you're missing the point. you do this once then all the future things you
convert go to your sample drive.

Hmm, sorry to beat this to death, but I don't think so when it comes to
Giga importing. Everything sample related is already on my sample drive,
with an alias to the Sampler Instruments folder inside Logic. This works
perfectly for EXS24 instruments and samples. But when I delete the original
"DLS-Giga Samples" folder and create an alias to identically named
folder
on the sample drive, Logic ignores the alias and creates a new original in
the Logic folder during the Giga conversion process. The converted files
again end up in the Logic folder on my system drive and have to be manually
moved to the sample drive. Am I still missing something?

In case it slipped by, just want to make sure people understand you can scan
a single folder, rather than all discs, cutting the scan time DRAMATICALLY.
AND you can scan incrementally, after additional imports. It's doesn't get
faster than this.

Check if your used .exs instrument files are "read only". As the
EXS is
adding sample locations automatically, it will have to have write access to
those, otherwise the "Code=5" error will come up. In addition it
will take
it WAY longer to find the appropriate samples.
No idea about your other problem, sorry.

I don't get this... If you've created an alias called "xyz", then
how on earth can Logic create a folder that's called "xyz" as well
in
the same directory??? So you mean to say that at the end of the
process you have _2_ objects with identical names in the same
directory???

I just bought an Akai format CD-ROM. Converted the disc to EXS24 with
Translator.
Unfortunately the CD-ROM programmers named all the samples within each
program the same e.g. "1. AIF" "2. AIF" "3.
AIF" etc.
So, of course the EXS24 gets confused when it looks for the correct samples.
The
standard window comes up saying more than one sample found and offers me a
maximum of three choices. Problem is the correct sample is
usually not among those three choices listed.
Has anyone found a workaround for this situation yet? I realize a similar
topic came
up a while ago regarding duplicate instrument names.
For now I'm looking at renaming a thousand-odd samples - or picking up a
cheap
S3000. Neither option is appealing.

You must convert with exs 24 in Os 9.2 first. Later reboot in OSX and open
your imported files in esx24 II...

If I remember correctly, the EXS only gives you a choice between
samples that are identical -- i.e. not just having the same name, but
having (at least) the same filelength as well.
So it might very well be that you just have 5 or more copies of the
exact same sample on your HD. If the EXS then lets you choose from 3
of them, it wouldn't matter which one you pick, as they're all the
same anyway.
But maybe I'm completely wrong here...

Renaming won't work, except when you _also_ manually update the EXS
instruments. Talking about "not appealing"... Phew...

I recently purchased a copy of the Xtreme Analog samples at a music store
close out
sale (ie:no returns) and it seems to be an older version which only installs
in OS 9.
I'm using OSX and the exs24 mkII. From the advanced folder, I was able to
get the
sounds into my sample folder and the basic waveforms folder in my
Instruments
folder. That all works. But the Xtreme Analog folder, which I also copied
into my
sampler instruments folder, isn't recognized by the sampler, even after I
select
"refresh menu".
Any thoughts?
thanks

Hello all,
I'm new to here. I'm planing to buy EXS24 on ebay. Could anybody tell me
what's the main difference between EXS24MK I and EXS24MKII??
Can MK I version 1.0 be upgraded to MK II???
I've searched the emagic web site, but with no luck to find the answer.
Thanks in advance.

What youre buying is the authorisation. If you have logic v5.5 or later you
will use EXS v2, and earlier, EXS v1. The auth authorises both.
Take care however - not all EXS24 CD's can have their licence transferred to
a new owner apparently, and if you use an XSkey, you'll need to do this to
get an authorisation to put in the key. Check your local distie for details.

The installer runs fine in classic mode and shouldnt cause any problems...!

Good point. Personally, I don't advise an eBay purchase. The Mark II offers
drastically more powerful routing capabilities. It's superior in my opinion.
Also, the difference of Mark II versus Mark I is your Logic version, not
your CD install version (which really isn't an installer). -Jer

Does Emagic still offer a swap of the old CD for the EXS24 for an XS key
code
for the EXS24? If so, this could be a good deal -- assuming it is a legit
version that is being sold.
Regards,
Murray
You should contact Emagic tech support for this and get a case number for
the exchange. You can get varied information if you're not careful. Make the
arrangement in advance, should you choose to do this. Then you can proceed
with greater confidence. Policies have shifted a lot in the last year or so.
Better to be safe than sorry!

They do, but with the one caveat I was warning of :
- v4 EXS CD's can be transferred / converted to a code.
- v5 EXS CD's can not, and are labelled as "Not valid as proof of
purchase"

Hi Pev, Murry, and Jer.
Thanks for the info.
I just emailed Emagic tech and hope they'll reply me soon.
Thanks you guys again and take care :-)

Sorry Elith, my original post wasn't clear enough - I'm not using OSX at all
- I'm still in 9.2 and the conversion process has stopped working after
upgrading to LAM 5.5.

Does anyone know how to do what I'd the EXS24mkII to do?
I want to have a sampled Violins patch consisting of:
PP, MF, and FF long samples, that are velocity switched and velocity
crossfaded.
AND,
I want it to when I apply MOD WHEEL (CTRL#1), the whole keyboard
switches to:
Tremelo Violins. PP, MF, FF, that are also velocity switched and velocity
crossfaded.
I would even settle for all of the above without Velocity crossfading. Does
anyone have an idea how to do this?
I have a feeling it'll have something to do with Zones, Groups, and Sample
Select.
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm currently trying to convert audio from a CD into the EXS
(Complete Celt). WIthin each CD track are multiple phrases,
which I am stripping the silence from and applying as different
zones laid out chromatically. Here's my problem: I can't figure
out how to keep the EXS from always having the 'one shot' box
checked. I've tried after the fact to group select and turn all zone
one shots off, but no luck. If at all possible, I'd like to avoid
having to open up each zone and uncheck that box. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ya, doesn't make much sense to me either. wouldn't it get named with a -1
after it. ... or something.

Select all zones, press the Option key, and then click-uncheck one of
the one-shot checkboxes. By holding Option down, you'll uncheck them
all in one go. This works for all checkboxes and the group-popup in
zones and groups. It's a pity it doesn't work for numerical values
as well.

Correct feeling :-). Set up 6 groups. Let's suppose groups 1,2,3
are pp, mf and ff long samples, and groups 4,5,6 are tremolo pp, mf
and ff respectively.
In group 1, set 'Select range' to 1-40, in group 2 set this to 41-80
and in group 3 it's 81-127. Do the exact same for groups 4-6. This
will give you velocity crossfading between dynamics.
Then in groups 1,2 3, in the first 'Select by' slot, pick 'Ctrl' and
'1', and in the 'Ctrl Range' slots enter 0-63.
In groups 4,5,6, also set 'Select by' to Ctrl 1, and set the 'Ctrl
Range' to 64-127.
Save the instrument, close the Instrument editor, and in the EXS
interface dial in a non-zero value in the 'Amount' field (left side
of the window, right above the 1st modulation matrix thingy). This
value determines the amount of crossfading.
Now finally deal with the first modulation matrix slot. Make sure
Dest is set to Sample Select, 'via' is empty, and Src is velocity.
Now when the modwheel is between 0 and 63, you'll be playing the
velocity xfaded long samples, and with modwheel between 64 and 127,
you'll play the velocity xfaded tremolo.
I don't know how well this will sound though. In my experience,
velocity xfading natural instruments tends to give a kind of
"doubled" effect in the xfade region, instead of the intended
gradual
fade. And note that the above setup does _not_ provide an xfade
between regular and tremolo samples. It's unfortunately not possible
to have 2 different kinds of crossfades happen simultaneously. Would
be possible with some basic environment patching, but that's a
different story....
