Subject: first post - #of audio instruments
Message #6151
Hello all. This is my first post to this list. I'm looking forward to checking out what you all have to say. I have simple question that I'm sure lots of you can answer - I seem to be able to create 16 audio instrument tracks (each running an instance of the exs), but can't figure out how to assign additional tracks to instruments 17 and up. Is there a limit to the number of instruments I can use? Is there something tricky I've overlooked? thanks -morgan

Subject: Sample Editing
Message #6153
Hi there, Since like 4.7 or so I don't seem to be able to edit a sample from the sample edit window as fine of increments as I once could. Some of the samples I haveTranslated from the Kurzweil format have loop points that are finer than I am able to access using the sample edit window. When I try adjusting them the loop point jumps to a larger selection that is un usable. I tried changing view from bar/beats /samples etc.... but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hayes Mem.Tn.

Message #6156
I'm working on a trumpet ensemble project, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good source for trumpet samples--one that goes beyond the normal Bb variety: specifically, one that might include flugelhorn, piccolo trumpet, muted trumpet, etc. Thanks, everyone! Roland

Subject: Please insert disk...
Message #6157
I'm having an annoying problem with my EXS24 that I'm hoping is really easy to fix. Every sample library that I've installed either by a setup file (EXS24 Factory SoundSet) or by moving the instrument and sample files themselves, gives me the following problem. If I select a patch from one of those libraries, my system nags me that there's no disk in the drive and to put one in my CD-ROM drive. I can hit 'cancel' or 'continue' and then the patch loads fine off of the hard drive. Any thoughts on how to get these 'nag' messages to stop popping up? BTW: This is Logic 5.3 Plat on the PC with EXS24. Thanks... -- Natalia __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New DSL Internet Access from SBC & Yahoo! http://sbc.yahoo.com

I LOVE Quantum Leap Brass (http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=QLBS1), but you might find want to also look at the brass and effects Advanced Orchestra (http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=BS-97). A cheaper-but-no-slouch alternative is XSample's Brass cd (http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=BS-244). Good! Steinberg sucks. The Grand still doesn't work in Logic OR on my Powerbook G4 and no update in site. How long have they known about this problem? Also, isn't a gas spending an entire DAY installing the "Virtual Guitar"? When is the last time anybody had to use RESEDIT to install a music program? Steinberg consistently offers VST products that aren't ready, then refuses update support. Great ideas; mediocre implementation. Moon

Glad I sold it. I had to do the RESEDIT trick too. Their site gives you two different futile methods of installation and the RESEDIT trick is buried deep in the site. After a four-hour install, I just about threw up over how simplistic and non-dynamic that instrument (if it can be called that) really is. Any guitar sample kit can do what Virtual Guitarist can, only better. (Sorry everyone, the post above stirred up a lot of painful memories... had to vent.) -Jer

Message #6162
Hi all I can't find any documentation on this, but after you do a find for an instrument, you get a limited pull-down instrument menu that contains the instrument you were looking for, but even reloading the EXS doesn't restore the full Sampler Instruments menu. How do you do that? TIA Regards Brian

I agree completely that Steinberg totally suck on this one, the instrument can never find its samples......it totally sucks. But for the non-guitarist, it can provide a great inspirational pallete when it does work, or a great way to get down that sketch idea. Just check out the new Justin Timberlake track, all virtual guitarist, not rocket science of course.

(the exs gui is driving me crazy...) how do i simply select a range of zones and move them all together up for example one octave in keyrange... standart task for a drumset programming to use the same set up the next oktave with differnt parameters... the "trick" is highly apreciated. thanks, ulf. __________________________________________________________________ Gesendet von Yahoo! not really a trick but a hidden key command (ie - a operation only obtainable by a key or midi trigger)... neway, open keycommands and search for 'move zone', look for and select 'move zones incld root key left' and 'move zones incld root key right' under the kc's for the EXS, then press the learn button and press a key to assign it to. do this for both left and right... now in the exs ed just select ur zone and use the KC u setup to shift em left or right... ----- Original Message ----- From: <uswitalski@...> To: <exs-users@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Saturday, September 28, 2002 9:38 PM Subject: [exs] exs move multiple zones > (the exs gui is driving me crazy...) > > how do i simply select a range of zones and move them all together up for > example one octave in keyrange... > standart task for a drumset programming to use the same set up the next > oktave with differnt parameters... > > the "trick" is highly apreciated. > > thanks, > > ulf. > > __________________________________________________________________ > > Gesendet von Yahoo! I purchased the ESX24 and attempted to install it last night. Here's what happens: I load the installation CD and it asks me to click which version of Logic I have. I don't click them because I have Platinum 5.3.0 (for os9). (Based on the information during installation, it want me to upgrade from 4.0 - 4.5 to 4.5.1. I'm nervous about clicking on of these because I have the most recent version installed.) I begin the installation and it tells me that "no version of Logic Audio is compatible with ESX24". thoughts???? this was also post on the LUG list Thanks in advance. Antcinq@... Tony

The installer installs the base-sounds you get with the EXS. You don't need the installer to get the samples -- they're on the CD, and you can copy them to your samples directory. However, the installer *does* unpack the *.exs files belonging to the samples. Maybe someone can send "antcinq" <antcinq@...> the exs instruments from the EXS-install? Just a few kb... I struggled with this same issue, as did, I believe, you, Hendrik. The issue: could the EXS files perhaps be posted in the files section? I do not know what the problem would be with this approach because such files would only be useful to somebody with a legitimate copy of the EXS program/key. Nevertheless, an official proclamation is needed as you stated months ago because Emagic MIGHT have a problem with such a posting. Bob
