Subject: Real Time Effects
Message #1288
I have an idea and I don't know if it's good or bad, but maybe you guys can shed some light. It's a little more off topic than I would normally post here, but I am apologizing in advance. I own a MOTU Firewire 828 and I'm considering a MOTU 24i PCI which would give me 32 analog inputs. Can I just plug my outboard gear directly into these two modules, assign the various inputs to channels on the Logic mixer, and take advantage of Logic's real time effects? I can assign all the inputs to output L&R Monitor on the Firewire 828. My biggest concern is how much strain this puts on the CPU. For reverb and delay I assume it's wise to use AUX SENDS. But using compressors on inserts would be sweet. But if I press a note on my synth and it has to go through the MOTU -> COMPUTER -> BACK OUT THE MOTU, will there be major latency? I have a Powermac G4/450 with 1GB ram. Thanks for listening.. Regards, Mark
