital Timepiece feeding word
clock to the mixer, Superclock to the Pro Tools system, S/PDIF to
the Tascam PCI-822...and also ADAT sync to my mobile PowerBook rig,
which is a MOTU 828 Firewire interface.
>How reliable is Giga on PC ? How many crashes a day or a week ?

It's 100% reliable. I leave the computer on and loaded, and it never
crashes. But you have to get the right hardware, or this won't be
your experience.

Hi,
I´ve got problems at the converted LargeString Esp of the Kirk Hunter
Virtuoso Strings: At some notes, you hear 2 different pitched sounds and
"clicks"… I´ve converted with the internal EXS Converter…
Does CDExtract "manipulate" the sound?
Anyone help??

Well, I don't know if the Akai version is anything like the E-mu
version of this library. I've got the E-mu version and converted it
using Translator. I've found that the exs converter at times gets the
loop points incorrect and those are the clicks that you hear. This
used to happen with earlier versions of both Translator and CDXtract
(although not as much as with the exs converter). The most recent
versions of both of those programs are much better.
As for the different pitches, I have no idea. Have you tried checking
to see if any of the zones are have their tuning adjusted? In regards
to clicks, if it is at the beginning of the sample, change the start
point of the sample by a few samples (start with a small number like 15
and go up from there). If it is in the loop, then the loop points are
messed up.

Hi All,
Subject pretty much says it all. I have heard rumors that Emagic / Apple
kind of bent
the rules as far as the AU spec goes. Not really sure what that means other
than it
seems at the current state of things an AU plug/app is not really the
universally
compatible format that we had all hoped for. (yet?)
I have heard that the EXSP AU will not work w/ DP. Any info to the contrary?

I had the same problem too, but I have cleaned some of my ESX lib. But the
instrument setting I have lost where still there !
This is very strange, they may be a bug somwhere !

Hi all,
I have trouble with finding some sample-sounds of (non classic)
trumpet, trombones and saxes.
Most of the cd's I see, seem to be full of (user ready..my God..)
riffs, which I don't want. I want the tones themselves. With and
without scoops, fall offs, different dynamics, sforzati and so on.
I also want seperated sounds of these instruments, not mixed. I can
do that myself. So no trumpet and tenor sax together.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or better, does anyone
know a place to download.

What do you mean by "Emagic/Apple"..? Considering that EXSP came
out
_before_ the Apple buyout, I think you mean "Emagic".
The Apple Core Audio developers are putting together an AU validation
tool, so it will be interesting to see how well both the EXSP24 and EVP73
do in the test (rumour has it: not good :-(

Its still a growing format, and certainly for the early adopters (Emagic
included) there were/are misinterpretations of how an AU should behave.
Over time these will be resolved, especially as more and better
documentation becomes available. As for the future, things are looking
like being a hell of a lot of fun!!!

I've tried both EVP73 and EXSP24 in SynthTest without success--GUI
appears, but no audio output. I gather this is common.
