This is only true for WinME and up. With 98 it only works if you mark a file or a bunch of them directly. I installed a little tool called "DelAttrib QuickHack" which allows to reset all attributes for a complete folder under 98 too. Could look for the link or post it if anybody wants it. Apart from that, whenever I'm transferring files on CDs I usually zip or rar them up, so when unzipping/raring them they won't be write protected any longer (using rar audiofiles even get compressed to almost 50%, another nice thing).
