I've just been slicing up those (Alto Flute) and haven't foud any obvious digital bursts or spikes so far. After reading your post I did a quick visual inspection and couldn't see anything either. Perhaps it's something to do with the way Windows is reading those aiff files. I did find substantial DC-offset on all of them though. It looks like the 'ambience' which separates the notes is just low-level noise which has been put in there, after the fact, and I think thats where the DC-offset may have come from. There is a distinct step at the beginning and end of each note, which looks very similar in all cases. [I don't think it's just the fact they are all from the same instrument.] Dave Eager
