to know if it's good, u can put "0" in the field memory allocation
for
Logic... when u gonna turn it on it will took what it needs... but if u are
using some VST Plugs or strong Fx, try to allocate 60 Mo approx....

Only on Mac. In the edit screen, create a new instrument. Under the Zone
menu, select load multiple samples. Select the batch of samples (AIFFs), go
to the next step and select the "Chromatic" import option. All the
samples
will be auto-pitched and auto-keymapped from C1 on up. Great for drums and
misc sound hits. Not good for creating instruments from key-note kits from
the internet (although I still use this feature since everything is
conveniently bulk dumped into the zone, then I make the keymapping and pitch
adjustments). I've been told by list members that the "Chromatic"
feature is
not available on the PC, but I can't verify that by my personal experience.
Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm aware of the "Load Multiple Samples" feature to create one EXS
sample
that utilizes multiple samples. What I am looking for is a method to create
multiple EXS samples that each consist of one AIFF file all at once instead
of having to create a new instrument manually one at a time.
Thanks!

I see. That, I don't believe, exists. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think
you mean to quickly generate EXS Instruments where a single AIFF sample
spans the entire keyboard, for each instrument. Is this correct or am I
still misunderstanding you? -Jer

Personally, if you've got 300 or 400+ MB of RAM, your system might run
better, but Microsoft warns against this and to be honest the MS memory
manager is pretty agile. Still, the basic principle of what I discussed
holds true on any platform. I don't know if it's worth worrying about in the
case of your PC. Try it and see what happens. Just remember your previous
settings and don't open 10 applications at once. If you exhaust your RAM
capacity, programs will slow down or cease to function, and Windows may
become unstable. Have fun! I doubt it will hurt anything to try it... Jer

Translator will be able to do this in an update released this week. In
Translator, there is a standard mapping feature whenever you translate a
single sound format such as AIFF (.wv, Pulsar samples, and Sound Designer
files are like this too) into a multi-sound format such as EXS. This
feature includes mapping across a keyboard in a single Instrument (like the
EXS Load Multiple Samples) or making an Instrument for every AIFF, which is
what you want, I belive.
I owe everyone a press release for Translator and it's relevancy to the
EXS, which is forthcoming.
As far as a Mac version, keep in mind that it works well with Virtual PC,
and a native Mac version is coming.

hi,
can it be possible to creat a BLANK EXS24 Prg ??
u prepare all the Split one time without any samples & just select after
what u need ;o) it's not the best solution but ....
creat one for Drums, C1,C#1,D1 etc.... & one for full split Instruments,
C1
to C3 (ex...)
after u just have to load a BlankPrepare EXS & Go on....
igor
Jer -
You is absolutely correct. I am going to look into the Translator program
by the Rubber Chicken people. That should take care of what I'd like to do
perfectly. If this will be released this week, then glory, hallelujah, my
prayers have been answered.
Thanks again.

I use this 'chromatic' method all the time for drums, but I have one
question. Is there a way to make the loop box default to UNchecked?
I never want the loop on and whenever I'm building an instrument I
have to go an uncheck the loop box in all the zones manually.
Anyone know of a better way to deal with this?
Thanks.

That's weird. For me its always the "one-shot" (which in everyday
terms
means play-through) that is activated by default and not loop. I hate it.
These parameters should be globally changeable across all samples. One of my
biggest complaints about this feature. My temp work around was to configure
easy keyboard shortcuts (a & z keys) to switch between samples. Then
when
you page down, the mouse is only a quarter-inch away from the next target
check box. It really speeds up dealing with this annoyance. Regardless, a
few minutes replaces days when building keyboards full of drums... Jer

Noble,
You make a good point here. The need to highlight in the arrange page
is annoying whenever you go to edit an ESX Instrument and you have
forgotten to Hilight it. A better way would be for it to become
active whenever you select it in the mixer page.
I don't know how you might get round the drum edit problem tho'.
You mention in your first post that Roland had got the HiHat
polyphony problem sussed - how do they do it?
It is certainly true that ESX is a young application, and has several
shortcomings at present. Its main advantage has to be the
integration. I hope that Emagic get it together to improve it very
quickly now that we have shown faith by buying it.
Well said!

For PC users, the best program for audio-ripping is exact audio copy.
It´s the only program I know of which really ensures to have bit-
exact copies of your audio-cds. Also able to do the whole cd in one
run, of course.
Flo
crap. I'm sorry. I _meant_ One Shot (not loop). didn't mean to
confuse anyone. So there's no way to set this globally either, huh?

the one shot can be disabled globally. Just alt or cntrl click on sample
all will be effected
In the Zone menu I can't find "Load multiple samples".
Nope. I sure hope this is addressed. I hate the fact that it isn't a global
control. Others should be to but "one-shot" is the most important.
I'd
rather it was off by default if they don't offer global change. And, IF
EMAGIC IS LISTENING, for sanity's sake, let me choose the beginning note. It
sucks you can't add to a kit of drums "chromatically" after you've
set up
the instrument, because it will start at C1 in a new group. Glad it works
for the most part, since it's a primary reason I purchased the EXS. I really
needed to boost my kit-building productivity. I can't afford to spend days
building drum kits. Hopefully Emagic will enhance these features and extend
all of them to PC EXS users as well (I hear the "chromatic" import
doesn't
work on the PC). Just venting... oh, well... Jer

Mac 1... PC 0
;o(

Hello all
I asked the same question before, and got an answer from several of you.
Thanks.
It seems that we misunderstood each other, and maybe I haven¹t been too
clear.
Question (again):
Is there a software that will read Audio CDs and write their content as WAV
/ AIFF files on my hard disk (MAC)? I know there is Toast Audio Extract, and
different others, but they just copy the whole tracks. That¹s simple.
But,
for importing the WAV files into EXS24, I need each single SOUND from the CD
extracted as a separate WAV file, not the whole tracks! How else should I
import them into EXS, if not divided. Certainly not manually, or do YOU
spend hours for dividing extracted tracks manually into individual samples?
(hope you don¹t!)
Most audio sample CDs have small pauses (half a second or more) between the
different sounds/samples on the CD that would allow the software (which is
to be found here ;) ) to recognise the individual sounds by just cutting the
pauses and saving the rest as individual files. Shouldn¹t be too
difficult
and should work for all sounds that are somehow consistent, but not for
sounds that contain silence periods within themselves, of course.
Did I discover the last real audio market whole for a developer to fill with
his new product?
I want to make music, not deal with audio CD¹s to rip for hours. Help?
Greetings and sorry for the unclear question last time.
Emanuel
PS: By the way, I hate to see producers to just offer audio CD¹s and no
AKAI/EXS24 version. But this seems to be a sales/financial problem. The more
mainstream, the better the chance for AKAI version. As we all like those
off-stream, independent, garage sounding, all-new samples, we will have to
deal with audio sample CDs.
Passing this on... I know the one-shot solution was already posted, but this
also contains helpful Akai information... Jer

If you are using a PC, it doesn't exist.

Use Toast in conjunction with Peak or something similar. Peak can
auto-select "regions" and export them in bulk. Then they can be
imported
into the EXS. There a several programs which do this sort of thing.

I'm using LAWP so thats the reason.
Do anyone know if that is coming in v4.7?

That's a great idea, and someone came up with that last week to us, and we
are putting it in to the latest version of Translator. It's not Mac yet,
but will be, and will have that feature.
Specifically, many Audio CD's that sport samples contain more than one
sound within a track, due to the 99 track limitation of an audio CD. The
feature does this: you would rip all 99 tracks and put them into one
folder. Translator then can take each track and extract out each
"chunk" of
sound, and place it into an EXS instrument, putting each chunk on one MIDI
note (or you can specify one EXS instrument per chunk). You can specify the
amplitude threshold and the time period that Translator will look for to
extract these chunks.
The only bummer is that Translator can't rip audio CD's yet, but it will.
