Subject: Still confused!
Message #903
I've got a Windows PC running WinME. I purchased EXS24 for use with Logic Platinum. Should I use the Delta 1010 which uses ASIO2? Or should I use the Digi001 which has direct support without the need for ASIO? I need the 8 analog I/O because I use a Mackie 32:8 analog mixer. I don't care about use with other applications, I just want the card which gives the absolute best timing because I build my own drum loops and cannot afford to have that fall apart. I also own two PCs. 1) P3/650, 512MB, 20 Gig 7200rpm HD. Intel BX Chipset. 2) AMD T-Bird 1Ghz, 512MB, 30 Gig 7200rpm HD. Via KT133 Chipset on an Asus A7V motherboard. Which CPU/motherboard should I use? I've heard good and bad about A7V. I've heard good about BX. Obviously the trade-off is CPU power. Regards, Mark

Subject: EXS 24 with new midi engine in LAP 4.7
Message #905
I downloaded the update to LAP 4.7 today from 4.6.3, when I loaded songs previously done in 4.6.3, all my EXS instrument tracks played at different tempos, for that matter, it appears to have completely wrecked my Unitor MKII, as no midi notes are reaching my physical synth modules. If I disarm the new midi engine and use the classic, everything is back to normal, anyone else fiddling with the upgrade? It also seems to have crashed a Virtual Dongle EMU I have been using, Virtual Dongle EMU 1.3.4. I am using a G4 Dual 533, with 512mb ram, Unitor MkII is connected via a G4port serial connection, and using ADB dongle via Griffin Imate. Mac OS 9.1. Thanks -damon

Subject: SampleCell Import Question
Message #907
Hey all, I posted this on the LogicUsers group but no response. So I'll give it a shot here: While it's great that you can now use SCell libraries with Logic (4.7), is it not possible to load them directly from the CD-ROM? I.e., MUST you first copy the insts/samples (and banks) to your hard drive before the EXS24 will load them? The reason I ask is that if you don't know exactly what samples an instrument or insts use, then you might as well load the whole CD, which is hardly efficient from a storage POV. It would be great if you could just load what's necessary from the CD and then have Logic copy/save it to your hard drive. Not complaining, just wondering. (Not even my Logic/EXS rig anyhoodles!) From my 10-minute fuddling, it looks like 4.7 is a great improvement. Nice work fellas! Thanks, El

Subject: Still get Hung Notes?
Message #908
This is a reply to #907.
Hi all Anyone eliminate hung notes? We continue to get hung notes in polyphonic passages with SC or Akai conversions in 4.7. We had hoped that this problem would have been solved by now. All other extrenal Midi gear is fine. Only EXS hangs notes. Anyone form Emagic give us some help ? Are there any settings in EXS that might be creating this problem? It renders EXS useless if this continues.

Subject: Akai convert LAWP 4.7
Message #909
Just converted a whole AKAI-cd with the 4.7 version of EXS24 sampler. Worked great. I still can't find anywhere to choose where I want the audiofiles to go though. They always end up in the C:Program FilesemagicLogic Audio 4.0 PlatinumAKAI samples-folder with folders named VOLUME 01, VOLUME 02, etc... What happenes if I want to convert a new CD now. Will they owerwrite the old files? Will they also be called VOLUME 01, VOLUME 02, etc...? I have innstalled a 45Gb IBM drive that I'm just going to use for samples. How can I move the already converted samples over there and also convert new CD's directly to that drive the next time? BTW: When you choose subfolder in the convert windo that seemes to only work for the esx files. The actual wave files aren't created in a similar subfolder. Why? -- Arvid Solvang http://www.viagram.no/privat/arvid/

Subject: midi & being confused.
Message #912
hi wizards. i probably overlooked something. have a hardware sequenzer (16midi tracks), from wchich i want to control several exs24 samplers/instruments. i keep running into the problem that i need to select an audioinstrument in the arrange window to make ONE sampler work (which then plays back all midi notes coming in from the 16 hardware sequenzer tracks.) can it be done: triggering different samples (ex. loops, vocals, sounds) on different channels. different exs24's of course too, so that i can implement various FX + EQ channel settings. i understand that the selection of the audioObject in the arrange window is part of the underlying logic of LOGIC, that should not be an excuse for exs24 not to work on multiple channels. your feedback would be very much appreciated. also controller for filter don't work via outside sliders, even if set to the proper numners.) - damn i just wanna rock this exs baby live on stage with my blasting 909, jomox & virus setup. is that possible. or shall i switch to a more dance-oriented product. peace - superefreaque

However, there is one advantage that you got in Control view that you don't have in Edit view. With the key command + and - you can change instantly to previous or next instrument and going easily through all your list of instruments (fast audition without having to go through the hierarchical menu). To do so, just do a really short click in the instrument name box and use the key command + and -. Michel

Subject: Archiving Sampler Instruments - 3 questions
Message #915
The Update info says that "Sample Instruments can now be archived on a per-project basis" Anyone know how to do this? I got the KC to copy all the EXS audio files, that's great, but how to do the Instrument files? Another thing from the info sheet - "New "find" functionality allows search via key words" - does this mean find only within the Sampler Instruments folder in the Logic Audio folder? And "Automated search over network volumes possible" Anyone know how to do this? And how is it "automated"? RJ

Sorry, haven't tried this out yet but I can help with the other Qs below. >Another thing from the info sheet - "New "find" functionality allows >search via key words" - does this mean find only within the Sampler >Instruments folder in the Logic Audio folder? Yes AFAIK - if you type "piano" in the "find" box, all instruments or subdirectories inside the sampler instrument folder which include the word "piano" will show up in a list at the bottom of the instrument selector. They only become visible when it is opened. It seems a little strange to type in the floating box which then disappears and then have to open the instrument selector to see the results but it does work. >And "Automated search over network volumes possible" Anyone know how >to do this? And how is it "automated"? On PC it works like this: Open the EXS instrument editor and in the Edit menu you above will find Preferences, There is a new preference for "Search Samples on" with options as follows: local volumes, external volumes, all volumes A, B C D etc Regards, Murray

Subject: LAWP 4.7 and EXS24 strange behavior with old songs
Message #920
I got some strange behavior with my current project on Logic 4.7 with the EXS24. I got a snare sound which is a layer between two different sounds. In Logic 4.7 this snaresound is lower in tune and seems to phase. In fact it sounds totally different, but all the settings are the same as befor. Logic 4.61 plays the original snare. Now i have to use 4.7 just for this one sound. What`s happening ? Unkas Gemmeker

Message #923
Further to my request for help earlier. I have been checking past mails and found one talking of setting the modwheel to EXS volume. I understand what i have read but do not know where the "Physical Input Object"is nor the "Recording and Thru" object. Also, how can I establish what the midi numbers of each parameter are. There must be hundreds & I want to assign plugin controller data to the modwheel. Please someone enlighten me. Cheers Lee
