I use battery because it has individual amp envelopes for each drum. The
exs24 has group amp envelope and filtering but it is wack, the filter can't
be used on individiual zones because it only goes 50%, and the amp envelopes
I never figured out how to use like on an akai sampler where you can easily
tune each samples amp envelope. Batteries amp envelope also has a hold
parameter on the amp envelope so you can let the punch through then decay
starts. It has a modulation matrix for making your drums respond to
different controller dynamically eg velocity to pitch envelope amount, huge
range of possibilities are offered. The pitch envelope of course. Solo and
mute of drum cells.
HERES A BIG REASON, probably my number one reason for using it. You can go
through all your different, say kickdrums while the beat is playing so you
can audition different drums in context! NIIICE.
It's designed for drums, there's heaps of other reasons but I can't list
them all. The exs24 is frustrating for drums, I never did figure out the amp
envelope and I'm a veteran so to speak.
If you are an obsessed drum sound collector and drum programming enthusiast
I recommend setting up a Battery kit with all you drum types and make a
mapped instrument with named keys like Kickdrum, Snare, Open Hihat etc then
use this for your drum programming template. Then you can swap in context
for different kickdrums, snares etc.
Battery is cool for drums.
