Thoughts from the mind of Bacizone, 28-05-2002: >Sasha is right, it is really easy to reverse even bunch of samples with >shortcuts in the EXS editor, but..reversing a cymbal is not what I am >looking for...;-) it does not sound the same.. as some people do not have >even an hour for creating a nice reversefx...sample CD-s are good for these >purposes! Hey Ita, Oops... if I'd realised that you were the original poster, I would have been a bit kinder :-). Sorry... And of course you're right: there's nothing wrong with taking a shortcut if you're under time-pressure or whatever. However, I suppose you do agree that having all this gear we nowadays have, tends to make people lazy -- not referring to you specifically, but talking in general. "Since we can so easily do X and Y now, how come there's no plugin that does Z also?" Sometimes we're just a bunch of spoilt children... -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.ision.nl/users/h/index.html

The folder "EXSamples" is in the "Sampler Instruments" folder. Tried to refresh menu. Foreign samples appear on the menu. Also tried to place the EXSample folder under "Logic 5 series f" folder, but no luck. Any ideas. Thanks

New (mainly bugfix and performance improvement) 1.1 release of ExsManager. Now there's also an XL build for way larger sample/instruments sets (but it will be a lot slower) www.arcanoise.com/ExsManager/index.htm US users soon will have a new faster server to download from.. details later.. Andrea

It would play to the end of the song file and then all hell would break and the rest of the guys would go into adlib, what's next? How long does it take you to reboot that thing matt!!??? I'd not have thought this would cause anything but a 'hard drive too dslow message'. 5.1.2 and .3 have not been ultra stable here either. I am using RME multiface on DP533. It is sweet when it is running, but I am getting stuck notes when jumping around the arrange page in an edit frenzy and the occasional desssthpicable (daffy) crash/ lock up at times I cannot isolate!! I believe you use TDM, so this may introduce / reduce a whole new set of disasters. Andrea, you are a genius! I had almost 20,000 instruments in my Sampler instruments folder associated to more than 76,000 samples. I had to use The XL version because of this Since I keep all the wave files on my separate drive the sampler was taking forever to find them while trying to associate them to an instrument. And I also got rid of 4 Gigs of superfluous wave files(!) One important note, while the program is in the first phase which analysing the instruments and samples, parsing them and associating them, I could not even go into Windows Explorer as EXS Manager stopped responding. In the second phase, in which the program updates your sampler instruments, I had no trouble multi-tasking. This a truely a God-send for users with a lot of instruments in their Sampler Instruments folder.

open up the EXS24, go to options>virtual memory tells you when its streaming, and lets you turn it off. Watch out though, for me it seems the VSM makes it unstable in low memory situations. Its the only cause of crashes in v5.1.3 that ive had. But it does let me have a reasonable amount of samples on my 256MB powerbook.... ahh well, hopefully theyll fix it soon. Tom

That's because your PC was swapping out a lot of memory... if you see ExsManager becoming "not responding", you simply have to let it run..... after a while it will refresh the window again, and will anyway continue to work correctly. Nothing that i can do about it sorry.... Andrea

Subject: [EXS]Improvement-suggestion
Message #4614
Hello group! I would like to make a suggestion regarding the 'Via'-knobs on the EXS-page. I mean these cut-into-half buttons for adjustments regarding Velocity/Wheel assignments. Wouldn't it be good, to swap these half-buttons by ie. right-Mouseclick? One half would be labeled 'zero' and the other '127'. By need, you can change the affect-direction of your assignment, so there would be a pretty huge amount of new possible parameter-combinations! Regards, Tim Dylla PS.: I've heard several times about an EXS24 online-help. I go with exs since beginning, but I've never seen any online-documentation. They work hard, and are aggressive programmers, but often overly optimistic about their timelines. It'll be worth the wait, but I agree that it's an inconvenience when you are banking on something. I generally add 3 days to a week to any given time commitment. Sorry Garth, but I had to respond to this one. I love what you do; however, this guy has a point. ;-)

This isn't the complete story. (I know this is somewhat off-topic, but it nags (pardon the pun) me when something like this happens, as you'll see...) First, his credit card declined - we had to take time out to contact him of that. We also told him that we couldn't e-mail anything to a hotmail account. He replied and said he'd put more $$ in and gave us another e-mail address. This happened in effect for us on Tuesday (three days ago). Last weekend was a 3-day weekend and we were swamped (lot's of orders) for the rest of the week, and were unable to get back to him. We e-mailed his copy late because we had to go back into the records and change the e-mail address. Anytime you have to adjust things manually it can be problematic. We would have liked to deal with the changes faster, and be real responsive, but this wasn't a case where we could do it very easily. But even so, the program was in effect 24 hours late - we apologize for that. So don't believe everything people write - there's usually more to the story. Garth Hjelte Sampler User

Subject: LAPM: No "explorer-type" EXS Inst. list?
Message #4625
We just got a Mac and upgraded to LAPM 5.0, and I noticed that the listing of EXS Instruments is like it was in our PC version when the EXS first came out - one long list of EXS instruments, no sub-folder setup seems to be available. Where or how do I get the Windows "Explorer" type folder setup that was incoporated into the PC version at about v.4.6? It's very tedious to have to scroll down a long list of EXS instruemtns instead of being able to organize them (as I did in the PC version) into sub folders, etc. Help. Thanks, David Benus
