Don't select an audio track. What version of Logic are you running? Is it
Mac or PC? You should have an audio instrument track available for
selection. You may have done this, but I couldn't tell exactly what you
meant by "changing an audio track in instrument". That statement
doesn't
make much sense to me. There are dedicated tracks made specifically for VST
instruments which are completely different from audio tracks (this method is
completely different from ReWire which imploys tweaked audio tracks to allow
external soft-synths to play through the Logic mixer). The dedicated VST
instruments should pop up on the default "new song" setup in both
the
arrange window (usually two of them by default) and in the environment (all
sixteen). Trying do this in an existing song may not work, especially if you
are on a Mac using OMS. This issue gets complicated so I won't go into it.
Just make sure that you are using a new song environment, that you are
running Logic 4.5 (at least / 4.3 is the minimum), and that you are
selecting a real "instrument track". Also, go into the environment
window
the channel strip of the appropriate "instrument channel" (there
should be
sixteen of these). Make sure the output on the channel strip is pointing to
the main outs (or to a bus is you are doing a submix like with drums for
instance. If you do this make sure the bus is then pointing to the main
outs). By clicking at the top of the channel strip, you can also control
input allocation on the left/bottom side of the window.
If you are on a Mac, your OMS or FreeMIDI could be screwed up, but I doubt
that's causing the problem since this is an internal VST instrument.
If this doesn't help, you'd better contact Logic.
