just read on the emagic web site that platinum 6.2 is required to
run logic on a G5. will there be support for logic gold as well?
i just ordered a G5 and now i'm a little confused. i'm also concerned
about the new PCI standard being a problem with digidesign products.
will this also affect my audiowerk 8 card?
any info would be greatly appreciated.

The update from Gold to PLat is what? $150 or so?
You're about to drop +/- $3000 on a new machine, so if there's any doubt,
why
not upgrade to PLat as well?

Hi there,
I have a question about arpeggios with the EXS24mkII ;
Is there a way to make a arpeggio in the ESX?
And then I mean real extended arpeggios, not only one octave up 'n down.
just like the waldorf PPG for example.
Thanks in advance

Now that surely must be great news for all those who've tried in vain
over the past months (and sent me private mail about the
corresponding instruments on my site). So: great news, and not old
at all. Thanks for sharing.

secnod, the update here in sweden is 500$ or so and since i have to buy

Dear Julie,
I am so old school sampling none of this matters to me. I bought the
original emulator back in the early 80's. Rather than have one sample
program for everything. I usually use different programs for different
spots in the score. SO this is a long winded answer telling you the
samples are there to do what you want, but I can't say the programming
transfers. You should email Kirk Hunter the creator. He is very
responsive. Also I am specifically referring to the KH solo strings

Well, it took me a long time to verify my statement, but I do indeed have
the EXSP AU working as a multichannel plugin. There is an CHA dropdown, and
you load different instruments into each of the 16 slots, then connect a
multichannel instrument to the audio instrument and voila.
The reason that it took me so long to verify is that I used to be able to
this with the VST version in OS9 but can't seem to get that CHA menu to come
down anymore - I have no idea why. I just got OSX up and running again on
my laptop so was able to test out the AU version this morning.
Sampletank Free as well does this in OS9.

From: "beatz" <beatz@...>
Personally, i would recommend the EXS24 if you're into heavy tweaking, and
the player for milder modulation of pgm's. By the way, if you get the EXSP
to work as a multichannel in logic, please let me know! Thanks
Regards
Tom
Thanks to Garth Hjelte's assistance and a lot of persistence, I was finally
able to download the Akai piano samples. I had been happily using ST Free
on OS9, but got the Akai samples to use with EXSP AU on my laptop.
However, I'm not all that thrilled and wonder if I am perhaps doing
something wrong. When I play normally the sound is beautiful, but when I go
past a certain velocity, the samples sound so harsh that they seem to be
coming from a different instrument, completely destroying any sonic
continuity across the dynamic range.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there some tweaking I can do to
remedy this? I've never created an instrument from samples, but it almost
seems as if I'm missing a couple of steps of timbre changes across the
dynamic range.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Gregory

I had to remap a couple of samples because they seemed to be damaged.
Have your editor open when you strike the note (at the right velocity), and
take a look at that particular sample. It's probably short and mangled.

Is there some reason you want to do this in the EXS? I've always found
Logic's arpeggio object in the env. is more than up to most of the
arping tasks I throw at it. And it can be use on any MIDI object or
Audio Instrument, including any VSTs/AUs and the ES1/2, EVB3/D6, and
EXS24 -- just in case you find you want to mix it up.

Thanks Gary,
The demos sound just great....I contacted Kirk Hunter...and as you

doesn't work...we'll see...I made the leap.

Can anyone tell me how to get the ESX24 on PC to "SEE" samples on
an
external hard drive? The samples are ALL In ESX24 format and I have set
options to look at "ALL DRIVES" but it does not look at the
External Drive
or pick up the samples there.
Thanks !
Soram
I posted this more than a week ago and got no response. Any EXS-mkI
users, could you please read this and possibly contact me?
---
When you open the EXS in Controls view, there are a bunch of
parameters without attached value or slider -- like "Filter ADSR
fixed" and "Filter ADSR via vel". They're seen as a
horizontal line
with the foregoing text between parenthesis in the middle.
You can also get to see them by enabling Track Automation for an EXS
track, picking some parameter to automate, and then hitting the
numeric +/- keys to scroll through the parameters.
Does anyone have any idea what these are? Are they obsolete
parameters from the mk-I age?
I ask because I just got a copy of the Xtreme Analog library (by
Emagic themselves) and the CD has a bunch of demo songs that utilize
some of those parameters for (object based) automation. However, all
this automation has no audible effect, so I suspect those parameters
to be pre-mkII indeed. Would be silly though -- Emagic selling a CD
for an old EXS version, and not taking advantage of new features (or
not even updating their demos to work properly with the mkII).
Are there people here who still use the old EXS (mkI)? If so, could
any of you please contact me off-list, so I can get this figured out?

You could try this (assuming you're on LA6): open the Project
Manager, and add the external drive in the 'include paths' section of
the browser. Rescan your drives, and then have the PM solve
unresolved file references (one of the menu options). Make sure you
have a big pot of coffee handy, and something else to do (like
reading a good book) when doing this, since it takes a while :-).

Ever since I put the instrument-files on my website, I've received
heaps of email from people running into password/login dialogs at the
akai-site and not being able to get in as an anonymous user.
Likewise here in the group many complained that the site was

Hendrick thanks for the reply but I am on Logic 5.5 on a PC with lots of RAM
Anybody else have any ideas on how to get Logic 5.5 to "SEE" all
my samples
which are on an external hard drive ?
Thanks!
hello all...
how do i...
1. have one "instrument," with, for example a kik on C1, snare on
D1, hat on E1.
2. i know how to map them but, can i have seperate panel
parameters for each. ie, different filter, modulations, env's, etc.
3. if i cant, oh well. but it still seems that when i use the drop
down menu to switch between instruments, they front panel doesnt
change.
help clear my confusion.
thanks
ben
The front panel settings are global for your current instrument. If you
have external effect plugins that mimic the filter of the EXS24, such
as Autofilter, and you have the EXS MKII, you can send each sample out
a different output (it's in the sample's parameter guide), and then
have each sample go through a different effect chain. If you're doing
heavy modulation of these samples, it's probably best to just make a
separate instrument for each. You could, in theory, control them all
from a single midi track in the arrange window by making a notesplitter
in the environment, but that's probably too much work.
To save the front panel settings to the current instrument, go to the
options pop-up menu and choose something like "save settings to
instrument".
